Located near the Mullica River, just east of where it empties into New Jersey’s Great Bay, the Chestnut Bay RV Campground offers a quiet place to park your rig away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Atlantic City. Bordered by small Chestnut Lake on one side, and the Port Republic Wildlife Management Area on the other, the campground offers nearly 200 full- and partial-hookup sites. Most sites are back-in, open and grassy with picnic tables. There are also tent sites and several fully-equipped cottages available to rent. The campground’s central area has restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities, as well as a clubhouse, adult lounge and small store. A dump station is located near the campground entrance. Dogs are permitted, but must remain leashed. Campsites are $55/night; reservations accepted. We stayed two nights at this park because we wanted to spend a day at Six flags. Check in process was painless and the woman at the front desk was super nice and helpful. Many campers here are seasonal or long term stays and were very quiet and respectful. We had a bad luck of the draw being next to a very loud, inebriated family with unruly dogs but luckily they only were there the one night. Once they left, the atmosphere changed and we really enjoyed our stay. We would camp here again to go to six flags because it was easy to drive back a few minutes after a long day at the park. We had full hookup access with no issues as well.

Our first trip of 2023 was to Country Acres Campground in Gordonville, PA. And what a great campground to start our season! This is a great spot for visiting Pennsylvania Amish of Lancaster County and about a one-hour drive to Hersheypark.
Our site(# 837) was a good size for our motor home+ toad. It was level and covered in gravel, like all sites and roadways within the campground. Our site had full hookups, decent wi-fi, cable TV, a picnic table, fire ring, and nicely kept grassy area between sites.
Becci was super nice at check-in and check-out. They offer a 2:00 pm check-out which we enjoyed. And there are free tickets available for the Amish Farmland Bus Tour. There’s a small, basic tree at the front office. The pool wasn’t yet opened for our stay. They offered a 10% Good Sam discount(which is nice).
Bottom line: We had a great time at Country Acres Campground and can’t wait to go back!

We weren't sure about this campground. We booked through Thousand Trails and you can't reserve sites. Our trailer is 37 feet long, so there is always the concern we won't find any sites will fit in (we actually cancelled the membership for this reason). While we didn't have a problem finding sites, the first night we stayed our neighbors were partying late into the night- not good when we have two young children with us. We moved the next morning and our next site was wonderful- much larger and quieter. The girls loved swimming in the lake and the pool. We were only a short drive from the beach, as well. It was a very nice campground.

Stayed at Site 7. Very spacious and moderately shaded. Nice and flat site. The only issues were the RV “resort” very close by, Very loud music at night from about 8-11. The ticks were out and about. Be prepared! Other than that it was ok.

The staff was accommodating for getting my husband closer to the bath house, but of the three sites available, none of them were good. There was trash in our fire ring and on our site, we were surrounded on all sides by permanent RVs.

There’s a ton of camping at Elk Neck, including a loop with full hook ups. In the full hook up loop pay close attention to the lengths specified. The actual pads are fairly level but some of the driveways to them are very sloped. Long rigs will have issues in a few of the sites.
There’s a camp store, boat ramp, swimming, fishing and lots,of great hiking. Definitely drive to, and then hike to the light house (open most weekends) the light house and the view are definitely worth it.

We met up with the Jersey Gems(FMCA chapter) and attended our first-ever RV rally. This is a great spot for visiting Pennsylvania Amish of Lancaster County and about a one-hour drive to Hersheypark.
We stayed in site#106 which was level, covered in clean gravel, had a paver patio with table and chairs, and a nice fire ring with more chairs. The site was spacious and nicely shaded with tall trees. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service all worked fine.
This is a 5-star campground EXCEPT that there was no wi-fi or cable. It’s 2023 and internet connectivity is important. Also, we had rain one evening and it would have been nice to watch tv or stream a movie.
Bottom line: We enjoyed our time at Lancaster/ New Holland KOA and can’t wait to go back!

