Campgrounds near Edgewood, Maryland provide a mix of established camping areas within an hour's drive of the city. Elk Neck State Park Campground and Susquehanna State Park Campground offer tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin accommodations approximately 20-30 miles from Edgewood. Several mixed-use campgrounds in the region feature electric hookups, water access, and fire rings, with most sites accommodating both tent and RV camping. The area's campgrounds typically operate seasonally, with many open from spring through fall, though some like Elk Neck State Park remain open year-round.

Road conditions and campground accessibility vary throughout the region, with most established sites offering drive-in access. Many campgrounds require advance reservations, particularly during summer weekends when waterfront sites fill quickly. "The campground is well-wooded, offering reasonable privacy given the space constraints," noted one visitor about Elk Neck State Park. Weather considerations affect camping experiences, with several reviewers mentioning rain impacts on site conditions. Patapsco Valley State Park campers reported that "when it rains it really flushes through the grounds" and sites on lower ground can become very wet. Most campgrounds in the area feature bathhouses with showers, though quality and cleanliness vary by location.

Campers consistently highlight water access as a significant draw to the region's campgrounds. Tuckahoe State Park receives praise for kayaking opportunities, while Susquehanna State Park offers proximity to both the Susquehanna River and Deer Creek for fishing and tubing. According to feedback on The Dyrt, "There is an electric loop with electric hookup, but no water or sewer. Those can be found at the campground entrance. Each loop has a wood shed and clean, well-appointed bathhouse." Hiking trails connect many campgrounds to surrounding natural areas, with Patapsco Valley State Park featuring 70 miles of multi-use trails. Sites with more privacy and shade tend to receive higher ratings, though several reviewers noted that weekend camping can bring higher noise levels, especially at campgrounds closer to urban areas.

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

      Country Acres Campground

      Excellent But.

The campground is in excellent condition. The facilities are top notch. The excellence and care of the campground is evident. The 4 stars is only due to the road noise and many of the sites are on top of each other. You feel like your neighbor is at your camp fire.

      Redemption Springs

      Pleasant Stay and Hosts

We stayed at Redemption Springs to get relatively close to Baltimore without bringing our 30ft travel trailer into the city. Seth and the other gentlemen I spoke with were all extremely accommodating. Enjoyed learning about their approach to restorative farming and purchasing a variety of treats at the farm store. Beef, pork, chicken, seasonings, baked goods, and more. We booked on Hipcamp and recommend following his driving instructions. Our rig fit fine by tuhe main barn and they kept an eye on us going in and out to make sure we didn't have issues making any of the turns. Lots of farm life!

      Annapolis MWR Academy RV/Campground

      Great spot for Retirees/Active

If you want to be near Annapolis, right on the Severn River...this is it. About 15 RV spots nestled in the woods...with full hook ups. A couple of primitive spots as well. Just a quick 5 min walk to the river...right across from the Academy. NEX, gas within 10 min walk, and 15 min drive to downtown Annapolis. Staff is always great here, and the park is clean....for a park on the woods.

      Campsites at Watkins Regional Park

Excellent choice for a Washington visit or local getaway

Based on my stay 3 nights and what I read of Greenbelt Park (the other closeby to Washington campground) I would say this has to be much better and I will stay here again on a future visit. Campground sits inside of a much larger park with great trails, amenities and well maintained. Campground is quiet, lots of trees, forest and yet each space is very large with good spacing and privacy to adjacent sites. High tree canopy at your site so lots of room to spread out. Sites themselves are a little rustic - a mix of grass, gravel and dirt, but not muddy (it rained a good bit prior to my stay) - but in good condition. Shower/toilet block is clean and good hot water and good water pressure. Most sites are flat or near flat and the ones that aren't need minimal levelling blocks. Campground apparently is never full and there was only 1 other when I was there - really hard to believe. There is a neighborhood road up by the sites near the shower block but it is low speed and lightly travelled and I had no disturbance from it. Nice surrounding neighborhood. No signs of vagrants. Park police patrolled multiple times per day and report very little non-camper entry to ther facilities. I felt very safe.Easy access to Eashington - bus stop outside the campground to metro or just drive to the metro (free parking weekend, $6 midweek) and then train (about 8 per hour) into the sites - an hour or less total to get there. For more local people, this seems like a good escape "to the woods" without travelling forever.

      Lums Pond campground

First time at this campground really like it a lot will be returning. The bathrooms are always clean. The grounds are always kept up. Just a really nice place to stay. Most of the sites have some kind of shade.

