Utah is primarily known for two things: its world-class skiing and winding slot canyons. But the Beehive State has much more to offer the outdoor enthusiast. It's home to five national parks and eight national monuments. And that's just the beginning. There is no shortage of exotic camping in Utah.


For desert dwellers, Monument Valley never disappoints. It’s the kind of place that leaves a person searching for meaning. When the sun dips below the monuments and the sky radiates with color, it’s easy to see why the Navajo people revere the land. Media buffs will also recognize the familiar landmarks from film and TV. Those visiting Bears Ears can see Monument Valley in the distance from campsites like Muley Point.


Campers who visit Goblin Valley get a unique experience. An amphitheater of bizarrely-shaped hoodoos greets visitors. Even though there are hoodoos all over Utah, none compare to the “goblins” in this state park. They make an excellent backdrop for photos, adventure, games, and soul-searching.


A worthy Utah destination is Zion National Park, growing more popular by the year. The etched canyon walls make a lasting impression, as they jut thousands of feet up from the earth. The sense of perspective visitors experience keeps them coming back. The Watchman campground is a popular choice for campers. It offers accessibility to trails, the Virgin River, a shuttle bus, and the adjacent town. 


Many will also make a trip to nearby Bryce Canyon National Park, to see the infamous spires. Staying at the North campground is a great way to see the best parts of the park.


It doesn’t take a road trip to go camping in Utah. The state capital, Salt Lake City, butts up against the Wasatch Mountains. Fifteen minutes up one of the canyons is all it takes to trade city noise for alpine meadows and lakes. In the summer, Albion Basin blooms with color. Red Pine Lake is a secluded campsite with two lakes and frequent wildlife sightings.


For a different kind of mountain experience, the Uinta Mountains aren’t much farther. They’re the only mountain range in the contiguous US that runs east-west. Still part of the Rockies, they’re Utah’s highest range, with King’s Peak topping out at 13,528 feet. Most of the camping is dispersed, but Mirror Lake is a great campground right off the main scenic highway.


There’s something for everyone in the great state of Utah. From the desert climate to the fresh mountain air; unique experiences found only in the land of Zion. With nooks and crannies waiting to be explored, camping in Utah is, indeed, life elevated.

We are a great spot to stay and have onsite a zip line into Lake Elevate, water slide into the pond, adventure island, zipline, kayaking, paddle boarding,

catch and release fishing, and close to all fun in the San Rafael Swell.

20 min or so from three reservoirs for additional fishing, swimming and motor boating, 30 minutes from the Little Grand Canyon for breathtaking views, hiking and mountain biking, petroglyphs and the San Rafael Swell river to float on, 60 minutes from Goblin Valley, within 60 minutes to multiple slot canyons: Little Wild Horse Canyon, Muddy Creek, The Chute (similar to Zion National Park), Baptist Draw, to name a few.

The Ranch is a picturesque, convenient and very well-hidden secret in Utah's east central high desert and that's how we intend to keep it!

Please remember we are not a developed "commercial campground" and we don't ever intend to be... (there are no hot showers, no potable drinking water, no fixed toilet facilities and no sewer hookup -- but we do have a well maintained port-a-potty and non-potable water for washing, cleaning and showering-- located at the main wagon wheel camp area). We are an historic, goat, sheep and cattle ranch exploring the concept of agri-tourism and are sharing our private property with you as guests. If you are into off-grid peace, quiet and solitude we are your deal!

We cater to the independent "do-it-yourselfer-get-away-from-the-crowd" primitive dry camp type of guest and explorer! Please, please be aware that our main priority is managing the ranch, our offsite farms and our animals scattered in between so we might not always be available every minute to show you in person or answer every call every minute about where to park or where to find the port-a-potty etc..

IF YOU PACK IT IN PLEASE PACK IT OUT!   WE DO NOT PROVIDE TRASH PICKUP OR RECEPTICALS!

