Most sites feature electric hookups, with some offering direct lake access. The park's facilities remain clean and well-maintained, with shower houses regularly updated throughout the camping season from May through October. South Wood County Park offers spacious waterfront sites on Lake Wazeecha with paved and grass camping pads that accommodate both tent and RV camping.

Campers note the campground feels more spacious than expected despite offering resort-style amenities. Nearby trails surrounding Petenwell Lake provide excellent dog walking opportunities with lake access for pets that enjoy swimming. Moonlite Trails Campground offers peaceful sites with sand and grass camping areas, full hookups, and on-site firewood and ice available for purchase. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound at nearby Necedah National Wildlife Refuge, though pet owners should remain vigilant about tick prevention during summer months. Wisconsin Dells KOA

Good campground for families with kids

A central playground and pool are the biggest draws for families with kids. There's also a prospecting 'sluice' that you can buy for the kids to look for 'fossils' and interesting rocks.

The campground is located just north of the main attractions of Wisconsin Dells.

Campsites are not overly generous in size -- typical KOA, where some are 'stacked like cordwood'. Don't go there if you want any privacy from your neighbors.

Cabins are available for those wanting to 'camp' without a camper.

      Very small dog park area.

Friendly check in staff. However, we were given a map with our campsite noted and told to wait for a person driving a golf cart to escort us and help us get situated. We waited...and waited...and waited...golf carts came and went, but passed us by. We finally gave up waiting and found out site by ourselves.

      Ho-Chunk RV Resort & Campground

Convenient RV Stay Near the Dells

Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells RV Park is a nice option if you want an easy RV stay close to the casino and Wisconsin Dells attractions. I like that it feels convenient and low-hassle, with full hook-up sites, Wi-Fi, showers, laundry, a playground, pet area, and access to some hotel/casino amenities.

Pros: great location, full hook-ups, convenient amenities, close to entertainment.

Cons: it is more practical than scenic, and it is RV-only, so no tent camping.

Overall, it’s a good pick if you want a comfortable RV base near the Dells instead of a rustic campground.

      Rocky Arbor State Park Campground

Wooded, beautiful, and secluded but nearby the Dells!

This park gives the option of both tent and camper sites. Many of the sites are separated from others by some space and numerous trees, tucked back away in the pine forest. The secluded nature gives it the feel of a National Park with beautiful stretches of pine and rocky ledges. Most sites are quiet, with only the slightest hum of the interstate in the background (although a couple may be loud, so beware which site you book). Staff is friendly and helpful, firewood is available at the park. Many pit toilets are available, as well as running water/showers. Playgrounds are also in the park, a pet area, water fill up station, some trails (nothing much for hiking). Very very close to the Dells as well! Mosquitoes are terrible during the summer, but that’s to be expected anywhere in Wisconsin.

      Wedges Creek Hideaway

Rustic Glamping - exactly what we were looking for

This is a diamond in the rough - exactly what we wanted on our journey.  Our criteria - less than $100, pet friendly and rustic.

This is a sawmill that has it all - they run the mill when needed, but also have primitive cabins (where we stayed), full cabins with in house bath, electric RV/tent camping and more. Even wood fired pizzas with homemade crust most nights of the week and sometimes live music!

We were in cabin #3 - rustic.  Yes - it did have heat!  A little ceramic heater had it so toasty when it was 30 degrees outside we actually turned it off - so it's sure to please on chilly nights.  The interior was amazing - lumber that I'm sure came from the mill and ceiling planks that were gorgeous - left over planks from many years ago, stored in a shed and re-purposed for the cabin. The bed was very comfortable with clean sheets and squishy (in a good way) pillows. A small covered front porch and we just parked in front.

Bathroom - if you are in a cabin without a bath, it's very nearby. One of the largest, cleanest bathrooms I've seen.  He built it himself. Women's had 2 sinks with a large vanity area, about 3 stalls (very large - you don't have to squish into them) and two very large shower stalls with full doors - not shower curtains. Heated as well.

Pets - easy pet policy. Just let the owner know and it's no problem as long as you are responsible, pick up after them and leash them when necessary.  Just a small charge for them and they were very welcomed here.

He even has event space indoors (heated) and outdoors for weddings and such.  And hiking trails (6 miles) if you choose to take on the outdoors.

