Evergreen Point Village in Frederick provides basic RV accommodations with full hookups, water, electric, and sewer on gravel sites. Cherry Hill Park offers more extensive amenities with 50-amp service, full hookups on level pull-through sites with paver patios, and proximity to Washington DC. "Sites look to be semi-private in a lot of pictures but that isn't the case. We had a full hookup with our 15ft travel trailer. Pretty tight even with my Tacoma," noted one camper about the Gettysburg KOA. Brunswick Family Campground features both 30 and 50-amp electric service, water and sewer connections, with sites that can accommodate larger motorhomes and provides access to the Potomac River.

Several RV parks in the region maintain seasonal operations, with many closing between late October and early April. Big rig owners should contact campgrounds directly about site leveling, as one visitor reported: "Our Pull-thru FHU Patio site had a serious slope. It was impossible to level my 45' motorhome without elevating the front wheels dangerously in the air." Cell service varies significantly across campgrounds, with Verizon showing better coverage than other carriers in most locations. Dump stations are available at all full-service RV parks, though Brunswick and Harpers Ferry also offer on-site pump-out service for longer stays. Narrow access roads around Harpers Ferry may present challenges for larger motorhomes, particularly during peak visitor periods when parking and maneuvering space becomes limited. RV campers planning extended stays near Braddock Heights should verify campground availability in advance, as sites with full hookups and pull-through access fill quickly on weekends.

      Artillery Ridge Campground

Great campsite. Fire pit, picnic table, swimming pool ( not open), miniature golf course, laundromat, bathrooms, showers, dump station, gathering areas for groups, playground, and even a horse area and stalls for horses. Dog friendly. Staff was very helpful and curious.

Greenbelt Park Campground — Greenbelt Park

Close to washington as we could get. Could also park our skoolie bus which was nice and had plenty of close by shower with bathrooms. Keep in mind only one shower per restroom house. We stayed at a pretty slow season so it wasn’t bad. Would recommend if visiting DC! They also have a dump station and water fill up.

      Codorus State Park Campground

      Hurricane camping

You just can't beat a pennsylvania park. This one is not an exception. Nice clean restroom, plenty of room. Now, what cost a star. Yes, it rained like hell. When we broke camp and go dump. The dump station was overflowing with sewer. Go to the guard shack to tell them, and find another site. None there. Can I go to an unused full hookup to dump? No! I would have to pay for the site. Two hours later, we found a place to dump for $10.

      The Cove Campground

      Excellent Campground

Was looking for a last-minute getaway on a busy weekend, and they seemed the best option.  I've always associated private campgrounds with crowding and sites on top of each other.  I couldn't have been more wrong about The Cove.  There is more wooded space between sites than in many National Parks.

Some sections are best accessed via 4WD, which I think is a great way to keep things from getting too crowded.

Such a huge diversity of types of sites, from lakeside to wooded, to open fields.  They have something for everyone.

The bathrooms are ok.  Other than the shower area and the reception, most toilets are pit toilets.  If you want to be walking distance to showers, make sure to book sites near them.  For most sites, it's going to be a hike or a drive.

And on top of that, they have a beach for the kids, boat rentals, and a range.

This was our first visit, but we will definitely be coming back.

      Hosack Run

Quiet & Dog friendly - 20minutes from Gettysburg Battfields

This pet friendly campground in Caledonia State Park is .8 miles from the larger Chinquapin campground (no pets), ranger station and swimming pool. Our site #171 was level, paved, full hook ups and next to modern clean bathrooms with flush toilets, warm showers and outside dish washing sinks. Many available sites with and without services on a Sunday in October. There were a good number of friendly, tidy, long term campers with large wall tents. (They allow 21 day stays after Labor Day)

      Bull Run Regional Park

Site #133 — Great site once you figure out the best way to get into it

We stayed in site #133 with our 34'10" travel trailer/toy hauler. Overall, we really like the site. It's spacious, fairly level, heavily wooded, and feels surprisingly private. There's plenty of room around the camper, and although there are other campsites and cabins nearby, the trees provide a lot of separation. We had a nice large area for our chairs, fire pit, picnic table, and dogs. The biggest thing to know about #133 is the approach. We were instructed to pass the site, go around the loop, and then make a left turn into it. With our nearly 35' trailer, that would have required an extremely tight, almost 90-degree turn between the trees, and we did not feel we could safely make it. There is actually visible damage on one of the trees at the entrance, so it appears others may have had difficulty with the turn as well. Instead, we approached from the opposite direction and positioned the camper with our doors facing the main campsite area. That put the water and electric hookups on the opposite side, but our hoses and cord were long enough to run underneath the camper and reach without a problem. Once we figured that out, the site worked very well for us. I initially thought we probably wouldn't choose #133 again because of the awkward setup, but after spending the weekend here, I would. Now that we know how to approach and position our trailer, it really is a nice site. If you're bringing a longer travel trailer, just be prepared to do a little maneuvering and make sure your water hose and electrical cord have enough length if you decide to orient your camper the way we did.

