We spent 4 nights here. Used this park as a base camp for New River Gorge NP. There's many other State Parks we visited too.
This park has a LOT of razzle dazzle. A zip line, a golf course, no pool but a splash pad. They also have a tram that's closed right now for refurbishing.
A lake with fishing & boating. You can rent a boat.
The Nature Center is nice. The typical stuffed animals. You're not allowed to pet the bear!!
Lots of trails. A horse barn. A large "lodge" & cabins for rent.
There's 82 sites in the campground.
1- 31 have full hookup.
32- 49 electric only.
50- 82 water& electric
Sites 1-4 are handicapped sites.
We were in site 1 by the bathrooms/ showers.
There are pretty good sites, but watch the site descriptions for the incline.
The water/electric sites surround a large field. These sites tend to be sunny.
1- 49 are in the woods. The sites seem small, but the perimeter sites face the woods.
44 is a large site, but the incline is severe, so appropriate for Class B or tents.
I didn't like site 5 at all. It sits right as the road curves down a hill.
The showers/bathrooms were very much on the lower spectrum of state park clean. It looked like they had been remodeled fairly recently, but not cleaned often. The campground doesn't seem to generate the same attention as the rest of the park. There's no DNR presence, no one driving through the campground. We rarely saw any employees checking the bathrooms.
I would probably not stay here again since we won't be coming this way for a long time.
RangerReally enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful resort style property and close to the National Park. Sites are big, a few are un-level but ours in site 15 was great. Clean facilities. Great pool and restaurants. Activities offered are awesome. Great place to vacation!
ScoutWe had a wonderful experience at River Ridge! It has the best little area along the Greenbrier River for easy kayaking, fishing or floating in inner tubes. We even rented a kayak for few hours and put in up the river passes the people bridge and came out right back at the campground an hour later. The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful, even after office hours with firewood. Everyone around us were other families and made for a great atmosphere. Quiet hours were well respected and it was always very clean. We can’t wait to come back!
ScoutNice clean place. Right next to river. A bit noisy since the RV sites are next to the road & railway is across from river. Pet friendly & nice size bundles of firewood for $10. They even come by in the morning to pock up your trash. Wish we had more time to take a float down river, they rent kayak & tubes.
GuideBluebird Campground was one of three camps in this section of the park. 12 sites in the primitive section were all next to a medium-sized creek with rapidly running water. Great hiking trails, though not really scenic, some are challenging, and the one I hiked with my dog was muddy with tiny creeks running through and large logs in the trail to traverse. The sites were very spacious and relatively private from other campers but the road was a few feet away with light traffic on the weekday. The speed limit was 10 mph,so not to disturbing.
TravelerMountain Lake Campground is a massive system of varied campsites (hammock sites to large full-hookups). This was our first trip here and since arriving we’ve been impressed. Staff is courteous, facilities are very clean and stocked, and the property has so many amenities (shower houses, laundromats, pools, ice cream store, and playgrounds).
While sitting at our fire pit tonight, we booked a return trip in September.

GuideThis was a great base for visiting New River Gorge NP. The campground is quiet with well space sites. Bathrooms are traditional but clean and functioning well. Laundry had only 1 washer and 1 dryer. The park has a lot of trails and a lake but we didn’t have time to check them out. Many sites looked like it may take some work to get level. We were in site 20 with a 23 ft TT and got level fairly easily but a longer rig may have difficulty in that site.
GuideAnother terrific park in West Virginia. So much to do. The sites accommodate everything from tents to large fifth wheels.
The Riverside loop, there is another loop on the east end of the park (it was closed).
The Greenbrier River was right at the back of our site. People were floating and fishing and paddling. The Greenbrier River Trail, an 80 mile long rail trail is just across the river, accessible two mile from the park, we rode our bikes to the trail.
Hiking, and Arboretum trail, so much to do.
Cranberry Wilderness is less than 30 mins away. Great hiking, the best Visitor's center, with the nicest folks.
