Old Cedar Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

A cow pasture runs along one edge of Old Cedar Campground, and reviewers consistently mention it as one of the more unexpected features of a stay here. Sites in the Fence Loop face that pasture directly, giving campers an open sightline toward grazing cattle rather than neighboring rigs. The tradeoff is shade: that row lacks the tree cover found elsewhere on the property, so campers who want more privacy and canopy should request wooded sites, which reviewers describe as tucked into the trees with noticeably more separation.

The campground sits outside Monroeville in Salem County and runs from late April through early October. Management posts and enforces a detailed ruleset, which one reviewer noted feels strict on paper but keeps the grounds orderly and the nights quiet. Matt S. sums it up as "the basic quiet surroundings," and that tone holds across most reviews. Music sometimes plays during the day, but several campers note it stops at lights out without issue.

Fishing draws repeat visitors. The campground has two fishing areas where anglers have caught bass. A pool, described by multiple reviewers as clean and well-maintained, adds another draw for families. Day visitor fees apply for guests, and organized kids' activities run on Saturdays during the season. The on-site store and WiFi, which held up for video streaming in at least one review, round out the practical amenities.

Full hookups are available for RVs up to 50 feet, but campers in the Fence Loop should note that water connections are shared between every other site. Bringing a 75-foot hose or longer is a practical precaution. Tent campers have reported sandy, muddy sites and higher nightly rates, so RV travelers tend to get more value from the setup. Nearby alternatives worth considering include Oldmans Creek Campground to the northwest and Four Seasons Family Campground to the west.

Old Cedar works best for RV campers who want full hookups, a functioning pool, and a low-key atmosphere without resort-style programming.

Nice little spot in the woods

The site is daily small and you are potentially packed in there. However there are few nice spots tucked away in the woods with plenty of privacy.

Friendly

We spent a few weeks here, waiting for school to end so we could take our 6 year old granddaughter back to our home in Florida. We had previously lived in Monroeville so had the opportunity to visit family and friends. The wonderful part was having them visit us - for $8 per day the grandchildren were able to play miniature golf, swim in the pool (they had pool toys to borrow) fish ( and yes they caught bass), every Saturday they had an organized activity for the kids…. EVERYONE was extremely friendly. I will definitely return - best kept secret!!

Family Oriented

Quiet during the week - numerous seasonal campers. Reservation only includes 2 people - it’s 8.00 per day for each additional person. The bath house(s) are centrally located near the camp office. My grandchildren loved visiting us, pool was clean - they had a few items that they could borrow - fishing was great - playground was adequate. Mini golf was fun for all. There was also activities for the younger kids - making slime😉.

Basic and quiet campground

★★★★ Quiet Getaway Weekend

We went to Old Cedar Campground in Monroeville, New Jersey, for a quiet getaway weekend. This is a small and basic campground, not a resort. No fancy amenities. We stayed in Site# 51 in the Fence Loop- a pull-thru with 50-amp, water, and sewer. The hookups seemed to work just fine. The all-grass site just fit our 37’ motor home(see photos).

This was our first stay at this campground— and we’re glad we went. The most unique aspect we found was the cow pasture(see photos). It was a lot of fun watching the cows eating and interacting. I intentionally reserved the site we had to be close. This row of sites lacked the trees for shade and privacy found at most other sites around the campground.

The pool was nice and clean. Wifi worked well enough for us to stream Netflix and YouTube. We didn’t use the shower or laundry facilities.

The website, posted signs, confirmation email, and check-in instructions all included a list of strict rules regarding conduct while on property and everyone seemed to abide by them during our stay. The language seems a bit rude at first, but we all agreed we’d rather stay at a place with hands-on management and compliant campers than deal with noise and unsafe conditions.

Couple of negatives and tips: The water hookups are shared every other site(at least in the Fence Loop). I was lucky my 75’ hose barely reached the distance needed. Be sure to bring extra hoses. There’s no cable TV which wasn’t an issue for us because we have plenty of streaming options. Bring your own entertainment if you’re used to watching TV.

If your travels take you in the area of Salem County, NJ, this place is worth checking out. You might like the cows and the basic quiet surroundings as much as we did!

NOTE: I try to review the places we stay based on what they’re trying to be. Resorts with manicured grounds, water parks, and lots of amenities should be reviewed differently than basic campgrounds in my opinion. Every place starts with 5-stars and loses stars for things I believe could and should be better.

Ok but a bit pricey.

Stayed for 10 days. A bit pricey for what ya get, in my opinion. (We were helping some friends get their house ready to sell and this was the only place that had a spot for the time frame we needed.)

The staff was nice and friendly. The place was well kept. Many spots had trees but we couldn't get one as they stated our rig would not fit... I beg to differ.... probably just a way of getting more $$ from us. Oh well so be it.

Not the best experience

We got there, the host wasn’t very friendly. We had to pay $50 per night for a tent site that was sandy mud. The facilities were nice and they had a pool and some other amenities. Somebody found a snake in there trailer so watch out for those 😂

Nice little place

We were here about 10-15 yrs ago and swore we’d never go back. I’m glad we did. They’ve added a pool and are working on a mini golf area. Nice playground, basketball court, 2 fishing areas. Almost all the seasonals are new(er) campers and even the older ones are well maintained-180° change from the old, dilapidated, junk filled campers from our last visit. We faced the cow pasture so we had a great view. No prob w bugs. Sites r close together but not on top of each other. Overall, a nice quiet place and we will return.

Stopped for the Night

Nice campground. Not close off the highway, but wooden sites. Seems as though people spend their summers there. Pool was beautiful and looked new. Mini golf was decrepit and looked abandoned. Store was nice. Very nice welcome. Lots of kids. A little loud with music but quieted right now at lights out. No complaints.
