Cape Henlopen, just 43 miles southeast of Dover, has the distinction of being one of the United States’ first public lands. Recognized for its beauty and natural features, Pennsylvania founder William Penn decreed that the area should be preserved for the enjoyment of the local citizenry. That was nearly 3.5 centuries ago. Over the course of that time, Cape Henlopen has served several purposes but has always remained accessible to the public. In 1964, it was designated a Delaware State Park. Today, the park serves as an idyllic destination where campers, hikers, anglers and nature lovers can explore and appreciate the sand dunes, pine woods and tidal marshes in the same way the Founders did so long ago. The campground in Henlopen State Park is the perfect base to explore the area and enjoy many of the park’s attractions and activities. The campground offers a variety of tent and RV sites (many with 2-point hookups), walk-in tent sites, ADA accessible sites, and camping cabins that can accommodate up to six people. Amenities include bathhouses with showers, dump and recycling stations, a playground and an amphitheater. Camping is available from Mar. 1 through Nov. 30; seasonal campsite rates range from $20–$59/night; camping cabins range from $70–$130/night. When it’s time to play, the sky’s the limit. Four hiking trails are available for exploring the area’s pine forests and coastal dunes, visiting bunkers and watchtowers in the Fort Miles Historic Area, or taking in views of Delaware Bay and the Henlopen Lighthouse. Stop by the Nature Center and learn about some of the local bird and sea life (bird watching guides available), or take advantage of the park’s Borrow-a-Bike program and take a pleasant ride around Cape Henlopen’s bike path. For fun on the water, take a dip in the Atlantic at one of the swimming areas, try crabbing or surf fishing, or rent kayaks and go for an ocean paddle. There’s also disc golf and sports courts available for getting your game on. With so much to see and do at Cape Henlopen, you might just need to plan a longer visit!

    Beachcomber Camping Resort

Beautiful wooded sites, lots to do and unique camping experiences.

Fun for the whole family. Lots to do and the beautiful beaches of Cape May, New Jersey are a short 10 minute drive. The different types of camping/glamping experiences exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed the Deer Crossing Teepee which had far more luxuries than any other glamping I have done. Highly recommend this campground resort.

    Above my expectations!

A beautiful wooded campground close to the beaches of Cape May, New Jersey. Very family oriented and really a great place for adults too. We stayed in a teepee and it is one of the coolest places I have camped. These days I like glamping and this was the best experience yet!

    So far so good

Arrived at 1pm on Wednesday. Check in was smooth. They allowed me to drive around first and pick out a campsite before checking in. They charge $5 extra for a dog. So far it is very quiet and that's what I was looking for. It's just a short drive to the ocean is:Cape May, Ocean City New Jersey.

    Recommended

This place was recommended to us by a friend when we first started camping. We've been back many times since then. It's very close to everything, but you don't even need to leave the campground! There are a ton of activities! Certain areas in the campground are very "buggy" and it can get a little pricey, but it's the best place we've been to in New Jersey so far.

    Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay

    ★★★★★ July 4th Weekend

We spent an extended weekend at Sun Outdoors at Rehoboth Bay(formerly called The Resort at Massey’s Landing). And we had a blast!

Located on Rehoboth Bay, this resort was a great place to spend a long holiday weekend. Our paved site was just a few steps to a private beach which was really nice and clean. The campground included a heated pool with swim-up bar, kids activity pool, camp store, ice cream shop, and restaurant with bar. There’s no reason to ever leave the property!

We found the amenities and facilities were clean and maintained. Our site(# 214) was level and the full hookups all worked fine. This is a dog-friendly resort in all areas except the swimming pools. Daily trash pickup from the site is a great convenience. Even though the place was full for the holiday weekend, the staff handled everything well and always had a friendly greeting (including dog treats for our 4-legged traveller).

We had the opportunity to take the Cape May Lewes Ferry from and back to New Jersey. Driving a motor home onto a boat is an experience by itself. And we were fortunate to have great weather for our entire trip.

This is a great place and we can’t wait to come back!