RangerWe stayed in the small tent loop at this private, primarily RV resort. First, the good stuff: The tent loop was empty for our 5 night stay with the exception of night 1. We were at site F17.
Bathrooms were cleaned multiple times each day, showers were warm.
There is a laundry facility. It's about $6 to wash and dry a load. There is no change machine that we could find.
If you have kids that are aged 6 and up, they are going to love this place.
Staff were nice and made several trips to the tent loop to make sure all was well.
Electric hookups at every site!
Baby turtles were hatching when we arrived.
And now the stuff we didn't like:
Well, it's an RV resort. The tent loop is crowded, site-wise, and I cannot imagine how packed together you'd be if every site was full.
The signage is almost non-existent. We drove right by the tent loop twice and there are no obvious "Loop A" etc signs. The tent loop is all the way in the back next to the pond.
If you are arriving after office hours, 6pm or so, you have to call to get a gate code. Otherwise, you are locked out.
Everyone has a golf cart and will drive into the tent loop to look at you as if you are a wildebeest and they're on safari.
Parents of small children and toddlers: the tent loop is surrounded by water on 3 sides. There is no safety fence. The water is mostly standing water so expect mosquitoes.
Site F 17 is the lowest point of the tent loop,which won't be a problem unless it rains. Unfortunately, it rained 3 inches one day and I literally dug a trench around the tent to keep it dry. F15 is on the high side and slightly larger site, request it if you can.
On Saturday night, there is a DJ and a dance party from 7-10 pm. It is extraordinarily loud and somewhat impossible to navigate a car through that many people. Plan on staying out of the resort or completely inside if you are up for it.
(I'm sorry for the photos; I didn't have my phone and had to use someone else's phone to take photos. It was also torrentially raining so I didn't venture outside of the canopy!)
RangerI want to start off by saying that I did not camp here. I live close enough though that I thought I would make the drive and check it out since it was not previously reviewed.
This is a run down hotel with "long term" rv campers.
I felt unsafe enough and uncomfortable enough that I never even got out of my car and didn't bother getting photos. I'm actually happy I didn't bring my kids with me to check out this site.
Would avoid at all costs if possible.

Stayed one night in C-loop in the Fall and it was excellent!! Weather was great, the lack of people was perfect, and the facilities were more than comfortable. Sites ranging from level with asphalt and sidewalks to the fire pit to near-natural for that full tent camping experience. Plenty of full hook-ups interspersed with electric only and no services. Something for everyone.
The state park has numerous hiking and biking opportunities and probably some fishing as well. The lake and pool facilities were closed but the scenery was still in full effect.

Nice area to camp. I have a 33 ft Rockwood pull behind. Regular site (not pull through) was snug to park in. Once parked and setup, site was nice with full hook up and fire ring. Very little for children to do. Playground on lowest level of mountain but no pool, ball court, game room, etc. And very snug coming down mountain to leave with a long rig

We wanted a chill-out weekend and are so glad we spent it at Spacious Skies Country Oaks. This was our third visit to this campground and it’s obvious that the current owners are making efforts to spruce it up.
We stayed in pull-thru site#12 which was level, covered in clean gravel, had a concrete patio with picnic table and Adirondack chairs, and a nice fire ring. The site was big enough for our motor home. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service all worked fine.
There’s nothing much to do in the area without driving 45+ minutes away, so make this your destination of you’re looking for a restful time away from home.
The Wi-Fi actually worked great. When was the last time you could actually say that?
Bottom line: We enjoyed our time at Spacious Skies Country Oaks and can’t wait to go back!