      Birchview Campground

Quiet Getaway close to home for us

Mary & her crew run a great campground. Full hookup. Slow schedule during the week-camp store & pool mainly. Saturdays always have activities planned from bingo to quarter auctions, picnics & music. Each Saturday is different. Clean grounds. Nice playgrounds. Kiddie pool & nice size pool from 3-5’ deep. 2 cabins also available.

    Guide to Edgewood

Camping near Edgewood, Maryland offers accessible outdoor experiences within the Chesapeake Bay watershed, where elevations generally stay below 500 feet across gently rolling terrain. The camping season typically runs strongest from April through October, with July and August bringing humid conditions that average 85-90°F during peak daylight hours. Most sites require reservations 6-9 months in advance for summer weekends.

    What to do

Kayaking access points: Multiple launch areas provide entry to the region's waterways. At Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina, campers enjoy direct water access from their sites. "You are right on the waters edge. Some sites you are right on the waters edge," notes one visitor who brought kayaks and found "the water wasn't but a few steps away."

Hiking to historical sites: The area features trails connecting to preserved landmarks. Susquehanna State Park Campground includes access to a working grist mill and historic buildings. "There is a historic area in the park, with a working grist mill, mansion and other little buildings to view," reports a camper who enjoyed the river views from this location.

Mountain biking trails: Networks of unpaved paths cater to off-road cyclists. Patapsco Valley State Park-Hollofield Area provides access to over 70 miles of multi-use trails. One visitor noted, "We enjoyed hiking the trails directly from our campsite that led us down to the Patapsco River. There is a lot of history associated with the River and the area."

    What campers like

Clean bathroom facilities: Many campgrounds near Edgewood maintain well-kept sanitation areas. At Lums Pond State Park Campground, "The bath house was absolutely immaculate, and the design made even my public-bathroom-phobic sister-in-law comfortable and at ease," according to one reviewer. The individual shower rooms receive particular praise.

Natural play areas: Several parks incorporate natural elements into children's recreation spaces. One camper at Patapsco Valley noted, "There is a 'natural' playground in the loop... aka, large rocks and overturned trees. The kids loved it." These features provide alternatives to traditional playgrounds.

Water-based recreation: Fishing opportunities exist throughout the region. A visitor to Elk Neck State Park Campground remarked, "There are views of the Elk River from many sites," while another mentioned, "We saw bald eagles and great blue heron." The proximity to water attracts wildlife viewers and anglers alike.

    What you should know

Site conditions after rain: Several campgrounds experience drainage issues during wet weather. One camper at Patapsco Valley State Park noted, "When it rains it really flushes through the grounds. We had a site on the lower end of the loop and our site was hard to set up as we arrived during a storm and it was very wet even after the rain died down."

Firewood restrictions: Most parks prohibit bringing outside firewood due to invasive species concerns. A camper at Merry Meadows Recreation Farm mentioned, "We bought their firewood for $5/crate and it was really wet. It was challenging to get a fire going, which was frustrating."

Seasonal closures: Operating schedules vary across facilities. Susquehanna State Park Campground operates from March 31 to October 29, while others like Elk Neck remain open year-round. One visitor to Bar Harbor RV Park noted, "Weekend was cold but the park was pretty full. This is close to us so it was an easy trip. Full hookup but we're told to turn off and unhook water the night it dropped below freezing."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: When selecting sites, consider distance to play areas. A camper at Lums Pond State Park Campground commented, "Our daughter really enjoyed the playground (which was excellent, by my standards)," while another advised, "The playground was fantastic, though, it was not shaded."

Nature centers: Educational facilities enhance children's experiences. A visitor to Susquehanna State Park noted, "This was our first visit to Susquehanna State Park. It was a popular weekend in mid-september, and there were limited sites available," but appreciated the additional educational opportunities available.

Noise considerations: Sound levels vary throughout campgrounds. One visitor to Elk Neck State Park reported, "No cell signal in the campground so the family is forced to disconnect. I absolutely love it!" This demonstrates how some sites provide better technology breaks than others.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup configurations: Utility placement varies between campgrounds. At Susquehanna State Park, "There is an electric loop with electric hookup, but no water or sewer. Those can be found at the campground entrance."

Site leveling requirements: Terrain affects setup difficulty. An RVer at Elk Neck State Park Campground noted, "Our site was a level full hook up. The road on the FHU loop is narrow and hilly. Out site was uphill and at a difficult angle. Plenty of bigger TTs and 5th wheels were camping."

Off-season advantages: Winter camping offers unique benefits. A visitor to Lums Pond State Park Campground in February reported, "About 1/4 of the sites were occupied. It was very quiet. The sites are large and well spaced. Many are in full sun. The bathroom facilities and laundry are clean and modern."
