      Quiet, Friendly Campground

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Delivered our firewood right to our site. Lots of shade trees, beautiful well groomed trails for walking. Even a dog park, which our Golden Retriever really enjoyed.

      Wonderfully updated!

This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking! We love camping here every chance we get! It is convenient to the turnpike and Cedar Point is just a few miles away!

      Sandusky-Bayshore KOA

      Nice campground

We have stayed here twice and will definitely be back. Both times at the end of September. Nice campground, friendly staff, store is well stocked for anything you may have forgotten. The playground and jump mat for kids is awesome. They usually have some kind of activity for kids on weekends. We travel with 2 large Labrador retrievers and love being able to let them play off leash in the kamp k9 dog park. The sites are a little close together and the train is loud but other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay. Very close to Cedar Point.

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.

The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.

Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.

Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.

The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.

Nice Campground for a Group Event

This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.

If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.

They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.

      Van Buren State Park Campground

      Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

    Guide to Martin

Camping options near Martin, Ohio include a variety of state parks and private facilities along Lake Erie's shoreline. The region features relatively flat terrain with elevations typically between 580-650 feet above sea level. The camping season generally runs April through October, with July and August temperatures averaging highs of 85°F with moderate humidity.

    What to do

Fishing access points: Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides convenient overnight parking with nearby fishing spots. "Although we only stayed one night, we will be back. All concrete roads and pads. Basketball court, sand volleyball, playground, dog run, batting cages and go karts within walking distance," notes Bill B. about the Harbortown RV Resort.

Waterfront activities: Lake Erie offers swimming and boating opportunities at multiple campgrounds. "The park has a rocky beach (shoes NECESSARY) which is actually a nice swimming area if you aren't looking for sand under your feet or blanket. That beach is the only free public place to swim on the island," explains Stephen S. about South Bass Island State Park Campground.

Biking trails: Several campgrounds connect to local trail systems. "There is a bike path that will take you all the way to the Historic Rasin River Battlefield and then to downtown Monroe," writes Frances V. about Sterling State Park Campground.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathhouses. "The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean," notes Julia H. about Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA.

Affordable options: White Star Park offers budget-friendly camping. "This is a little ways off the beaten path but it's worth it, especially for the price. Very clean and green!" says Joseph I.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds in the region have limited operating seasons. "We were told they do close October 31st, however they leave electricity and dump station open for campers to use," explains Never Sitting S.

Weather challenges: Lake Erie can produce strong winds and storms. "It stormed while I was there and the winds got strong, so make sure your tent is sturdy, or choose an in-land campsite," advises Theresa P.

May fly hatches: These seasonal insects can affect camping comfort. "First two nights were perfect but then the may flies hatched (in mid june) and covered everything," reports Kourtney D. about East Harbor State Park Campground.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Several campgrounds offer dedicated facilities for children. "Nice campground with clean bathrooms. Bike and walking trails. Also has a smaller lake good for kayaking and fishing," says Debra B. about Sterling State Park.
