Campgrounds near Mauricetown, New Jersey range from state forest tent and RV sites to private facilities with cabin rentals, serving the Delaware Bay area. Top-rated camping near Mauricetown includes options within state forests and private parks, with amenities spanning primitive tent sites, full electric and water hookups, glamping, yurts, and cabin rentals. Belleplain State Forest provides tent and RV sites with varying levels of amenities across three distinct camping areas: North Shore, Miesle, and CCC (the only section with electric and water hookups). Other nearby options include Ocean View Resort Campground and Parvin State Park, both offering tent camping, RV sites, and cabin rentals. The region features a mix of state forest campgrounds and private facilities, with many accommodating both tent and RV camping, while some also offer glamping options, yurts, and cabin rentals.

Seasonal considerations affect campground availability, with many facilities operating primarily from April through October. The CCC section at Belleplain State Forest receives positive reviews for its spacious sites and utilities. "The sites were surprisingly level, large, and spread out. The electric and water service seems to have been upgraded in the recent past, so power was clean and the water pressure was good," noted one visitor. Cell service can be limited in forested areas, particularly at Belleplain where multiple reviewers mentioned poor connectivity across major carriers. Most campgrounds require reservations, especially during summer months when shore-bound travelers often use these areas as bases for day trips to nearby coastal destinations.

The proximity to both forest recreation and Atlantic shore destinations makes these campgrounds appealing for mixed-use vacations. Visitors highlight Lake Nummy in Belleplain State Forest for fishing, kayaking, and swimming opportunities. Campers report generally clean facilities, though bathroom maintenance varies by location and season. Several campgrounds provide convenient access to Atlantic shore towns, with Cape May, Ocean City, and Sea Isle City all within reasonable driving distance. Family-friendly amenities like playgrounds and organized activities are common at the larger established campgrounds. As one camper remarked, "It's a great campground for families tent-camping with young kids" – a sentiment echoed across multiple reviews of the area's camping options.

Large field, basketball couture, frisky golf, play area and laundry room. We were here all summer (June-october). Lots to do in the area. Good food nearby. Ocean city 10 minutes away.

      Ocean View Resort Campground

One of the best campgrounds I have ever stayed in

This is one of the largest, if not the largest, campgrounds in Southern New Jersey. While on the pricier side, everything is top-notch. The roads are all paved, and not gravel (I hate trying to sleep and listening to the sound of stones grating together). The sites are more spacious than most campgrounds, so it doesn't seem so crowded. The bathrooms are all modern and spotless. There are numerous bathrooms which means most sites have one nearby. They do charge a quarter for showers to encourage water conservation and donate the money to conservation causes. The pool is large, as is the lake. Both are well-maintained. The camp store is enormous and is really nice and well-stocked with everything one might need from food to pool and beach stuff to camping supplies and equipment. There is a nice cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The camp store has a lending library of books and DVDs. There are numerous activities that appear to be well-run, The grounds are shaded with many trees for a great wooded campground feel. The campground is so large that it has an internal shuttle with stations scattered about to help people go between the various important sites such as at the pool, the lake and the store. I found other campers, particularly the seasonals, to be more friendly than other campgrounds at the shore. This requires constant tree care including removing dead trees and branches which they do regularly. The staff is friendly and well-trained. I was in a tent, and when a rare October nor'easter came through, I was offered the opportunity to use a cabin free-of-charge. Fortunately my tent and equipment made it through days of rain and high winds just fine . On my first stay in May, I had to run my dog back to Baltimore towards the end of my trip where he was sadly diagnosed with incurable metastatic cancer. When I returned, I was late and unable to check out by 11, but they allowed me to take as much time as needed to clear the site, as nobody was staying there the next day, which was deeply appreciated - I was an emotional wreck. Oh, and I found the complimentary Wi-Fi to be a great service, and sufficiently fast to allow me to stream ultra-high-definition movies at my site - Most campgrounds charge extra for less-than-good service - a lot more. I find that a big bonus. Overall, I LOVE this campground and highly recommend it.

This campground is part of the Wharton State Forest and has several campgrounds in the area. Great wooded sites right on a lake. Pretty good separation between sites with good tree separation between sites. Some road noise not overly affecting site.