LegendFinished the season at this state park in MD with full hook up (20, 30, and 50 amp, water and sewer) and the water was still on in November. Bathhouses were open with hot water. Nice clean bathhouses. Sites were level, spacious, spaced apart, with packed gravel surface. Back in and pull through sites available. Near the state forest with a rifle, archery, and handgun ranges including skeet shooting. In summer there is a beach on the North East River for swimming and the Turkey Point Lighthouse is nearby. The town of North East is close and is a quaint town with a Main Street and great little shops. Woodys famous crab house is there along with other restaurants. Turkey Point Vineyard is nearby. There are views of the Elk River from many sites. Stayed in the North East loop and there are mini cabins available as well.
TravelerStayed on the full hook-up North East loop (incline or decline into some of the sites, well spaced). Cleanest state park bathroom in all of MD! Activities included: the town of North East (15min away), loop hike to the Turkey Point Lighthouse at sunset, and hanging out on the Elk river (fishing/kayaking). At least four play grounds throughout the camp loops. The North East River, where the park’s main beach area is located had failed it’s latest bacteria level test. Check out theswimguide.org for the latest water quality tests. Only 1hr away from Baltimore and you don’t have to cross the Bay Bridge.
GuideNice state park. Tons of campsites. One loop has full hookups. Careful of choosing a site if you have a big rig. The loop has tight turns and some seriously non level sites. Trails are nice and well marked. The pond loop has some amazingly old growth mountain laurels and patches of ghost flowers. The Turkey Point lighthouse hike is popular go early or late to avoid waiting for a parking spot on nice weekends. Swimming and boating on the river are popular activities too.

(There are cabins elsewhere in the park.) We just showed up on a Wednesday in early October but I'm sure you'd need a reservation on a weekend.

The Sites

4 loops: no electricity in A and D, mix of electric and non-electric sites in B, and a mix of full hookups, electric and non-electric sites in C. Loop C is the only loop open all year with no guarantee of access in the winter.
Asphalt pads are all supposed to be 45 feet.
The sites looked level but many of the pads in Loop A were just a bit downhill as you back in. That means our heads are downhill for sleeping unless we turn our teardrop trailer, so we just looked until we found a level site. If you're into leveling a camper, it's not a big deal. We can adjust our back end, but we don't mess around with anything else. It is what it is!
There are water spigots around the loops and recycling/trash disposal and a dump station on your way in/out.

New Restrooms Are Worth Noting

Push button showers. You can't adjust the temperature and you have to keep pushing the button every 30 seconds or so. I guess this saves water.
Two utility sinks outside the restrooms are a good addition.
Pet Owners: Pets are only allowed in loop C.
A Couple Warnings
PA state parks do not allow alcoholic beverages at all. That's what they say.
Hunting is permitted in most of the state park. That would put a real damper on my hiking at certain times of the year because the hiking trails run right through these areas.
GuideMy family and I stayed at French Creek State Park while attending an event in Reading. The park was clean and well maintained. We stayed in Loop A which had no camp host. The camp hosts were in loops B & C. We had a full hook up site. The water and electric worked great! The campground was well patrolled by Rangers throughout our stay. The bathhouses appeared to be clean and maintained. The quiet time starts at 9pm and seemed to be followed by most campers. There are numerous hiking trails in the park that seemed to be well marked and maintained. The park is about 20- mins from Reading, and 10 mins from Birdsbroro. There are many stores and restaurants in the area for food and supplies if needed. We had good cellular service with both AT&T and T-Mobile. The one downside was that there was no off leash dog park. We had to take our dog to a dog park in Birdsbroro. We would stay at this park again.

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting family In Philadelphia. It is a 20 minute ride into Philly and Uber was was quick and responsive.
*note- this does close for winter and reopens in April but call park for exact closure dates because they do change.
This is a nice KOA with full hook ups, tent sites,cabins, and even glamping cabins. There is a pool that is open Memorial Day- Labor Day. They also have a catch and release pond and we found a pickleball court at a nearby city park.
We did Chinatown and walked part of the Schuylkill River trail which we accessed by parking near Fairmount Park. This is a great area to explore with gorgeous views and easy access to the River trail. (There are rentals for everything here- kayaks/bikes etc)
IF we had a car with us- we would have considered taking the ferry from Camden’s Ferry Terminal next to Wiggins Park to Philly. (This is also near the Adventure Aquarium and the battleship New Jersey) Here is a link to information about the ferry-

