Best Dog-Friendly Camping in Wisconsin

Willow River State Park Campground accommodates pets throughout its spacious grounds, allowing dogs to remain with families during outdoor adventures. Leashed pets can access designated areas, but must stay under control at all times. Copper Falls State Park similarly welcomes pets with specific restrictions to maintain wildlife protection zones. Campgrounds throughout Wisconsin consistently provide pet-friendly options across various accommodation types including tent sites, RV spaces, and select cabins. Most locations require proper waste disposal and adherence to quiet hours to prevent excessive barking. Bathroom facilities remain remarkably clean at most pet-friendly parks, with staff maintaining high standards of cleanliness despite the presence of animals. Many campsites feature level grounds with ample space between neighbors, creating comfortable environments for both pets and owners. Local campgrounds are searchable through The Dyrt's listings.

Extensive trail systems throughout Wisconsin state parks offer excellent opportunities for dog walking, with many areas providing waste stations along popular routes. Off-leash exercise areas exist at select locations, though availability varies by season and park regulations. Several campgrounds position sites near water features like Lake Wissota State Park, where dogs can cool off during summer months while following designated swimming guidelines. Raccoons and other wildlife present legitimate concerns for pet owners, requiring secure food storage and constant supervision of animals, particularly at dusk and dawn. One frequent camper noted that Governor Dodge State Park maintains exceptionally clean facilities despite heavy pet traffic throughout the busy season. Winter camping with pets requires additional considerations including appropriate shelter options and protection from subfreezing temperatures. Veterinary services can typically be found within 30-minute drives of most established campgrounds, with park offices maintaining emergency contact information.

    Harrington Beach State Park Campground

    Beautiful secluded state park!

This was our first time camping in Wisconsin and we got to say we absolutely love this park. Most of the sites are pretty secluded so if you enjoy your privacy I will love this place. Everything was clean and updated including the bathrooms. The campsites are about a mile or two from Lake Michigan but it is an easy drive or hike as there are many trails that go through the park. When we went to the lake level was up so high due to flooding that we weren’t really able to enjoy the beach but normally there is plenty of coastline for enjoying some beach time.

    Crazy Horse Campground

    A little something of everything

Friendly staff and a nicely stocked store. Has a pool, petting zoo, kayaks, rocky beach, dog park, and a land pillow! The sites are spaced out well and there are more secluded sites so you have the feeling of privacy or big group sites for a big party.

    Newport State Park Campground

    Best hike-in camping in Wisconsin!

This is the best place to camp in Wisconsin if you’re looking for a mix of outdoor adventure and touristy activities like drive in theaters and wine tastings. The site we stayed at was a 1.5 mile hike in. You could definitely bring a mountain bike to make the trip to and from your campsite faster but we enjoyed the hike. I’ve been for 2 separate 3-day trips and never once saw another camper. The sites are far enough apart to feel like no one else is around. Enjoy the best that Wisconsin has to offer!

    Wisconsin Dells KOA

Good campground for families with kids

A central playground and pool are the biggest draws for families with kids. There's also a prospecting 'sluice' that you can buy for the kids to look for 'fossils' and interesting rocks.

The campground is located just north of the main attractions of Wisconsin Dells.

Campsites are not overly generous in size -- typical KOA, where some are 'stacked like cordwood'. Don't go there if you want any privacy from your neighbors.

Cabins are available for those wanting to 'camp' without a camper.

    Very small dog park area.

Friendly check in staff. However, we were given a map with our campsite noted and told to wait for a person driving a golf cart to escort us and help us get situated. We waited...and waited...and waited...golf carts came and went, but passed us by. We finally gave up waiting and found out site by ourselves.

Big Foot Beach State Park Campground

    Surprising secret camp ground

We love private campsites, far enough away from other campers, yet close enough to amenities. We chose a walk in site #16 which was nice but I wish we chose one a bit further in. Bathrooms where very clean. Trails are great. Pet friendly - we brought our small, quiet dogs. Dog friendly restaurant right next to the camp site.

    Milton-Madison SE KOA

    Great stay

Just became KOA met local campers that love this park! Good sites, trash pickup at side! They even have a snack bar and deliver to your campsite! No enclosed dog park but plenty of area to walk your dog!

    Kohler-Andrae State Park

Great camp with awesome lake access

The interior sites are a little cramped and may not accommodate larger RVs; however, the access to Lake Michigan more than makes up for it. There is a really cool dog park on the beach. While not something I typically look for in a review, the dump sites are new and excellent.

    Brunet Island State Park Campground

Best state park I’ve been to!

Stayed here on a east/west camping trip. Beautiful state park. Sites are shaded and large. Big enough that we were able to tie out 2 large dogs each on 30 ft leads. The park has a bicycle path that walkers can also use that’s along the river. Our site backed up to the bicycle path with the river behind us. Great place to walk. Staff and hosts very friendly and helpful. Don’t be alarmed when you drive by a school and housing area to get to it! The park also has an off leash dog park. I wasn’t able to check that out though but have wished state parks would consider adding. Bathrooms extremely clean with the best state park showers Ive ever used (and I mostly camp at state parks across the US). If I get back to this area I would definitely camp here again.