      The Depot Travel Park

      Enjoyed my stay

I’ve stayed here multiple times over the past 15 years and I have enjoyed each trip.

Depot Travel Park is a well-maintained family-owned campground. It is also reasonably priced, especially given the location that is within a bicycle ride to the beach, the ocean, and lots of shops and restaurants in Cape May. It is the only campground on the Cape May side of the canal.

Please note that this is not a resort campground and it doesn’t have a pool. There is so much to do in Cape May that is doesn’t need to be a resort.

Since it’s not a resort campground, there are not many golf carts, so most people use their bicycles or cars to get around. That also makes the campground pretty quiet, even during the peak of summer.

The campground sells firewood and propane, but there is no camp store. Again, it doesn’t really need one, since there is a farmers market at the end of the driveway, and a CVS and an ACME supermarket within bicycle riding distance.

If your site doesn’t have a sewer hookup, the dump station is a little awkward to access, but they have a daily honey wagon for a reasonable fee, which is great. If you notify the office the day before you need it and they are usually there in the morning.

They close for the season n October, but they reopen briefly during the Cape May Christmas Parade weekend in December. That’s one thing that I’d like to do soon.

I really like this campground and I am always recommending it to friends.

      Belleplain State Forest

Don’t go unless you want harassment

My check in was for 8-6-2026, and bc I’m a new driver and wanted to beat traffic I got there early (7am) so I sit there waiting till check in time. When suddenly the park police show up. He’s accusing me of camping over night there. I told him simply I wasn’t and where I was night prior (would never sleep somewhere without permission). So we go to the store to kill time before we check in. Come back for Check in and the whole staff in just the office alone were so arrogant and cold to my mom and I, leaving rude comments to us and not only where they like that but the staff outside the office was acting like that alongside the rangers and park police. They would watch us the whole visit in the distance parking there cars a little ways watching everything we did, even driving by slowly a bunch of times in just an hour alone. My mom and I couldn’t do anything with out them showing up 2 mins later. Example we were walking our dog enjoying our time(trying to) and all of a sudden one of the office ladies pulls up right in front of us speeding, parks their car, gets out and walks a distance from us standing there and taking pictures of us…. For walking our dog who’s on a leash and didn’t even do anything. The whole trip we felt uncomfortable and unwanted and to find out they police when we were going on walks where coming up to campers near us bribing them with free firewood to get any information on use (told to us by other camper). I paid a lot of money to be harassed and followed the whole time. We never did anything we abide by every rule and keep to ourselves everywhere we go. They even made my mother cry…

      Beautiful campground, loud campers

Beautiful campground but made the mistake of going on a holiday weekend, the campgrounds next to us were screaming and blasting music all day and throughout the night so we ended up leaving early. A beautiful campground when there aren’t noisy capers ruining it.

    Guide to Mauricetown

Camping sites near Mauricetown, New Jersey provide access to a mix of coastal and forested environments within southern New Jersey's relatively flat terrain. The area sits at approximately 10 feet above sea level with sandy soil that drains quickly after rain. Most campgrounds in this region experience moderate summer humidity with temperatures averaging 85°F during peak camping season from late May through early September.

    What to do

Hiking rail trails: Access the 11-mile rail trail across from Sun Outdoors Cape May for a car-free biking or walking route. "There is an 11 mile rail trail across the street as well," notes one visitor who appreciated the convenient access to paved paths.

Kayaking in Lake Nummy: Rent boats directly at Belleplain State Forest for paddling on calm waters. "The Kayak and Canoe rentals were right near us. The nature center had planned activities for families each day. The swimming lake was beautiful," shared a camper who explored multiple activities within the park.

Visit Cape May breweries: Take a short trip from camping areas to local craft breweries. While staying at Sea Pines, one visitor noted, "If you like craft beer there is a brewery about 2 miles away towards Cape May," making it an easy side trip during your stay.

Crabbing and wildlife viewing: The Delaware Bay area offers excellent opportunities for catching blue crabs and spotting shore birds. A visitor mentioned, "We also left the resort and went crabbing and went to the Cape May zoo," highlighting these popular regional activities.

