Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Semmes, AL

Meaher State Park Campground accommodates pets across its tent, RV, and cabin sites with minimal restrictions. All campers can bring dogs to this waterfront park near Mobile Bay, though pets must remain leashed at all times. The park's crushed stone pathways provide excellent walking routes for dogs, with convenient waste stations positioned throughout the grounds. Full hookup RV sites feature spacious areas for pet exercise, while cabin guests appreciate the porch areas for relaxing with pets. The park's owners have created personalized welcome signs that include pet names upon arrival. Most campgrounds in the area prohibit leaving pets unattended at campsites, even in RVs, during summer months due to heat concerns. Veterinary services are available within 15 minutes of most Semmes-area campgrounds, with the closest emergency clinic located in Mobile. Shady Acres Campground provides basic pet accommodations but visitors report occasional issues with unleashed dogs, requiring extra caution when walking pets in the early morning hours.

    Parkers Landing RV Park

    Nice Little Park

This is a nice little park. Not fancy, but friendly and quiet. The office people were really nice and very accomodating. Has a small pool, showers/restrooms, and laundry. There are maybe 50% fulltime residents, but we were there for two months and never heard/saw any drama or trouble. People were friendly and kept mainly to themselves. Park has lots of shade from beautiful live oak trees and has a waterfront area that is very pretty. No dog park, but plenty of places to walk your leashed pet. There is a boat ramp around the corner and I believe the waterway connects to the river. The park is older, and some of the cement pads are cracked and heaving, but looked like people were able to level up. They mow and trim regularly, so things were neat. This isn't a new fancy park, but it was nice and quiet and we liked it. We had site 64 which was a great really long pull thru with full hookups. Our Verizon reception was good. They offer reasonable weekly and monthly prices as well as nightly. The park is off Exit 41 of I-10 about halfway between D'Iberville/Biloxi exit and Gulfport exit (both have tons of shopping). Local area has tons to do...casinos, beaches, about an hour and quarter to New Orleans, Shuckers baseball, plus tons of great food.

    Shepard State Park Campground

    Lots to do here!

The primitive campsite was very nice. Even though the park was a bit crowded we still had privacy. The dog park was perfect for our two large dog, very clean. My toddler had a very easy time walking around which was a huge plus!  The marsh trails were perfect for viewing wildlife. 10/10, would recommend!

    Deer Creek RV Park

Highly Recommend and will stay here again

We stayed at Deer Creek RV Park after returning from Florida headed back out west and this place is awesome. It is very conveniently located off I-65 and the park is very well kept, bathhouses are immaculate and very large. Has a dog park which our dog loved being off leash and owners are very nice, informative and can also recommend great restaurants around. They also have two other RV sites close to Gulf Shores and OWA in Foley. Highly recommend!

    Gulf State Park Campground

Spacious sites, amenities and close to ocean, but no dogs

This was our first visit to Gulf Shores State Park in Alabama.  The check in was as slow as molasses even though they had lots of staff, mostly standing.  Waited in line for 45 minutes with one person ahead of us taking her sweet time to book a future campsite.  Our site was nice, spacious with privacy.  We were worried about the alligators and snakes so kept pups on a short leash.

The beach was beautiful, with sandy white shores and lots of shells.  However, if you have dogs, it's a no-go so they have to stay back at the camp.  They do have a lovely dog park, right on the lake where dogs can run and swim, but the 'do not feed alligators' was a concern.  Locals said they had never seen one in 15 years... so not sure and not sure I want my dog to be the exception.

We enjoyed the friendly, southern hospitality of the town and would definitely return.  I would investigate other dog friendly places in the area.

    Ahoy RV Resort

Nice clean park with friendly staff

This is a nice RV Park with lots of ammenties, like shuffleboard, pickleball, basketball, social room, pool with cool slide and a dog park. Its pretty close to the highway, so you get road noise, but its not bad. The drive in is about 1/4 mile of dirt road, but the park is paved with decent sized gravel sites, patios, picnic table and firepit and there is a "lake" in the middle of the park. The park is surrounded by tall pine trees, which is really nice. It was pretty expensive, and is 15 miles from the beach (66 for one night including discount), so not sure that we'd be back, but their weekly and monthly fees arent so bad. Overall a very nice park.

    Majestic Oaks RV Resort

    Best RV park in town!

    Sun Outdoors Orange Beach

    Lots of concrete

This is an all Inclusive RV Resort! Lots of spaces, but very few RVs when we were there. Sites are all concrete with easy access hookups. Not much shade. 2 pools, one adult only. Dog Park, laundry, tennis courts, gulf cart rental. They even have a business center. Walking trails connect to Gulf State Park. They do a lot of planned activities which can be annoying. Long term or short term sites available.

What to do

Fishing access points: Blakeley State Park Campground provides excellent waterfront access along the Blakeley River. "Beautiful sunset at the water was beautiful" notes Aaron D., who visited in 2025. The park features a boat launch for those bringing personal watercraft.

Trail exploration: The 26-mile trail network at Blakeley State Park includes flat, easy-to-moderate routes through historic sites. Julie D. describes them as "trails that were once the streets of the town of Blakeley. A beautiful hike on boardwalks along the Blakeley River then through a swamp deep into woods amongst ancient oaks."

Beach swimming: Gulf State Park Campground offers a designated swimming area with a roped-off section for safer water recreation. "There is a boat launch, which is popular, a pier and also 2 cabins that you can rent," reports Karen L. This makes it convenient for families wanting structured water activities with safety features.

What campers like

Site privacy: Gulf State Park Campground features uniquely designed sites. Rick B. explains, "We had a nice, level, paved pull-through site where all of the sites on our street faced their own private view of the wetlands." This layout provides more seclusion than typical state park arrangements.

Wildlife viewing: Campsites near waterways offer excellent opportunities to observe local wildlife. Lynn G. shares that at Meaher State Park, "The park is in the middle of the delta, giving easy access to the water and lovely views. Trails are short but the boardwalk connecting the two parts of the park is incredible."

Accessible amenities: Mobile County Park Chickasabogue delivers convenience with on-site firewood delivery. Clay M. notes, "Fire rings and they deliver your firewood to your site," eliminating the need to transport supplies or search for local vendors during your stay.

What you should know

Ant prevention: Gulf area campgrounds frequently experience ant issues requiring preparation. One camper at Meaher State Park advises, "I have done tent camping at this park a couple times. All of the sites are close together and the ants are ridiculous. I had read reviews about the ants prior so I came prepared."

Accessibility limitations: Pet friendly camping near Semmes, Alabama sometimes comes with terrain challenges. Chickasabogue Park has limited access for larger vehicles, as Shannon W. explains: "Not a very big area for you to camp if you have a pull behind or big RV. But people do manage to get the bigger camper and RVs in and parked."