ScoutPull through sites with full hook up are literally on top of each other with ZERO shade. They do not provide a full size picnic table! If you dare to use the fire ring, you may melt the rig next to you or melt your vehicle. There is no security measures at all. There is one usable bath house with only two shower stales. The campground has very little trees. The office has very limited hours. The farm is literally the owner of the land, so you basically see, hear and SMELL all the farm life. I cannot imagine the smell when they fertilize or in the middle of summer. The farm has roosters that will greet you with their call every morning at 4 AM. They must breed dogs because there is a lot of barking.
LegendWe really don’t care for RV parks but occasionally, we decide to check one out. We found this place because we were looking for a covered bridge that, it turns out, used to be on the property but had been sold and moved! There was nothing wrong, per se, about this family-owned facility, except that we travel in a small camper van (we tend to live OUT of our van, not IN it) so RV facilities generally don’t appeal to us. The sites are very close together, like parking spaces, and afford no privacy between them. This is typical for an RV park. Sites range from 50 amp W/E/S, to 30 amp W/E. Some sites also have cable. WiFi is available and free for the first seven days of your stay. There is also a non-working mill, a pool, a game room, a camp store, and fishing access on the property. The staff person in the office was very friendly and helpful; if you like RV parks and want to explore Amish country in southern Pennsylvania, this would be an ideal location for you to stay but we decided to move on.
RangerCampground Review: French Creek State Park Campground is located in Elverson, Pennsylvania and sits adjacent to Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. There are 200 individual sites in four loops, some with full hookups for RVs, some with electric only but mostly primitive sites. There are also several cottages, cabins and yurts available as well.
For this trip, my husband and I camped alongside our friends, which included three other couples and their children, so we took up two electric sites for the tent campers and two full hook up sites for our friends with RVs. We stayed in Loop C, which is the only dog friendly loop in the campground, on sites 35, 37, 39,& 40. Thankfully, a short walk to the bathroom facilities for us tent campers.
Normally site 35 would have been way too small for our usual gear– a behemoth 9X15 tent- but it was a perfect fit for the tent I was reviewing on this trip. Our friends, who have the same large tent as us, stayed on site 37 and had plenty of space to pitch it, but many of the sites surrounding ours were very rocky and left little option for a larger than normal sized tent so keep this in mind if you have a large family sized tent. I’ve included a few photos of the surrounding sites for future reference. The bath/shower house in this loop was adequate and includes two dish washing stations outside. The showers had good pressure and hot water. It was cleaned often throughout the weekend, however it is definitely in need of an update.
We also checked out the other loops for future use and found Loop A to have very spacious, less rocky sites, however, there was little shrubbery between each site, making them less private than the sites in Loop C.
There are two lakes in French Creek, Hopewell and Scott's Run and each contain many species of fish. We spent Saturday afternoon fishing but not catching anything at Scott's Run. It’s a beautiful location and it was still a fun way to spend the day with the kids away from the site.
We found several places nearby to purchase wood, besides the supermarket and a nursery in town, there are a few residents that sell it right on their front lawn so be on the look-out en route to the park entrance.
Generally, we camp in the off season, and usually have the whole place to ourselves, so I had some concern prior to arrival that every site in every loop was booked for the whole weekend and expected it to be noisy, however, I was pleasantly surprised. It was quiet and our neighbors were respectful of the quiet hours and our space. It was a wonderfully peaceful weekend for us all and we will definitely visit again soon.

Product Review: Wenzel Ivanhoe 6 Tent
As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I am occasionally offered the opportunity to test new outdoor products. For this trip I tested the Wenzel Ivanhoe 6 Tent https://wenzelco.com/ivanhoe-6/.
Generally, my husband and I use a larger ez up tent, but I liked this tent specifically for the design which is reminiscent of the tent my parents used when I was a child and figured it would be a good option for shorter weekend trips, rather than our 9X15 ez-up.
The set up was relatively easy, although one person might have some difficulty. It held up well during an evening thunderstorm, but for a small seam leak near the door. We believe this is a result of the fact that our site was slightly uneven and that particular corner was not as evenly pitched with the other corners of the tent which resulted in a bit of a gap in the roof.
The airflow is great, with the small vent in the rear, two side windows and the full screen door. There are also two smaller vents at the top- though neither seem seem to add that much airflow,- perhaps a design flaw or more likely the uneven ground it was pitched on.
I love the fact that there are awnings over the side windows, but in order for them to be effective one must stake out three guy lines on each side, plus the one on the front and the back. Knowing this I had purchased some small lights to hang on the lines to prevent tripping on them at night and it worked out perfectly.
The front doors are secured closed from wind and rain by velcro strips, rather than the standard ties. There are four side pockets and a handy troubleshooting guide sewn into the interior wall for any issues you experience while in use, such as leaking, condensation, or a faulty zipper.
I am very happy with this tent. For the two of us it was the perfect size for our ten inch high queen size air mattress and some minimal gear. The peak height was just over 6 foot, so we were both able to stand upright without issue.

