    Crown Cove RV Park

    Unfriendly and Poorly Maintained

This is a very strange place. The vibe is way off. I stayed for 2 weeks and that was 2 weeks too long. The staff are not friendly or helpful. And they use THE RULES as a means to justify their behavior. They will literally yell at you. I have no idea who these people think they are. Don’t waste your hard earned money with people like this. Day One: Huge ant infestation. Spent the next several days exterminating. Not fun. Much of the sites are not well kept. Way out of level. I had requested an open sky for my Starlink connection. It seems like they gave me the only spot with tree cover. There are dozens of other vacant spots with an open view. Weird but okay… They will not accept packages. So, don’t bother ordering anything unless you can pickup at a nearby locker. This is crazy! One day a distraught camper with tears running down her face approached me while I was outside my rig. Turns out her dog died and she needed help moving the body. Maintenance told her they couldn’t help because of THE RULES. I, of course, helped her move the body to her car. This just seems inhuman.

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

Very nice, calm spot and active hosts

For us this was a pleasant little stopover after a long drive. Nicely located next to a lake, there is also a nice little walk partially around the lake. It is a small campground with nice spots. The hosts where active and there if you wanted advice. At the campground you can't swim, but you can walk 10 minutes to a beachy area on the other site of the lake.

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

    VERY Nice campground!!

The camping spots were clean and well kept....some have water and electric hookups and some are more rustic. There are plenty of large spaces for RVs with lots of room around them for privacy. It felt very private even though there were people all around. The bathrooms and showers were amazingly clean and they had a giant heater you can turn on over the showers when it's cold outside! There is a lake with a swimming area that was also well-maintained and clean, it has a boardwalk that goes around a large portion of the lake that connects the campground with the beach are. You can rent kayaks and canoes to take out on the lake, and the fishing is excellent! They also have rental cabins by the swimming area but I've never stayed in one. It is a nice campground, quiet and great for children! I will definitely go back!

    Arrowhead Campground

    Perfect spot

Nicely spaced, shaded, and quiet camp ground. A lot of people camp here with their jeeps, sidexsides, and 4wheelers. The bathrooms and showers aren’t fancy but are clean. There’s a boat ramp right by the entrance. Overall an awesome camp ground!

What to do

Kayaking access points: Badin Lake Campground offers direct lake access for paddlers without traveling to a separate launch area. "We kayaked right from our campsite and didn't experience a lot of motorized traffic," notes one Badin Lake visitor. The lake features numerous fingers and coves ideal for exploration by paddle craft.

Hiking trail options: McDowell Nature Preserve provides trail systems that connect directly to camping areas. "So awesome to have hiking trails that lead right out of the campground," explains a McDowell Nature Preserve visitor. The preserve contains several trail loops ranging from 0.3 to 1.5 miles that traverse wooded areas near Lake Wylie.

Free mini-golf: Cane Creek Park offers complimentary mini-golf for registered campers, providing an activity option during non-swimming seasons. "The mini golf is free and a blast," reports a camper. The course operates daily during regular park hours and doesn't require reservations.

What campers like

Clean shower facilities: McDowell Nature Preserve maintains well-serviced bathroom buildings with hot water showers. A recent visitor noted, "Great restrooms and showers," highlighting this often-overlooked comfort feature. These facilities are cleaned daily and include separate changing areas.

Shade coverage: Many Morrow Mountain State Park sites feature substantial tree cover, creating natural temperature regulation during summer months. "Nice campground with a decent bathhouse. There is no AC in the bathhouses," reports one camper. The campground's natural forest setting provides cooler daytime temperatures during hot weather.

Wildlife viewing: Badin Lake Campground provides opportunities to observe native species in their natural habitat. A camper reports, "I was entertained by two feuding squirrels that chased each other relentlessly and knocking each other out of tree tops. Woodpecker and Turkey wake up calls." The lake environment attracts various waterfowl and woodland creatures, particularly during morning hours.

What you should know

No alcohol policies: Several area campgrounds including Cane Creek Park and Badin Lake Campground enforce strict no-alcohol rules. "Campground has trails and fishing in walking distance. It is always packed. No alcohol permitted," warns a Cane Creek Park visitor. Rangers actively enforce this regulation with potential eviction for violations.

Reservation requirements: Most developed campgrounds fill quickly during peak season, requiring advance planning. A camper at Morrow Mountain State Park noted, "We exhausted ourselves hiking and canoeing and much more stuff to do! Nice sites with electric hookups. Firewood available." Reservations can typically be made 6-12 months in advance.

Site leveling challenges: Several campgrounds in the region have uneven terrain requiring additional equipment for RVs. "Needed more leveling than I had, and I have a lot," notes a visitor to Ebenezer Park. Bringing extra leveling blocks is recommended, particularly for larger RVs.

Tips for camping with families

Beach swimming access: During warmer months, Ebenezer Park offers lake swimming with a designated beach area. "Fun beach within easy walk from campsite!" reports a visitor. The beach typically operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day with no lifeguard supervision.

Halloween events: Some local campgrounds host seasonal activities for children. "We went around Halloween and they had trick-or-treating around the park as well as prizes for the best decorated," notes an Ebenezer Park camper. These events generally require camping registration during the holiday weekend.

Playground facilities: Andrew Jackson State Park maintains play areas for children near camping sites. "The campground is nice to roam with a wonderful playground," reports a visitor. The playground equipment includes standard climbing structures and swings suitable for children ages 2-12.

Tips from RVers

Site selection guidance: Norwood Campground offers spacious RV sites with important considerations for layout. A camper noted, "Vintage without being run down. The owners have done a great job of retaining the 'old school' charm of the place while keeping up with utilities and overall functionality." The campground features both pull-through and back-in sites with varying degrees of privacy.

RV size restrictions: Some campgrounds have limitations for larger vehicles. Andrew Jackson State Park reports, "It is a great campground but tight fit for our 30 foot camper." Sites typically accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, with limited options for larger vehicles.

Full hookup availability: Carowinds Camp Wilderness provides complete RV services including sewer connections. "Sites were clean, level, and reasonably spaced. The campground is very conveniently located in South Charlotte," reports a visitor. Sites include 30/50 amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections at each location.