The only rule here? Do at least the first ~250 yards of the 2.5 mile loop trail hike to the sheep camp, pond and stream and historic stone buildings (the trail head is located on the north side of the main wagon wheel camping area right next to the port-a-potty). The trail immediately descends down a rocky steep and scenic dug-way and follows the course of a small stream, gorgeous cottonwood, pinion pines and juniper trees!

Don't forget your camera folks and be sure to keep an eye on your kids and pets. Watch your step and be on the lookout for steep ledges, drop offs, tree branches, sharp rocks, barbwire, a twisting trail and variety of native animals and birds. Take the full loop and find the hidden and historic stone brothel/dance hall (yup, an honest to goodness house of ill repute... ) located right next to an historic rail line that connected the towns of Price and Hiawatha back in 1916 & 17!

With over 1000 acres to roam, we can provide almost unlimited over flow camping that is of variable distance from the main wagon wheel camp area. Explore the tranquil seclusion along picturesque Miller Creek as it courses for a mile bisecting the center of the ranch. Cool your feet in the crystal clear water at noon or take a nap in the shade of magnificent riparian cottonwoods. Check out the 1/2 acre hidden pond and spring!

Avoid worrying about full campsites (particularly on weekends and holidays) as you'll find the privacy, safety, and solitude you're seeking among pinion pines, hundreds of years old twisted cedar (juniper) trees and crystal blue clear skies!

Close your eyes, feel the cool breeze and take in the scent of a burning cedar campfire. Bask in splendor while camping on the east slope of the spectacular Manti La Sal National Forest, Star Point and Gentry Mountain!

Relax, avoid the traffic, headache, congestion, and noise of better known and more heavily visited recreational sites before you head back to civilization! Isn't that what you really intended to do?

Prep the mountain/electric bikes and lace up your favorite hiking boots or jogging shoes. Maybe kick back and enjoy a quiet evening around the large group camp bonfire! Later, take one of the unimproved trails for an off-the-grid reclusive expedition or look for that perfect remote camp site.

Colloquial western folk tales, ghost stories and some incredible western music can be had here as well as horse trail rides, Amish buggy rides and even a motorized tour are available.

Just one more thing... Since the ranch is bordered by public federal BLM and state SITLA lands there are literally thousands of additional acres to explore but only accessible through the ranch main gate. And for Pete's sake don't forget extra fuel, food, clothing and your camera!

Discover the historic stone brothel (that's right including a bar and dance hall built in ~1916 & 17) with a late 1880's inscription on the back wall).

Hike, bike, or ride along the bed of the historic Utah Railway line that connected the towns of Price and Hiawatha via a rare early gasoline propelled locomotive back in 1912 (lasted only a few years before an historic flood destroyed its trestles). Check out the remains of a 100+ year old relic pump house, spring, and pond that settlers relied on to irrigate cultivated farm plots on the historic homestead.

Keep an eye out for deer, moose, coyotes, rabbits, golden eagles or a lonesome cowboy moving cattle along your path. Wake early and stay up late for a spectacular summer sunrise and sunset under an authentic Navajo "Cha ha' oh" (summer shade hut) at the main group campsite. Corral and rest your horses in one of three enclosures outfitted with automatic waters, feed tubs, and onsite alfalfa/grass 2 string bales (available on request). And don't forget to take a dip in one of the two solar-powered cattle watering troughs if it gets too hot!

Check out an absolutely gorgeous vintage restored 1920's sheep camp (our favorite) or simply throw out your bed roll under the stars about anywhere!

The Hideout is located ~20 miles as the crow flies south of the infamous "Castle Gate hold up" that was staged on April 21, 1897, at the mouth of Price Canyon in east-central Utah. Located 15 miles (as the crow flies) from the San Rafael Swell's "Wedge Overlook" (aka Little Grand Canyon) and within easy striking distance of the Buckhorn Wash, Cedar Mountain, Tavaputs Plateau, Huntington Reservoir, Electric Lake, Scofield Reservoir, Joe's Valley Reservoir as well as countless other recreational sites in Carbon and Emery County!

