Forested State Park in the Laurel Highlands

August 2020 Stay

We camped for 1 night.  We chose site 102 because it looked decent in the picture and seemed a little apart and more private than other areas.  Unfortunately, it was not great for tent camping as there wasn't really a spot to set up our 4-person tent.  We squeezed it in by the…

Decent

Camp site was a little awkward when tent camping. We stayed in Birch so not sure about the other sites but it seemed better suited for an RV. Our site had hardly any space for a tent if you didn’t want to sleep on rocks it was nice to be near the lake but glad we had a shaded spot. The showers…

Great tent camping!

This is a lovely campground! The spots are spacious and tree covered. Many loops are great for tents (our favorite!) It’s full, but doesn’t feel crowded and the guests were quiet. The RV loop has gravel pads and some have enough room to squeeze in a tent. It’s gravely though so be prepared if…

Nice quiet campground

We stayed for 2 nights while we visited Fallingwater and the Flight 93 Memorial. We should have stayed another night so we could visit Fort Necessity NP just down the road but ran out of time. Park was well kept. Staff working hard getting things ready for the upcoming Memorial Day crush.…

Nice local park

Duman lake review notes.

  • Well-maintained small park, stocked lake, popular with local fisherman. Kayaking/small boat fishing. I’ve seen bald eagle and osprey.
  • Six campsites, w/mature trees, level, w/paved drive & gravel area, large enough for mid-sized RVs. They state 40 ft., but all are…

Rain and Mud

We have a camper van 20 ft long. Our first site was way too short and along a road. Second site was better much more private but very un-level. They limited where you could walk your dogs only on a certain loop. It was pouring rain and mud was everywhere. Deep woods sites.

Fun camp spot of the Gap trail

Free bike-in camp site with water access along the Youghiogheny River. Access from the Allegheny Gap trail. There were a few shelters, nice campsite. It’s close to an old cemetery which is useful in telling ghosts stories around the campfire

Quiet and well maintained

Spent one night here midweek in late May. Most campsites were unoccupied, so very quiet. Site 172 is right along a babbling brook. Showers were hot and free. Everything was very well maintained. The nearby small lake has a large sandy beach and beautiful views. Would have been nice for paddling…

Nice park

This is a nice park, close to home with a lake. We like to picnic and go fishing. There are nice trails, volleyball areas, and playgrounds.

McCollum campground

Very nice campground, the road though smooth the berm drops at roads edge so watch your trailer wheels. Just a couple miles away is Coopers Rock beautiful scenic views. We’ll be back

Awesome

There's a few different areas of the campground. Definetely recommend bringing a boat. Large marina, prepared food is expensive though. Tackle shop and craft days, playground, overall great place

Never disappoints

I’ve been going to coopers rock campground for 25 years and it’s always a clean, pleasant experience. You’re definitely not going to have the privacy that some campgrounds can provide but in terms of facilities, it’s overall a clean and safe experience.

Nice campground, kind of far from trails and attractions

Stayed at the Kentuck campground just outside of the town. The campsites are nice. Adequate room, clean bathrooms, and overall a good campground. For us, it wasn't within hiking distance from the main attractions or hiking trails. The campsite sits on top of a long hill with really no room to walk…

Puts more 'camp" in camping

This is a no frill camp area that actually feels like a campground instead of a resort.  Not great swim areas, but one can jump in the river to cool off.  Lots of bugs...but thats the Mid Atlantic.  It was a good time away from the city.
