Within Cheraw State Park, this seasonal campground sits along the shore of Lake Juniper, operating from May through November. The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism manages approximately 25 sites, most offering water and electric hookups with a maximum RV length of 40 feet. Sites accommodate various camping styles, from drive-in RVs to walk-in tent spots, though the lakefront sites designed for RVs leave limited space for tent campers.
The campground centers around Lake Juniper, a small lake where campers can fish, rent kayaks and canoes, or swim in a designated area on the far side. A boardwalk trail connects the campground to the swimming area and day-use facilities, winding partway around the lake. Sara M. found "spacious sites that feel nicely private surrounded by evergreens," particularly noting the winter appeal of the pine trees. Sites 7 and 8 receive frequent mentions from tent campers for their direct lake access, though the ground can be uneven with exposed tree roots.
The bathhouse currently operates as a unisex facility with three locking stalls and curtained showers while undergoing renovations. Campers can purchase firewood for $6.50 per bundle, ice, and basic supplies at the small office across the lake. A dump station serves RV campers, and the campground host provides assistance and local knowledge. Rino S. noted that "mountain biking and fishing was a blast" during his lakefront stay.
The campground sits about four miles from town, with an IGA grocery store 10 minutes away and a Walmart further out for larger supply runs. Boat rentals operate during peak season, and the park offers both individual sites and a group camping area. Winter visits provide more solitude and lower rates, with some campers reporting stays under $100 for four nights. Reserve lakefront sites early, as they fill quickly during the main camping season.