    THINGS I LIKED:

    • Private beach

    • Clean and well maintained property

    THINGS I’D CHANGE:

    • Slow WiFi and sketchy cable service
    • The sites are really tightly packed without any trees for shade or privacy

    Sea Pirate Campground

    Fun LBI Getaway

We stayed at Sea Pirate Campground in West Creek, New Jersey, for a week in mid-August We’re so glad we did!

Our site (#201) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was easy to pull in and can accommodate larger rigs. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table and fire ring.

The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The heated swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Daily trash collection was a nice convenience. Wifi service was strong and our Verizon cell service worked fine.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground.

Drive time to Long Beach Island ranged between 3-40 minutes each trip we took depending on traffic. There are plenty of stores within a 5-mile drive if you should need anything including Walmart, super markets, convenience stores, and several restaurants.

Our only minor negatives were that the firewood sold in the store was so wet it wouldn’t light and they charge an additional$5 if you want it delivered to your site. And our site was really sandy and dirty which created a bit of a mess, especially after some rain, but it is the Jersey shore.

This is a great campground with a nice pool and good proximity to LBI. We’ll can’t wait to go back!

Atsion Family Camp — Wharton State Forest

    4x4ing in the Pine Barrens

    Atsion Family Campground

Off US 206 and about 1/2 a mile up Atsion Road in New Jersey’s Wharton State Forest, you’ll find the Atsion Family Campground. The facility is run by the Dept of Environmental Protection and offers Tent, Trailer and Group Sites. There are also Cabins for rent as well, but only available during the summer months, After Memorial Day until October. AFC is one of several campgrounds in WSF and is the largest with 50 camping sites. Amenities include a handicapped accessible restroom/shower building, several drinking water spigots, and a waste dump for trailers. There are no electric hook ups and cell service is low, but manageable. Plenty of sun (shady too) so bring your solar powered generators and cell signal boosters if you need to stay connected. AFC is also pet friendly, so bring your 4 legged furry family members, after registering them with the camp site.

The individual sites are spacious with a pic-nick table and fire ring grill. Some sites have lake-side water access, so bring your canoes and kayaks and reserve these sites (4, 8, 10, 12, 20 and 22) early as they are popular. The ground is sandy and relatively level for easy camp set up. Some sites are close to a roadway, so you do get some car noise, and like all unmonitored camp sites, loud, unruly campers can be lurking among the pines. Be sure to get your fire wood from the guy that lives across the street from the campground entrance. 5 bucks, on the honor system, a good amount of wood, open 24/7.

Nearby is the Atsion Recreation Area, which offers fishing, walking, biking and horseback trails, a life guard monitored beach by the lake with restrooms and snacks (Summer Months). Only 15 minutes away, a quick drive, is Batso Village, an old iron and glass community from the late 1700s to early 1900s. NJ State Park Rangers are working hard keeping the area clean, rehabilitated, and educational center allowing you to walk through the old buildings and time as you image what life was like back then. Wharton SF is huge, over 122,000 acres of sandy terrain, towering pine trees, lakes/rivers and off roading trails!! Y’all should come and play in the Pine Barrens

    Ocean View Resort Campground

    ★★★★ Shakedown Trip

We went to Ocean View Resort in New Jersey to kick off the 2022 season in our new Fleetwood Discovery LXE. And we’re glad we did!

This campground is located less than two miles from Exit 17 off the Garden State Parkway. It’s located a short drive from popular shore towns including Avalon, Sea Isle City, Cape May, and Ocean City. We found the park easy to access and navigate.

The check-in process was easy and the front office staff was friendly. I appreciate being expected when stepping up to the front desk.

The most amazing part of our experience was our‘Deluxe 50 Amp Pull Thru’ site# E19. It was HUUUUUUGGGGGGE! See my photos. Our site had full hookups including 50-amp electricity, good water pressure, easily-accessed sewer connection, cable TV with limited channels(some were not clear), and Wi-Fi which was hopelessly slow. Tall trees provided some shade and privacy. The site was covered in gravel and stone, which is great because it didn’t get muddy after the rainstorm we experienced one night. I highly recommend sites E15-E27(E14 slopes too much for my preference). Most sites are seasonal trailers or-park models, but they appeared generally clean and maintained.

