Best RV Parks & Resorts near Vineyard Haven, MA

Of all the Thousand Trails campgrounds in the Northeast this one isn’t too bad. It’s a huge park with mostly seasonal/annual campers. (Campground is not open all year, though). Gated Section A is right near the entrance and this is where most of the transient sites are. They are first come first serve. When I got here in the rain, the staff at check in was very nice. Driving around picking my site, the roads were extremely uneven and the rain had created huge lakes in the middle of the road as well as on the sites themselves. I only stayed two nights. Cell reception was not good, neither with AT&T nor Verizon. They have Wifi at the park which I haven’t tried. I believe - although- I’m not sure that you have to pay for it and I wasn’t up for that. I wouldn’t choose this campground unless you have a Thousand Trails membership like me and want to save money.

Having a Thousand Trails membership I tried every single campground that’s included in the Northeast and this is the nicest one. It’s really quiet (which I appreciate immensely) with the exception of daily leaf blowers. The upside of that annoying noise is of course that the campground looks organized and clean. There is a huge area of walking and bike paths adjacent to the campground (enter next to the blue bathhouse on A road.) the woman at the check in was very nice and helpful. That being said it is still more of a mobile home park, just like all the other TT campgrounds. I was here early in the season (May) and again late in the season (October). Not sure how crazy it gets in July and August. I was pleasantly surprised that they put brand new picnic tables on all the transient sites. Big improvement! AT&T hotspot worked well even for zoom calls. Verizon on my phone a bit weak. Camp link Wifi costs extra but actually works well! So it’s worth the cost, if you don’t have any other options.

Weve been camping here over decade. The state "improved" it into a antiseptic RV Resort. Formerly campsites had small semicircular drive for in/out any camp vehicle. This allowed open area where screen room, camp chairs and games could be spread out. Many backed up to dunes or the ocean.

There are now 40 foot asphalt driveways diagonal through the former grassy play areas. These leave a narrow space up to the next wide asphalt driveway. Perfect view of the next RV.

Asphalt absorbs 90 percent sun heat. A 100 degree day will have asphalt surface temperature 160 degrees.

The former open dunes down to the beach are cordoned off by large wood post fence and backed by snow fencing.

This was not designed by anyone who camps. The Secretary of Interior should bring the people responsible in August and have them walk throughout barefoot. Then employ someone to restore this once great campground.

Found this campground last minute on way down road. We have a 40' 5th wheel (big rig) with 4 slide outs. Would have prob been in a Walmart parking lot, IF the mngr, Karen, wasn't so AWESOME!!! I called after hours to Sun RV Resorts corporate office. They got ahold of this great campground mngr, who called me back within a hour or so, while we were still on I-95. She happily agreed to let us head on in well after dark at almost 10pm. Came over, from her nearby home, to welcome us at gate with a super friendly, upbeat smile and a gift kit for our pup. Made us feel so WELCOME! Led us, via her car, to our open, pull-thru spot & said coffee would be on at 8am. She was so accommodating to our needs & multiple schedule changes. We wound up staying another night. She was like a cheerleader for us to have a great time. THANK YOU SO MUCH KAREN...you're the best! She made our experience here what it was...terrific! It must be noted, that this is an extremely large, full, town-like campground, packed full of mostly permanent seasonals, or full time occupant spaces. I do imagine that at high season, it is prob an absolute zoo, with noise & kids everywhere. We were there in late October (during COVID), so very quiet. Located in nice area, directly across road from beach on Nantucket Sound.

We booked online having never been here before, our mistake. The site we chose is very uneven so leveling the RV wasn't real easy. Our fifth wheel front jacks are on the ground and two of the four wheels are off the ground. This seems to be common among the first part of the campground some sites are fairly level but not most of them. Now the back half of the campground has 50@ full hookups with much longer and level sites. My advice is to book the back section if you're a big Class A with a toad, or a long fifth wheel. Sites in the back seem to have more room to them. Water pressure was @ 50 psi.

Lots of nearby beaches and restaurants. Campsites are simple. A patch of grass with a small bush or two, not very much shade, space or privacy. Tent sites do not have water or electricity but bathhouse is in easy walking range. A nice place to ride a bike around so definitely bring your bike. More of an RV park. RVs do have hookups. Bathrooms and showers are clean. $1.50 in quarters for a 6 min hot shower. Which is nice after a long day at the beach. Playground and courts on the premises and walking paths and an area that accesses the water if your wanted to throw a kayak in. It's a nice place for the location. But not much privacy really, and not much shade, but that will vary from site to site. It's nice because there is so much to do nearby and kept very clean. Our site ended up being right next to the bathhouse so there wasn't too much privacy there. I'd come back again though. And I would definitely come back in an RV instead of I could.

Dump station located at Newport RV Park 5 minutes up the road for $20 charge. NEX MiniMart close with NEX an Commissary located 5 miles at NAVSTA Newport.

