Right on the river

Cool spot. I feel like it’s haunted. South side junction trail is right there and leads to thurmond ; an almost abondoned coal mining town

Odd setup but free is free!

Setup is four sites in one line, so to get to the pot-o-potty or parking lot, you walk through other sites. Otherwise, the riverfront spot is perfect and it’s a quite secluded campground! And who can beat the price!

Note for light sleepers: there is an active railroad across the river and there were probably 5-10 trains the Wednesday night that we stayed.

Great location, map was wrong

Google maps does not take you there, it took us to the other side of the river. We arrived after dark. There is no check in. You just arrive and pick a site. We came out of regular camping season so we couldn’t find anywhere near by that sold firewood. There is 1 handicap site and 4 sites by the river. The handicap site is the only one that you can drive directly up to. The 4 sites by the river have a parking lot and you walk (not very far at all, 10 - 50 yards) to them. The view of the river is beautiful and you can watch trains pass on the opposite side of the river.
