  Ruby Mountain Campground — Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area

  Well maintained and close to BV

  My family stayed here last summer and we’re not disappointed. The lack of shade (upper spaces) and not a lot of choices for big-rigs are the only downsides here. Here are the positives:

  • Great access to the Arkansas River (fishing, put-in/ - take/out access)
  • Very well-maintained spaces and clean bathrooms
  • Minutes from rafting outfitters (we always go through Noah’s Ark. Great customer service and experienced guides)
  • Close to Buena Vista
  • Family friendly area with lots of access to public trails around Ruby Mountain

  Mueller State Park Campground

  Absolutely Wonderful

  This is less than thirty minutes from my house, but feels like a world away. Spots are close but private and paved pads make leveling easy. Most sites are pull through along the road and include electric. Back in sites are also available. The campground was full even with the snow and cold in early September. There are very few undesirable spots within the grounds, and the group sites are exceptional.

  Vault and flush toilets are available at various locations through the campground, and there is a self-service dump station available at the front of the campground. We did run into the issue of people dumping buckets of waste in the dump station and not washing everything down, so look before you step.

  Tent pads are large platforms filled with pea gravel, and include well maintained picnic tables and fire rings. The grounds and campsites are beautifully maintained and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains are plentiful.

  Watch out for wildlife and be sure to read restrictions and rules on the maps provided at the gate - use and closures change seasonally.

  Cripple Creek Hospitality House & RV Park

  Best rv park in Tellar County

  Have spent summer 2021 here.  A few blocks from all the casinos (they all run shuttles).

  Great staff, owners on site daily.  There is a food truck (Doc's) with GREAT food, permanently on site. Laundry on site, Shower & bathrooms.
  The Cripple Creek Burros (free range about town) are here often. NOTE: the burros like our hummingbird feeders!
  Open year round (limited rv sites open through winter)
  Hotel on property was once the Cripple Creek Hospital and is "period restored."

  I've spent seven summers in Colorado in my rv, Hospitality House and RV Park has been one of the best summers we've had.

  32' 5th wheel, 50 amp. Reasonable long term rate.

  Round Mountain

  Great area for OHV

  Round mountain campground

  $20 per night. There are no electrical hook ups or sewer hook ups for big rigs. It looks a little bit like dispersed camping. Each site has a picnic table and a designated fire pit. The sites are pull through in some situations. Not all of them, but some of them. There are restrooms on site with your credibly clean. The camp management seems to do a good job of keeping the area well organized. It’s nestled down in the trees and he’s very pretty and secluded. The issue in this area is that it is all designated for OHV usage so there is some noise. We pulled it on a Thursday afternoon and could see three or four ATVs riding around. The campground has designated quiet hours from 10 PM to 6 AM, but that won’t stop you from getting disturbed during the daytime. The other issue in this area as there is no firewood. They sell bundles for eight dollars at the managers office. My recommendation would be to come well prepared and bring lots of your own firewood. At the time we got in their water pump was also not working, but they were selling bottled water again at the Campground managers station.

  One Mile

  Nice riverfront campground

  Big Rig friendly. 30 amp service. Good cell service on Verizon. Some highway noise but the river just on the otherside makes it an enjoyable place to camp. Clean bathrooms.

  Mountain Time RV Park & Cabins (Formerly Tall Texan)

  Easily accessible RV park near Gunnison, CO

  They have a great staff that is friendly and always accessible! We have a back-in site but they have pull throughs also. There is a playground for the kids, laundry, and bathrooms with showers. They allow fires and provide a “fire pit” that is constructed from an old washer tub with legs welded on. Just ask for one at the front desk. They also sell firewood for the fire. Oh, and they come by and pick up your trash at your site between 9-5 each day just leave your bag out by the road. There are full hookups at most of the sites. The area is in walking distance of the Gunnison River and there is a nice hiking trail on the south side of the river heading west. There is also a bike path that goes back into town and up the road toward Crested Butte. On the main road (intersection of CR11 and highway 135) there is a bus stop for a free bus trip into Gunnison. The men’s bathroom had a couple of issues, the overhead light didn’t work very well and one of the toilets was malfunctioning but they got those fixed pretty quickly. There is a nice combination of shade (from the trees) and sun at all the sites.

  Happy meadows campground. 8 reservable spots. $20 per night. Right on south platte river. Amazing views. Restroom, water and wood for sale Just off tarryall road in lake george. Easy access. No pull through locations for big rigs

  Difficult Campground

  Views For Days!!!

  So much of Colorado is impressive, let me just start with that. I wanted to swing through Aspen to check out the John Denver Sanctuary before heading to Denver and found the Difficult Campground on a listing for the area.

  Like many campgrounds in Colorado, facilities are limited in fall and winter as they prepare for cold weather. The campground itself was no exception. CLOSED! I was so upset, however I stumbled upon a ranger in the area and he said I could stay if I parked and walked in from the entrance and would not have access to toilets.

  Seemed fair, backcountry style camping with some amenities like a fire ring and table. I thought Indeed it would be a winning experience!! Boy was a right!!

  The river flows alongside the campground and makes for such a relaxing sound throughout the evening. I saw several small animals as I hiked in, mostly squirrels, birds and a small fox.

  The tree coverage of the area cut the wind in the evening just enough. I had the campground to myself and it was one of the coolest feelings ever!

  There was no cell service at the campground.

  I had to bring in my own small firewood because they discourage you from foraging for fallen branches at the campgrounds typically. I have seen that during the regular season there is a small store that has firewood available near the entrance area.

  I look forward to getting back to this site during the summer season!!

  TIPS:

  • Bring your own firewood. While sometimes it is available in the area, you will want to bring your own just in case to make sure you are keeping it in the fire ring.

  • Check the website first. I was looking online at this campsite and discovered if they have weather related closings or fire bans they list them very vividly on their site which can be very helpful in helping you determine if you would like to stay here.

  Three Rivers Resort & Outfitting

  Great location with easy access fishing

  Great location with full hookups for RVs. The description mentions back-in sites only, and while our electric hookup was conveniently on the same side, we had to run our water and sewage lines underneath the RV since those hookups were on the opposite side—this seems to be the case for all sites. The campground is perfectly situated at the intersection of the Gunnison, Taylor, and East Rivers, making it ideal for fly fishing. They offer cabins, RV sites, and long-term housing options. There's a small store with basic items, beer, and merchandise, plus a fly shop in the same building. There's also a restaurant, though it was closed during our stay, and coin-operated laundry facilities. Overall, a great stay!