The owner plans on adding saunas and a hot tub in the near future - so this would be the place to drop for a while if you want something out of the norm, peaceful, rustic and relaxing. It's off the main road, behind a field in Amish Country.  Lovely place to stay for the night. Very quiet.

      Camp Lake Mason

The hosts are great people. Friendly and very very helpful.

The hosts and the family are warm and friendly and very helpful as are the residents. The setting has wonderful trees and a variety of birds including daily sightings of a  Bald Eagle so bring binoculars if you have them. Fishing is pretty good and there are many things to see and do in the area. We hope to get back there again. We were there in June 2025 and fish (carp) were spawning along the shore. Pets are welcome if well behaved and on a leash. Pull thru sites are available and more seem to be added as time permits.Sewer, water, and 50amp elec. are standard here and WiFi is very reliable. Many places to visit .

      Oakdale KOA

      Right on the highway

It’s early in the season so the campground is mostly empty, but this KOA is a convenient stop off the highway for local adventures at the nearby state parks or Elroy Sparta bike trail. The basic amenities are good- level sites, fire pit, a tree, nice store, playground, and a pool in warmer weather. It’s more of a place to park your camper than a destination. The campground is right off the highway, so we can see and hear trucks through the night. But they have some nice perks, like goats and chickens on site. The staff let the kids pet the goats and chickens, and loaned us discs to play disc golf. They have one practice basket in the back. There is a small but very nice playground, bathrooms and showers, and laundry facilities. So I would recommend staying here if you want to visit nearby parks and want the convenience of full hookup spots. Great for an easy pull off the highway on your way to more exciting locations. Since most things are closed due to Covid-19, I can’t comment on nearby activities. A clean and convenient location with very nice owners and staff. We would stay again if passing through.

      Wisconsin Dells KOA

      Did not meet expectations

      DO NOT RENT SITE B25!

We were in B25 for 8 nights. We did not spend a lot of time at the campsite and when we were there it was too hot to be outside. However it smelled. After 5 days I contacted the manager. He tried to write it off as “agriculture smells.” I knew it wasn’t and I couldn’t smell it anywhere else. He visited our site and determined it was the newly (city) installed sewer line behind our camper. He did refund one night stay.

We were in the new part of the campground, the site was level and the full hookups were well placed. Plenty of room and a concrete patio & nice picnic table.

There was only one activity (movie) the 8 days we were there. The staff was less than friendly and there was no trash pickup. Grounds were clean and relatively well maintained. The k9 camps needed poo pick up as some pet owners don’t do it.

Didn’t use the pool area. It seemed small but looked in good shape.

      Wonewoc Legion Park

      One Of Our Favorite Stops

We were lucky enough to have this beautiful little gem all to ourselves. The campground is super quiet, clean and very well maintained. It’s located about 40 minutes away from the Wisconsin Dells and has easy access to the 400 State bike trail. We took the Dells boat tour and enjoyed biking through the beautiful surrounding countryside and sampling the delicious goods at Wonewoc’s farmer’s market. Everywhere we went, people were so kind and helpful. We look forward to stopping in again.

    Guide to Nekoosa

Petenwell Park campground accommodates pets throughout its forested and lakefront sites, with most camping areas offering electric hookups and water access. Dogs must remain leashed while exploring the park's shoreline trails along Lake Petenwell. Both Wilderness Park and South Wood County Park maintain pet-friendly policies with spacious sites that provide adequate separation between camping neighbors. Bathroom facilities at these campgrounds remain consistently clean despite the presence of pets, with many campers noting the well-maintained shower houses. Some lakeside campsites experience occasional biting flies during summer months, so pet owners should bring appropriate insect protection. Camping options include both tent and RV sites with hookups, though pet owners should note that Petenwell requires pets to stay within designated camping zones.

Lakeside Fire Campground & Waterpark extends pet access beyond typical tent and RV sites to include their cabin accommodations. Dogs enjoy swimming access at several waterfront campsites where clean water access makes exercise convenient. Moonlite Trails Campground offers full hookup sites with pets welcome, providing a more secluded option with fewer campers. Wood County parks in the region maintain hiking paths ideal for morning dog walks, with most trails connecting directly to camping areas. Veterinary services require driving to nearby towns, as the closest communities with animal care facilities sit approximately 15 miles from most campgrounds. Winter camping with pets remains available at select year-round parks including Petenwell, though winter amenities may be limited. Lakeside areas can experience algae blooms depending on wind conditions, potentially affecting pet swimming opportunities.
