State parks and public lands surrounding Mont Clare, Pennsylvania provide several options for tent camping within a short drive. Evansburg State Park Campground, located in nearby Collegeville, offers tent sites with moderate tree cover along a small creek. Fort Washington State Park, about 20 miles east, features walk-in tent sites with picnic tables and fire rings in a shaded environment. For more primitive tent camping experiences, Hibernia County Park in Coatesville (approximately 25 miles west) maintains two small loops specifically designed for tent campers, with the Lake Loop being more open and popular with group tenters.

Most tent campsites in the region feature basic amenities including fire rings and picnic tables, with varying levels of privacy between sites. Ground surfaces range from grassy areas at Hibernia County Park to more compact dirt pads at other locations. Potable water access varies significantly between campgrounds, with some offering spigots near bathroom facilities while others have limited water sources. Campers at Green Lane Park noted that "the only potable water was from a near-broken water fountain at the public restrooms." Hibernia County Park operates primarily on weekends during the May to October season and charges approximately $15 per night for tent sites, with both online reservations and first-come, first-served options available.

Walk-in tent sites at Fort Washington State Park provide a quieter experience than drive-up locations, requiring campers to carry gear a short distance from parking areas. According to reviews, this arrangement reduces vehicle noise and creates a more secluded camping atmosphere. At Hibernia County Park, one camper described the experience as "quiet, heavily wooded" with "nothing to do except walk or bike the beautiful trails." The park's Fiddler's Loop features more defined sites with better privacy than some other local options. Green Lane Park campers reported less privacy between sites, noting that "spaces are right on top of each other with no tree cover between spots." For backcountry tent camping enthusiasts, Boulder Ridge Farm offers walk-in tent sites with more seclusion than established campgrounds.

Washington Crossing State Park - TEMP CLOSED FOR 2024

      Revolutionary History near Delaware River

Nestled along the picturesque Delaware River in beautiful Bucks County, Washington Crossing Historic Park is one of those destinations where American history practically jumps out from behind every tree. This sprawling, beautifully preserved historic park commemorates George Washington's daring Christmas night crossing of the Delaware in 1776, with charming colonial buildings, expansive green spaces, shaded walking paths and lovely riverfront scenery. Divided into Upper and Lower sections, the park offers plenty to explore, from historic homesteads and interpretive exhibits to scenic picnic areas and the impressive Bowman's Hill Tower. Unfortunately, while the park delivers a wonderful outdoor experience, traditional overnight camping isn't part of the equation unless your a Boy Scout or accompanying one of their troops.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spectacular Revolutionary War history at the very site of Washington's legendary Delaware River crossing; (2) Beautifully maintained grounds featuring mature trees, open lawns and scenic riverfront views; (3) Fascinating colonial-era buildings, historic demonstrations and educational exhibits that bring America's founding history to life; (4) Wonderful recreational opportunities, including walking, cycling, fishing, kayaking and picnicking; and (5) Convenient proximity to charming New Hope, the Delaware Canal towpath and Bowman's Hill Tower, offering plenty of opportunities to extend your adventure.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) No conventional public tent or RV camping, with overnight group camping restricted to organized Scout groups by prior arrangement; (2) No dedicated RV campsites, electrical hookups, water connections or dump station; (3) Park grounds generally close at sunset, limiting opportunities to linger into the evening; (4) Some historic buildings and attractions require admission fees or operate on limited schedules; and (5) Periodic restoration projects and special events can restrict access to certain areas, while the historic Washington Crossing Bridge's three-ton weight limit makes it unsuitable for larger RVs.

      Happy Camping!

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Round Valley State Park Campground

Peaceful Wilderness Escape for Adventurous Families

There's something wonderfully special about escaping into nature where the only sounds are rustling leaves, birds singing and the gentle movement of water along the shoreline. Nestled among the wooded hills surrounding the beautiful Round Valley Reservoir, this rustic SP campground offers families a chance to disconnect from everyday distractions and enjoy a little wilderness adventure together. Unlike traditional campgrounds, the campsites are accessible only by hiking or boating, so getting anywhere here requires some planning and a willingness to travel light. Once you've arrived, you'll find secluded, wooded campsites with picnic tables, fire rings and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Amenities are basic, with pit toilets and no showers, but the beautiful reservoir, scenic hiking trails, fishing and kayaking opportunities more than make up for the lack of modern conveniences. Our kids loved exploring the woods, spotting wildlife and gathering around a crackling campfire at night to share stories beneath the stars. For families comfortable with the hike, I'd recommend choosing one of the campsites along the reservoir shoreline for the lovely water views and peaceful surroundings. Just remember that swimming is limited to the park's designated beach area. Round Valley isn't your typical family campground, but for adventurous families who enjoy hiking, camping under the stars and making wonderful memories together, it's a beautiful place to experience nature at its finest!

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

Atsion Family Camp — Wharton State Forest

      Pine Barrens New Jersey

This campground is part of the Wharton State Forest and has several campgrounds in the area. Great wooded sites right on a lake. Pretty good separation between sites with good tree separation between sites. Some road noise not overly affecting site.

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

      Tohickon Family Campground

      Simple, peaceful FHU

We stayed just a couple nights here on our way north. The camp host was helpful before our stay and during check-in. Our site was pretty isolated from the others, so it was very quiet (no complaints here). There is a decent mix of sunny sites by the river and shady sites under the trees. The weather was perfect mid September. There wasn't anything spectacular for me, but it was a good experience and it was a nice taste of fall PA scenery. Beware that the roads are tight for a big rig. Side note, it did seem like most campers lived there.

      Country Acres Campground

      Excellent But.

The campground is in excellent condition. The facilities are top notch. The excellence and care of the campground is evident. The 4 stars is only due to the road noise and many of the sites are on top of each other. You feel like your neighbor is at your camp fire.

      Tohickon Valley County Park

      First time camping

As far as experience it was good. The main issue was the campsite where we were was uneven and caused many of the sleeping arrangements that we had to be not level. This seems to be a specific issue to the group campsite number two as when we went inwards it seemed like everything else was much better.

Boulder features: The natural rock formations at Boulder Ridge Farm provide unique camping spots. "Plenty of fire wood, really cool huge rocks and waking up to owls was awesome," reports a recent visitor. The boulders create natural windbreaks and add character to campsites.

    Tips from RVers

Site limitations for larger vehicles: Most Mont Clare area tent camping sites have restrictions for RVs. At Hibernia County Park, a camper with a 28-foot fifth wheel notes, "though at first glance the sites don't look big enough to house an RV, there are a few sites that will, including #3, #17 & #18 and plenty of sites will fit a small RV or pop up camper."

Water tank preparation: Limited hookups mean preparation is essential. The same RVer advises, "There are NO HOOKUPS, and water is not easy to come by if you are in an RV. If you are coming in an RV, you should come with a full water tank."

Dump station alternatives: Plan for waste management when tent camping with an RV near Mont Clare. "There is NO DUMP STATION. There are a few nearby campgrounds that will let you dump for a fee, otherwise, you'll have to look for a truck stop on the way home," notes an experienced camper at Hibernia County Park.

Site leveling challenges: Expect to adjust your setup at most local campgrounds. One RVer mentions that sites at Hibernia County Park "aren't level, but nothing a little creative positioning can't fix."