    What campers like

Spacious sites in CCC section: The CCC section of Belleplain State Forest receives praise for roomier camping spots with utilities. "Good privacy. Check-in went smoothly. Staff at office said all the roads in the CCC section were 2-way," reported one camper who appreciated the space and service.

Recreation activities: Water recreation facilities are a highlight at Ocean View Resort Campground where families find multiple water features. "This campground had it all from a huge pool and unbelievable splash pad to a great swimming pond with a beach! They just completed a new camp store building that has everything," a camper shared about the extensive amenities.

Campground entertainment: Seasonal activities keep campers engaged, especially on weekends. A Mays Landing Resort visitor noted, "Halloween decorations were the best. The playground was great my daughter really enjoyed the scavenger hunt," highlighting the themed events that enhance stays during holidays.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms are frequently mentioned as a positive feature. A camper at Spacious Skies Country Oaks observed, "Our site(#15) was a pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. The site included a concrete patio, picnic table, and fire ring."

    What you should know

Seasonal differences: Many facilities limit operations outside summer months. A visitor to Parvin State Park Campground noted, "Seasonal considerations affect campground availability, with many facilities operating primarily from April through October."

Water quality variations: Some campgrounds have mineral-heavy water systems. "The water has a very high iron content. I couldn't even use it for tooth brushing. Most of the showers were out of order. The toilets were clean but had the orange staining from the iron in the water," a camper at Parvin State Park reported.

Dump station challenges: Limited dump facilities can create congestion at busy times. A Belleplain visitor warned, "The worst was the dump station. It is just a little hole on the side of the road and the ONLY dump station for the 3 campgrounds! It was very unlevel and not easy to fully dump our tanks. It was also Memorial Day weekend and the line at checkout caused us to wait 2 hours to dump!!"

Site selection matters: Not all sites within a campground offer equivalent experiences. A camper at Holly Shores noted, "The front of the park is close to the pool and store- if pool noise is a concern you should stay further back," highlighting the importance of location within larger facilities.

    Tips for camping with families

Water features for children: Ocean City Campground & Beach Cabins offers multiple water recreation options. "This place had a lot to do with kids! Lake, pool, ice cream, arcade, mini golf, mining station, activities. Does get very crowded and definitely have to book a head," shared a visitor who enjoyed the child-friendly amenities.

Playground proximity considerations: Some sites are positioned very close to play areas, affecting noise levels. A visitor to Parvin State Park mentioned, "Site is great for people with families as there was a playground within 50 feet so it is a bit louder and busier," which could be either a convenience or disturbance depending on preferences.

Seasonal program participation: Campground activities vary significantly by season and day of week. A visitor noted, "Despite the shutdowns with Corona, they made every attempt to hold activities every day. You had to sign up for pool slots, but there was plenty of openings," showing how even during restrictions, family programming continued.

Budget for extras: Many campgrounds charge additional fees for amenities beyond basic camping. A visitor pointed out, "There is also a unique payment structure for guests (day pass, night pass after 4pm, or day + overnight are all different prices) and guests cannot come into the campground after 11, so bear that in mind," highlighting the importance of understanding fee structures.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region have uneven sites requiring preparation. At Mays Landing Resort, a camper reported, "Site are very unleveled so the staff switched us to a pull thru space that was a tad bit more level but still very unleveled," suggesting bringing extra leveling blocks.

Access and navigation: Narrow roads and tight turns create challenges for larger rigs. One RVer at Sea Pines noted, "Spots can tight and lots of trees, sometimes making it difficult to get in and out of," while another mentioned, "Some sites are very tough and have some trees that occasionally make it so only a dead perfect backing could get you in."

Electric service quality: Power quality varies between facilities and sometimes within the same campground. A camper mentioned, "The electric and water service seems to have been upgraded in the recent past, so power was clean and the water pressure was good," highlighting the importance of surge protectors when connecting to campground power.

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies widely across the region's camping areas. A camper mentioned, "Virtually NO cell service with AT&T, TMobile or Verizon. AT&T we the better of the 3. Our Winegard/Gateway give us no internet which we normally get. There'd be way too many trees for Starlink," warning those who need to stay connected.