As for the campground, which is just off Exit 44 of PA Turnpike or Exit 60 & 60A off of I78, you’ll encounter a destination offering up 170 mostly back-in slots with full hook-ups (30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage) for RVs ranging between $55-$49 in the midst of a fairly decent wooded surrounding, although less so on the interior of the campground and moreso on its perimeter. There’s about 18 tent sites ranging between $40-$45 that feature 15 amp electric and running water. All RV and tent sites are relatively flat and include a standard-issued picnic table and in-ground fold-up fire ring. Don’t have an RV, 5th Wheeler or Tent? Not a problem, as the good folks here at Quakerwoods will rent you one of their 4-6 person campers for $120/ night.
The amenities here at Quakerwoods Campground are plenty, inclusive of: 4 Pristine restroom& shower facilities, Wi-Fi service, Free wagon rides(every Saturday), Camp store, Fishing pond, Adult& kid swimming pools, Walking paths, Fishing pond, Game room, Family bingo, Mini golf, Baseball field, Horseshoe pits, Kids Playgrounds, RC track, Front& Back pavilions, Sand Volleyball court, Cornhole, Basketball court, Designated dump stations, water stations, Bonfires, 2 Shuffleboard courts, Ice for sale, Propane refueling station, Laundry-O-Mat, Themed weekends and Pet friendly.
Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) As a tent camper, I was impressed by how Quakerwoods segregates mi tent pitchin’ bredren from the rest of the folks who bring their homes with them on wheels, placing tent sites across the other side of a small creek on the southwestern periphery near the fishing pond; (2) Should you grow weary of trying to conjure up that next meal from the depths of your Cordova roto-molded cooler or from the confines of your onboard mini-fridge, while there’s not a ton of restaurants around these parts, there are a few and they are pretty amazing, including favorites Brick Tavern Inn and The West End, McCoole’s @ The Historic Red Lion Inn and Sage Alley Brewery; (3) In the event that you need to replenish any of your supplies, rest assured as in nearby Quakertown, there’s a Giant & Aldi’s grocery store as well as a local Target, Walmart, TJMaxx, Kohl’s and Link Beverages to stock up on the 21+ liquid refreshment; and (4) Should you be towing your canoe or kayak with you and are eager to get the beak of your waterbird wet, then head on over due east of Quakertown Campground to Nockamixon SP where there’s a sizeable, yet skinny lake just begging for you to navigate it and get some good, hard oaring in.

TravelerNo frills or extras at the campground, but great place to set up camp! This campground has spacious level sites with gravel pads, full hookups, and fire rings. A great location to stay in proximity to lots of Lancaster attractions/activities. Owners were both very helpful and friendly. The campground is currently offering a Coronavirus Camper Stimulus package (see their website for promotions) based on the PA re-opening phases when we went. This made an already affordable campground even more affordable while allowing people the opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy nature.
Some great hiking and biking trails nearby not to mention a nice area to walk in the woods at the top of the campgrounds mountain. We specifically went to two different sections of the Enola Low Grade Trail about 20 & 30 minutes away. Our favorite was along the Susquehanna River in Manor Township.
This isn't a resort, but if you need a place to wind down, have a fire w/ some peace and quiet, and camp this place is nice. Some rundown trailers and an old falling apart house in the campground that take away from it's beauty is the only reason I gave it a 4.
We have a 31' travel trailer and we had Site 62 at top of mountain which we fit into fine. The sites are mostly back-in sites. All the sites at the top were just as awesome!
