White water rafting, zip lining, a lake with giant inflatable obstacle courses, disc golf, mountain biking, and equestrian trails all operate out of this activity-heavy resort in the New River Gorge region of West Virginia. Ace Adventure Resort sits on a mountaintop above Oak Hill, and the campground itself reflects that elevation, with forested sites spread across hilly terrain that give most spots decent shade and room between neighbors. A few open sites along the edges lack tree cover, which matters on hot summer days.
The mountaintop tent sites each come with a picnic table, fire ring, and garbage can. Reviewers consistently note the campground is kept clean, and the bathhouse, a short walk from the sites, has individual lockable rooms with a toilet and shower in each. One is ADA-accessible. An outdoor sink station near the bathrooms handles dish washing and water fills. Gary W. called it a "nice clean campground" where "sites are not stacked on top of each other." That said, a few campers have flagged inconsistent shower temperatures, so packing a backup plan for cold mornings is not a bad idea.
The resort's activity roster is the main draw. As Terah J. noted, options include "white water rafting (day trips and overnighters), ziplines, mud course, biking and more." The lake with its inflatable wipeout-style courses requires a day pass, and most activities carry additional fees. Packages are available. A restaurant and general store sit at the base of the hill, and a fishing pond is accessible from the campground.
Road access to the sites deserves attention. The climb to the mountaintop requires a reliable vehicle, particularly on the steeper sections. The site boundaries in the tent camping area can feel loosely defined, which some campers find disorienting on arrival. The resort has grown considerably in recent years and draws crowds, especially during summer weekends and events like Bridge Day at the nearby New River Gorge Bridge. Reservations are recommended. Nearby, DunGlen Campsite and New & Gauley River Adventures Camping offer alternatives for paddlers who want a quieter base, while those exploring campgrounds near Thurmond will find the area well-served with river-access options. Ace works best for families or groups who want organized outdoor activities bundled with their camping, rather than those seeking a low-key backcountry experience.
