    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    A Plus RV Park

    Friendly Staff, Easy Highway Access

I have seen this place a million times living in the community nearby and never thought to check to see if they all tent campers. I was shocked to find out they do accommodate them so I passed through and checked out the grounds and wanted to let people know it exists!

There are two entries at the front of the property each easily accessed from the highway. Though they are gravel they are easy to navigate but do hold a little water in the rain. As you drive into the camp there are 4 main rows of camping, mostly in use by RVs however they do also accommodate tent campers. These sites can be picked up nightly or for more long term use so many people at this park have called this their home for a bit. Despite obvious signs of the long term dwellers, the grounds are clean and well maintained and don't look cluttered like some long term campgrounds will begin to look.

The site offers nice restrooms with showers, a bbq for general use, a rec room perfect for having your breakfast or dinner or perhaps a game of cards with friends and has connections for RVs up to 50 amp as well as a dump station.

For the tent camper sites are wide enough to be comfortable to move around and have scattered picnic tables. The tent camping sites are located on a grassy area next to the pond so they are not squished between big rigs and have a bit more privacy.

This site might not look as elaborate as some, but it more than makes up for the few things you do not have by its friendly staff and on site mechanic.

    TIPS:

    • Call in advance if looking for an RV site, they do have several spaces available but during certain times of the year they do fill up as they are centrally located to many things.

    • Check out the LBJ Grasslands which are nearby when visiting this location, a great get away for some outdoor activities.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

    Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

Guide to Savannah

RV parks near Savannah, Texas provide year-round camping access with varied seasonal considerations. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F from June through September, while winter nights can drop below freezing. Most camping facilities in this North Texas region sit at elevations between 600-700 feet, with relatively flat terrain that can become muddy after rainfall.

What to do

Explore local animal encounters: Lone Oak RV Park offers more than just camping with its adjacent ranch featuring unique wildlife. "There are water and electrical hookups in a field that acts as the RV park. It is however across the street from their adorable ranch that has a small zoo, rodeo arena and delicious restaurant. They've got lemurs, a kangaroo, bunnies, a zebra, a camel and all the farm animals!" notes camper Megan R.

Visit nearby towns: Camping near Savannah puts you within easy reach of several communities. When staying at Wagon Master RV Park, "The town of Denton is nearby with plenty of grocery options, shopping, and cute restaurants. Don't miss Thai Square if you love Thai food," recommends Kelsey G. Another visitor suggests, "Eat at Babes in Sanger."

Use recreational facilities: Many RV parks in the area maintain swimming pools and community spaces. At Sugar Hill RV Resort, "The property is very well maintained. Lots of long timers, makes for a quieter vibe," reports Brady J. Summer visitors particularly appreciate pool access during hot Texas months.

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Lake Point RV Resort receives consistent praise for its upkeep. "The bathrooms/showers are very clean. The dog park was perfect for my dog on a hot day!" shares Stephanie P. Another camper adds, "The facilities are superb and the people are great!"

Convenient locations: Northlake Village RV Park offers strategic positioning for various activities. One camper notes it's a "Secluded quiet place near Roanoke and Grapevine," while another mentions it's a "Nice campground near the DFW area and Texas Motor Speedway."

Pet accommodations: Many Savannah-area RV parks welcome pets with dedicated facilities. One camper at Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park noted, "Nice big dog park with a pond, also a grooming and dog wash area." Some parks like Waggin Tail even offer fenced yards at individual sites.

What you should know

Connectivity varies: Internet access differs significantly between parks. At Northlake Village, one visitor reported, "It was disappointing to discover that the FREE WiFi didn't work." Similarly at Lafon's RV Park, a camper noted "The Wi-Fi was not good that would be my only complaint."

Reservation policies differ: Some facilities cater primarily to long-term stays. A visitor to Destiny Dallas RV Resort discovered, "Tried to book a weekend, turns out they are a monthly only park..." Always call ahead to confirm availability for your intended stay duration.

Weather considerations: Summer heat impacts comfort at many sites. At Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park, a long-term camper observed, "Only down side is the Texas heat and none of the sites have any shade trees." Plan accordingly with cooling solutions during summer months.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Several campgrounds offer facilities specifically for children. Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park has "a pool with hot tub, and a small playground for the kids," according to a visitor who stayed for five months.

Consider educational opportunities: Good Shepherd RV Park & Storage provides a quieter setting that some families prefer. "This is a nice, clean place for monthly rentals. Nothing fancy and definitely off the beaten path," notes Jess W., making it suitable for families seeking a more peaceful stay.

Weather preparedness: Texas weather can change rapidly. At Shady Creek RV Park, one camper recalled, "We traveled from West Texas, stayed 4 nights, had rain almost every day." Pack appropriate gear for sudden weather shifts, especially during spring and fall.

Tips from RVers

Site specifications: Most RV parks near Savannah accommodate larger rigs. Lake Point RV Resort features "wide gravel roads and plenty of space between sites," while at Good Shepherd RV Park, a visitor noted, "Wide gravel sites, wide enough to put out the mat and still park the truck next to that."

Check for pet restrictions: Some parks have breed-specific policies. At Destiny Dallas RV Resort, one potential visitor warned, "Everything says 'Pet Friendly', however when we tried to book a spot for a month they said I couldn't bring my Great Dane puppy bc of the breed and insurance."

Road conditions: Access roads vary in quality throughout the region. Some smaller county roads may present challenges for larger motorhomes. During rainy periods, unpaved sections can become difficult to navigate, so check weather forecasts before arrival.
