Site accessibility varies by location, with some campgrounds featuring level, easily accessible sites while others present more challenges. "I didn't see more than a handful of level sites, with varying degrees of slope, but many are quite large. While most facilities provide basic bathrooms and showers, the quality and cleanliness can vary significantly between locations. A visitor mentioned that George Washington State Campground has "a very unique and fun play area for kids. The lake access is excellent, obviously. Pay showers of varying degrees of cleanliness. Open to tents, but clearly preferred by the RV crowd." Cell phone coverage is generally adequate throughout the region, with most campgrounds reporting 3-4 bar service on major carriers.

Brought our camper up for a long weekend and had plenty of room to relax. The campground store was also super handy when we realized we forgot a few things.
Let me just preface this review by saying when I go camping, I like to be immersed in nature– ideally with a toilet and shower nearby. These are my only desires. This is not that kind of campsite. But just because it isn’t for me, that doesn’t mean it won’t be for you.
Pros:
- Easy to book and accommodating staff.
- Restrooms/showers were clean(though the air fresheners are not migraine sufferer-friendly).
- Nice, tall trees.
Cons:
- My only real con is the general vibe. Again, it’s just not for me. It has lots of activities for kids (an arcade, park, pool, etc.), so if that’s what you’re looking for, great! It just wasn’t what I personally was looking for. But with limited camping options in the area, it was our only real choice.
We have been coming here seasonally and its become our little weekend escape. There is always something going on and the kids have made so many friends. Makes it easy to just pack a few things and head out.
Nothing beats a slow morning at the campsite with a cup of coffee. We really enjoyed the trails and just walking around before everyone else was up.
When I arrived, I discovered this site they reserve for me was not level, and the picnic table was blocking access to the electric. When I asked the office for help, I was told maintenance had already left around 4 o’clock, and nobody could help me. I was offered a different side if I wanted to pay the extra price. I managed to wrestle the table out of the way and made it work. But the Wi-Fi was worthless.
Good place to come for Halloween trick-or-treating for kids, lots of activities to keep you busy
We rented a cabin for the weekend and it worked out really well for our family. It was nice having a comfortable place to come back to after being outside all day. The kids loved the pool and exploring around the campground.
If youre looking for a campground where the kids can actually stay busy, this is a good one. Between the playground, pool and other activities, ours didnt have much time to complain lol.
I can understand why this place is rated one of the best campgrounds in the country. This was my first time camping here with my own RV and it did not disappoint. Our site was spacious, and centrally located within the campground, they have all the amenities you can imagine living up to that “resort” title. Ranging from multiple pools, hot tubs, courts, pavilions, playgrounds, etc. the cell service was great, they offer WiFi, and much more. I love the store, it gives off that Great Wolf Lodge feel, and it has everything inside you may need. Including a little hidden café that surprisingly made good lattes. This place is massive, and I’ve never seen a campground that had as many million dollar RV’s in one place. That atmosphere is just great here. There is so much to do. It’s so big you need an e-bike just to get around. Resort-style campgrounds like this come at a steeper price compared to others, but in my opinion, Normandy was well worth the cost. We look forward to revisiting, often!
Campers near Harrisville, Rhode Island can access a diverse range of campgrounds within approximately 20 miles, set amid the region's rolling hills and mixed hardwood forests. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F, making mid-June through mid-September the most comfortable camping period. While many sites are surrounded by second-growth forests, the terrain varies from relatively flat in the eastern campgrounds to more uneven and rocky as you move westward.

Kayaking on quiet waters: West Thompson Lake Campground provides excellent paddling opportunities on its adjacent lake. "We've camped here twice so far and can't wait to be back. This campground is very small and quiet, but the lake and adjoining river offer hours of fun for small craft. Take a long paddle up the river and you'll be escorted by hundreds of bluebirds and cedar waxwings," shares Cynthia K.
Fishing access: George Washington State Campground provides fishing opportunities directly from the campground. "My family and I come here twice a season it's quiet it's calm and never crowded. There's fishing and hiking right in the park," explains Nick S.
Spacious wooded sites: Holiday Acres Campground offers sites with good spacing between neighbors. "Most of the campsites seem to have an open area in the middle between them that allows for maneuvering and socializing," mentions Michael K., highlighting a layout feature that differs from more tightly packed campgrounds in the region.
Swimming areas: Many campers appreciate the water access at Bowdish Lake Camping Area. "We went for a weekend only so we weren't there long but everything was great. The site was very secluded and very large which was awesome! Kids had a blast!" reports Stanley K.
Privacy and tranquility: West Thompson Lake Campground receives high marks for its peaceful setting. "Sites were well spaced and provided some privacy depending on your site choice. Grounds were well kept, bathrooms were very clean with hot showers (bring quarters, $1.50 for 6mins). Staff was friendly and helpful, with park rangers making regular rounds," shares Nick P. about George Washington State Campground.
Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the area have uneven terrain. "Sites are a little too close together. It was very loud. Roads not well maintained and ridiculous amount of speedbumps. Office was about a mile away from the site. Seemed to be geared more toward seasonal camping," notes Rebecca S. about Holiday Acres.
Weather preparedness: The region can experience significant temperature variations in spring and fall. Pack extra layers for evenings when temperatures can drop 20-30 degrees from daytime highs.
Seasonal infrastructure limitations: Sutton Falls Camping Area has varying bathroom quality depending on location. "Cute quiet place with a lake. Family run very friendly. They only thing I didn't love is they remodeled one set of bathrooms in the back and the front was the old set. Swimming safety: Parents should note that not all water bodies in the area are suitable for swimming. "There is swimming at the lake but it looked way too dirty," mentions Ryan A. about George Washington State Campground, highlighting the importance of checking water conditions before planning swimming activities.
Electrical setup: Stateline Campresort & Cabins offers various electrical options but some sites have reported issues. "Be very careful when you hook into their power, make sure you have a surge protector!!! We learned the hard way after staying Memorial day weekend," warns Bruce Y., who reported electrical problems at Holiday Acres.
Site navigation: The narrow roads at some campgrounds present challenges. "The campground is a little tight with a big rig (40' motorhome pulling a vehicle on a dolly). The sites are a decent size and consist mainly of gravel and grass," notes Rick C. about Circle Campground Farm.
Reservation timing: For RVers seeking full-hookup sites, booking well in advance is essential for summer weekends, as these premium sites fill quickly at popular campgrounds like George Washington State Campground and Holiday Acres.