In need of a place for this summer family reunion? This is it! Have a grand shootin' time in an authentically recreated western town with saloon, bank and out buildings at the neighboring world class "North Springs Shooting range" (Single Action Shooter Society--SASS approved) or practice at the modern pistol, rifle, long distance and/or archery range (located just a couple miles north and east of the ranch). ATVs? there are hundreds of miles of trails/2-tracks on public state and federal lands to explore in almost any direction surrounding the ranch.

Got a hunter in the family? Because the ranch borders the majestic central Utah Manti La Sal mountain range it is key winter range for a very large number of mule deer, elk and other wildlife. Take your favorite hunter on a mid-winter photography extravaganza and enjoy once in a lifetime monster trophy rutting mule deer bucks that will leave even the most proud hunter speechless!

Check out the petroglyphs and pictographs of nearby Nine Mile Canyon (largest collection on earth) or stay put and visit what's left of the ranch's original homestead, early European settlers' stone buildings, prehistoric Fremont Indian pit houses, pioneer dugouts or simply enjoy the spectacular topography, wildlife and scenery.

Located 100 miles north and west of Arches National Park, you're away from the crowds and perfectly situated for exploring the San Rafael Swell! You'll also be just off the well beaten path to Moab and Hanksville, and a plethora of national parks, monuments, and state parks (including Canyonlands, Capital Reef, Goblin Valley, Horseshoe Canyon, Glen Canyon National Recreational Area and Lake Powell to name just a few).

We have undertaken a variety of ongoing environmental conservation stewardship improvement projects collaborating with state and federal conservation agencies as well as multiple not-for-profit wildlife and habitat organizations who have helped improve the aesthetics, historical recognition/preservation, natural beauty, range carrying capacity and rehabilitation of years of unregulated grazing of riparian zones to help maximize the wilderness health, diversity, beauty and agricultural sustainability of the ranch.

We feel it is a privilege to share it with others of like mindedness. Gratuities are used for further wildlife/conservation improvements, cleanup, toilet facilities and a variety of range land and watershed improvements. A mountain bikers dream. Over 50 miles of mountain bike trails from the property. With 238 acres, you will feel like you are the only one there. In addition, the Desert Wave Pool is at the foot of the hill which always has the same amount of water for cooling off even when the lakes are nearly empty. This property is for tents, truck campers, or vans only. We are not licensed for travel trailers.

Wood Hill got its name because early settlers to the area used to gather wood to heat their homes on top of the plateau. It is a favorite hangout for locals who enjoy riding mountain bikes and ATVs on the property. Proceeds from the camp sites will be used to develop a climbing gym, zip line, confidence course and other fun amenities. So we hope you enjoy your stay enough to come back often.

Castle Gate RV Park & Campground is located in Helper, Utah. Only an hour from the Provo area and halfway between downtown Salt Lake City and Moab. Built from scratch and newly opened in 2019, we are excited to have you as our guests!

We have full hookup 30/50 amp Big Rig RV sites, Cabins and tent sites - some with water and electric! Free fiber-optic Wi-Fi, Splash Pad, Laundry, Store, Playground, Horseshoes, and More!

We are just a few walk-able blocks from Historic Helper’s Main Street, with restaurants, coffee shop, bowling alley, museum, art galleries, grocery store, gift shops, bank, business center, liquor store, post office, bar with pool and darts, and many photo opportunities. ## Overview

Little Bear Group Campground is located in beautiful Huntington Canyon along the Huntington Canyon National Scenic Byway on Utah Highway 31. It sits at an elevation of approximately 6,500 feet. Many recreational activities are available, including hiking, biking and fishing.

## Recreation

Popular activities include fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing and scenic driving. Huntington Creek is a Blue Ribbon fishery, offering high quality fishing for brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout.  
  
The 4-mile Left Fork of the Huntington National Recreation Trail is nearby and open to hikers and horseback riders. The 10-mile Fish Creek Trail, for hiking, biking and horseback riding is also near the campground.

## Facilities

Little Bear Group Campground is made up of two large-group campsites, for tent and RV camping. To reserve the entire campground, both sites (A and B) must be reserved at the same time. Each site can accommodate up to 50 people and 15 vehicles. Adjacent parking areas are dirt.   
  