Fifteen Mile Campground — Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park

      Safe, clean, and beautiful!

The campground is a nice size with enough space between sites to feel as though you have some privacy.

We reserved site 4 online but someone had set up there when we arrived. Site 6 was open and it had a better view anyway and was farther away from the toilets, so we didn’t mind.

The boat launch is right there which we planned to paddle board in the morning, but got rained out. The river looks really nice and clean though.

Tables and fire pits are a great size. We saw some gorgeous stars as there isn’t any light pollution.

It’s only half hour from Berkeley Springs, so fill up your spring water for free there and then come enjoy the campsite!

      Will definitely return.

    Guide to Braddock Heights

Camping opportunities near Braddock Heights, Maryland span a diverse region between the Potomac River and Catoctin Mountain at elevations ranging from 300 to 1,900 feet. The area receives average annual rainfall of 43.5 inches with summer temperatures typically reaching 85-90°F. Most campgrounds in the region stay open from April through October, though several remain operational year-round with limited winter amenities.

    What to do

Historical exploration: Visit Gettysburg National Military Park while camping at Gettysburg Campground, located just minutes from the battlefield. "A nice site/area for base camping in the fall," notes one camper who found it ideal for accessing downtown Gettysburg attractions and battlefield access points.

Water activities: Enjoy river access at Harpers Ferry Campground, where sites are positioned directly along the Potomac River. "It's lovely to have a site right on the water. I recommend bringing a float and spending your day relaxing out on the water," suggests one visitor who appreciated the riverside setting despite train noise.

Farm interaction: Feed animals at Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm, which offers a unique agricultural camping experience. "We've enjoyed mini-golf, feeding the animals, 'hiking' through the cornfield, fishing, and campfires," reports a camper who visited during COVID restrictions when many activities were limited.

    What campers like

Riverfront views: Potomac River access at Brunswick Family Campground offers water recreation options. "The Shanandoah is just as beautiful. This campground is so quaint and carefree you almost forget the outside world," wrote one repeat visitor who made multiple trips within two weeks.

Convenience to attractions: Most campgrounds in the region provide easy access to historical sites. "It's literally like a mile from downtown Gettysburg, which also has a lot of different things to do," noted a camper at Drummer Boy Camping Resort who appreciated the proximity to attractions.

Family amenities: Swimming pools and recreation facilities keep children entertained. "There is a swimming pool, ball courts, fishing pond, mini golf (which was in pretty sad shape), and more. They have themed weekend events, live music, bingo, golf cart parades, and potluck," observed one visitor to Bull Run Regional Park, though they felt the $80 nightly rate was steep.

    What you should know

Train noise: Several campgrounds near Braddock Heights experience railroad disruptions. "The trains that come through here almost hourly range from quick commuter MARC or Amtrak trains to long freight trains. The proximity to the tracks means that if the sound doesn't wake you up, the rumbling ground will. Every hour through the night," warns a camper at Harpers Ferry Campground.

Seasonal operations: Check operating dates when planning RV camping near Braddock Heights, Maryland. "The park is so large (over 95 acres) that if you are camping with friends make sure you get sites nearby them or else you will need to drive to their site," noted one visitor about Drummer Boy Camping Resort, which operates from April 1 to October 31.

Bathroom conditions: Facility cleanliness varies significantly between campgrounds. "The bathrooms could use some upgrading for the money that place probably takes in each season. The bathhouses could definitely use some upgrading," reported a visitor who otherwise enjoyed their stay at Drummer Boy.

    Tips for camping with families

Activity scheduling: Plan for organized events at campgrounds offering family programming. "They had a yard sale, vendor sale, golf cart parade, as well as other activities going on. The campground offers free mini golf, a pool and a splash pad pool area," reported a visitor to Drummer Boy Camping Resort during Memorial Day weekend.

Animal encounters: Children particularly enjoy campgrounds with farm animals. "We came with 3 kids. They LOVED the animals and we fed them at the allotted time every morning and went to visit at other times," noted a family at Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm, though they found limited activities beyond the animal interactions.

Playground access: Check playground availability before booking with children. "Only drawback is that there's only one playground that's awkwardly located," mentioned a visitor to Bull Run Regional Park who otherwise gave the campground five stars, particularly praising the shower facilities.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Many RV sites in the region require leveling blocks. "My site had a slight slope, but was easily overcome using additional blocks on the low side to get the trailer level," reported an RVer at Bull Run Regional Park.

Sewer hookup placement: Check hookup locations when reserving RV sites. "The biggest complaint about our site was that the sewer hookup was inconveniently placed about six inches above the ground which meant that it would not drain properly (even with a slinky placed under it)," noted a camper at Round Top Campground.

Alternative parking options: For RV travelers seeking a basic overnight spot, consider commercial alternatives. "This is a mobile home neighborhood, apparently with some new spots available for travelers — not an RV park. The location is awesome if you just need somewhere to park for a few nights while you go do stuff all day in the Frederick area," explained a local reviewer about Evergreen Point Village.