I read the reviews and was excited to be in a state park near the water for such a reasonable price. Imagine my surprise when we found out that a water/electric site for an out of state camper was $45 per night! This was our first visit to a Rhode Island State Park so not sure if they are all like this but this one definitely caters to Rhode Island residents who camp in large RVs! The sites with the best views are the full hookups (water/electric/sewer) and the rates for out of state campers are significantly more than for residents. I’m used to paying $5 or even $10 more for being from out of state but here the fee is double or more for out-of-state campers. Geez– way to make us feel welcome! 

There are four areas, and each has advantages and disadvantages. Area One has the best views and full hookups but there is no bathhouse; Area Two also has full hookups, no view and some of the sites (55-65) are decidedly not level; Area Three is for tents only with no hookups but is close to the bathhouse; Area Four has water and electric hookups, the pads are not paved (as in the others) but most of the sites have more separation than in the other sections. See the photo below to understand the different areas. 

No matter where you camp, there are noise issues. Road noise continued throughout the night and there is a wind turbine on the property. I’ve never been this close to one and yes, there is noise, although the road noise bothered me more. Alcohol is prohibited throughout the campground. There are pay showers available. There are the remains of two bunkers but other than walking by them, you cannot go inside. One (in Area One) is a grassy knoll with stairs to a lookout. 

On the plus side: The bathrooms were clean, there is excellent cell service, Judith Point lighthouse is nearby, it is close to the ferry to Block Island, and there are numerous recreation options available (playground, tennis courts, volleyball net, and basketball courts). Also, the grouchy staffer I read about in reviews was not there the night we arrived and, in fact, the two staffers were very friendly and even recommended a good restaurant in the nearby town.

I prefer camps in a nature setting and this is not that. It is very much an RV park - but it is well taken care of. I’d go so far as to call it manicured.

Everything was clean. The spots were generously sized. Not private, but not cramped at all.

Facilities were clean. Close drive to several beaches. Surrounded by town amenities but you don’t feel like you are in town.

Super friendly people.

Makes for a nice base of operations for the area.

Nice level site. Big pull through. Fireplace and picnic table are in good shape. Electric and water work. Bathrooms are spotless. Well... Not anymore 😂

This was a very nice campground. Our particular site was a little on the small side, without much greenery to separate from the other sites but the weather was horrible so we spent most of our time inside playing games anyway. The restrooms and showers were very clean! The people who run this spot are nothing but friendly and helpful. There was a short but very nice nature trail within the grounds. There are also full hookups for those with RVs. The tent sites looked very nice and more private, but not sure about hookups in those spots.

There are many things to do close by- a lot of bay side beaches, coffee shops and a wonderful bike trail. Nickerson is right down the street as well which opens up a lot of recreation options.

Would totally recommend and would stay here again.

Scusset is a very popular beach and campground in the summer. It's located close to the Sagamore Bridge on the mainland side. Traffic can be messy in the summer, especially on weekend days!

The campground itself is a haven for RVs. There are 5 "wooded" tent sites, where campers are allowed to have tents as well as a fire on the site. All other sites are located in a wide open area and are best suited for motor homes and trailers. Note, only the tent sites are allowed to have fires, all other sites you must do your cooking on a stove, and no fires are allowed. There is a communal fireplace near the entrance of the campground where everyone gathers at dusk to share a nice big fire.

Most sites have a paved driveway for your camper and space for a small car, and there is an overflow parking lot if needed. Flush toilets, sinks and showers are available in the main bathroom building and are cleaned on a regular basis. During beach season there is another restroom down by the beach with outdoor showers to get off all the sand! Sometimes the refreshments stand is open.

The beach is big, open and beautiful with lots of shells to hunt and marine life to check out. At the edge of the beach is the beginning of the Cape Cod Canal, and its walking/bike path. Along the canal are inlets to let you back into the campground.

In the morning you'll see lots of folks fishing, watch for old line/hooks.

Because the camp has so few trees, the winds can be gnarly. On the flip side, the lack of trees gives you a great spot to stargaze, especially if you focus your view out over the ocean, away from the lights of the mainland.

Loved the proximity to the beach. Convenient drive to Provincetown. Great spot. Unfortunately didn’t have full hookup as we had requested.

We come back to Fishermans twice a year. We love the pull thrus and the full hookups. The campsite is always clean and there is so much to do in the area.

When you are sitting by the campfire, sometimes, chilling with a beer or another adult beverage is nice. Not in Massachusetts State Parks. No alcohol allowed. Too bad. The place has nice level sites and close to the Cape.

We like it here  even though it's not our usual kind of campground. It has drivethu sites and full hookups. We usually dry camp. Lots of healthy grass at the sites. Flat spot for our drop camper. Clean bathrooms also.

Pay $300-$500/night for a hotel or this campground for $35/night? I’ll take the campground any day. Several years now I’ve packed a suitcase w a tent, tarp, air mattress and sleeping bag and had some of the best weeks of my life! The bus picks up and drops off just outside the campground and with a weekly bus pass you can be anywhere on the island within minutes. Every day was a new adventure to Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, Menemsha etc. Large shared male and female bathroom/shower complex next to the camp store and office as well as an outdoor shower for those more adventurous. Most sites have electric and water nearby. The management/owner takes pride in the campground and loves what he does. It’s the best way to experience Martha’s Vineyard!