The campsites are equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills. Vault toilets are provided. Utility hookups are not available. Drinking water and trash collection facilities are not available at the campground. Visitors should bring their own water and pack out all garbage.

## Natural Features

Pines and junipers offer plentiful shade and Huntington Creek runs alongside the campground. The canyon area has numerous lakes and streams, vibrant summer wildflowers, colorful fall foliage and abundant wildlife. 

## Nearby Attractions

The Huntington Canyon National Scenic Byway is part of the 86-mile Energy Loop. It offers stunning mountain and lake views as it tops 10,000 feet in elevation.  
  
The historic Stuart Guard Station Visitor Center is nearby, offering a glimpse of the 1930s life of a ranger and his family who once lived there. Exhibits of Civilian Conservation Corps projects and original equipment are also on display. Area information is available there as well.

Little Bear Group

## Overview

Indian Creek Campground is located in a high mountain valley surrounded by beautiful peaks, at an elevation of 8,000 feet. Visitors enjoy exploring the area trails on foot, and by horse and on off-road vehicles.

## Recreation

Horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking are popular activities in the Indian Creek area. Many trails crisscross the surrounding valley and mountainsides.

## Facilities

The campground contains seven large, group-sized campsites that can accommodate from 30 to 70 people. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, but no electricity or garbage service are available within the campground.   
  
Roads and spurs within the campground are dirt. It can be reached via the well-maintained dirt and gravel Cottonwood Creek Road, which providing relatively easy access for cars and RVs.

## Natural Features

Indian Creek is situated in Upper Joe's Valley, on the Wasatch Plateau in Central Utah. A grove of aspens forests the site, offering only limited shade, but bright autumn color. Sagebrush and pines dot the landscape. 

## Nearby Attractions

Potters Pond is nearby, offering great canoeing and rainbow trout fishing.   
  
The expansive Arapeen OHV Trail System can be accessed close by and has more than 350 miles of designated, well-maintained trails for off-road vehicles. Trails there are suitable for all riding levels.

Indian Creek (UT)

## Overview

Old Folks Flat Campground is nestled in beautiful Huntington Canyon along the Huntington Canyon National Scenic Byway on Utah Highway 31. It sits at an elevation of 8,600 feet. Many recreational activities are available, including hiking, biking and fishing. This small campground is accessible by paved road by all types of passenger vehicles.

## Recreation

Popular activities include fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing and scenic driving. Nearby Huntington Creek is a Blue Ribbon fishery, offering high-quality fishing for brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout.  
  
The 4-mile Left Fork of the Huntington National Recreation Trail is nearby and open to hikers and horseback riders. The 10-mile Fish Creek Trail, for hiking, biking and horseback riding, is also close by.

## Facilities

This campground is primarily devoted to group sites, but eight single-family campsites are also available. The five group sites can accommodate up to 20, 50 or 60 people and multiple vehicles in adjacent parking areas.   
  
Sites are equipped with tables and and a campfire rings with grills. The facility has recently been upgraded with flush toilets and drinking water spigots, but electricity and garbage collection service is not available. Roads and parking spurs within the campground are gravel.

## Natural Features

Large spruce trees and aspens cover the campground, offering partial shade. The canyon area has numerous lakes and streams, vibrant summer wildflowers, colorful fall foliage and abundant wildlife. Located just across W State Road 31 is Huntington Creek.

Salt Lake City is quickly becoming not only a destination to visit but one to live in as well. With an abundance of nearby forests and BLM land, and lots of parks to drive to, it’s clear why this section of Utah is becoming so desirable.

It’s hard to choose the best camping near Salt Lake City. The Wasatch National Forest does make a strong case, though. If you like camping by the water, there’s plenty of BLM land near Utah Lake and the Great Salt Lake. Salt Lake City, UT, is uniquely positioned in that you can visit forest campsites by driving east or have your pick of desert campgrounds when driving west. Whatever you choose, there will be an abundance of places to set your tent or RV.