The campground, our site, and facilities we visited were clean and well-maintained. Not all facilities were open as the full season begins in a few weeks. The campground store carries a variety of food and drinks, camping and RV supplies, clothing, pool toys, and souvenirs. This came in handy when I needed to replace a damaged sewer hose.

It’s a good sign when it’s difficult to think of negative comments. If I’m being nit-picky, I’d share that the trash and recycling dumpsters were overflowing and unsightly. This could be because it was opening weekend. The firewood they sold was nice and dry, but they don’t deliver it to the sites. This meant I could only purchase what I could carry for my walk back to my site.(I believe offering delivery would be a major convenience for campers and result in increased sales for the campground.)

This was their opening weekend for the 2022 season. While we expected inconveniences or less-than-ideal conditions, we found the place was prepared for the new season and we had no issues. The lake, swimming pool, and cafe hadn’t opened yet, but we’ll be sure to visit those amenities during our next visit later this summer.

THINGS I LIKED: Site was huge and clean with well-maintained full hookups, gravel, and shade trees. Campground is clean and maintained. Store was well-stocked

THINGS I’D CHANGE: No delivery for firewood Slow Wi-Fi Limited working cable TV channels

    Decent Campsite for Tenting

We stayed here because it was within biking distance of the beaches at Stone Harbor, Wildwood, and Cape May. The tent sites were close together and since it was Labor Day weekend it was pretty full. There were a lot of things for kids to do but it was not the kind of camp ground for peace and quiet. Several sites were playing music until 11:00 every night. The bathrooms were a little worse for the wear but the pool looked nice.

    Adventure Bound Campground

WORST experience in 20+ years camping

I have been camping for 20+ years and this was BY FAR the WORST campground I have ever been to. I stayed here for a week with my mother and son. Besides it being absolutely filthy, there were no activities for children and families and the management(T.M.) was extremely unprofessional and rude. The bathrooms were covered in mud, feces and trash. Half the toilets did not work. They said they were supposed to be cleaned at 9am, 2pm and 9pm daily but we were lucky if they got cleaned once a day. Two of the five bathroom stalls had doors that did not close or lock. The fun zone was never opened for the duration of the posted times(10am- 4pm). The slides were dangerous and even injured my child. They were old, stained and had plastic pieces sticking out, leaving scratches on each child that went down them. Rec hall was filthy. Open air conditioner causing a safety hazard on the open floor in there. Most of the vending machines did not work and gumballs were stale in the ones that did. Pools were full of dirt on the bottom and a lot of bugs in the pool at all times. Even the baby pool was just filthy. Laundry room was half out of order and the remaining washers and dryers that did work, were filled with bugs, rust and dirt. I am not even sure how this campground is still in business. It was that bad.

    Very accomodating, friendly staff.

We had a pump out site. They come around every day to pump out your system. One day we got missed, and I spoke to someone in the office. They were there to pump us out (special trip) within the hour. There are also full hookups. It's a nice wooded area much nicer that across the street where it's more like a camping city. This campground is much smaller and very quiet. The pool is nice and very clean. Bathrooms were clean also. It's about a half hour drive to Wildwood, but so worth it. I suggest booking way in advance, they tend to fill up. We love this place and are coming back again this year.

    Beachcomber Camp Grounds

    Go somewhere else

I do not recommend this campground. From overpriced nothing special sites. To super tight streets. No campsite WiFi. Cable does not have any channels. Sites are nothing special. Security will knit pick rules and make new ones as weekend goes on. Changed noise time from 11pm to 1030 on Memorial Day Weekend. Very unhelpful staff. Reservation process is the worst. Don’t know site until you arrive. Nickel and Dime you to death. Charge extra for second vehicle with 3 day minimum (they will not tell you this in the phone. They will surprise you when you arrive). Their seasonal campers with park models will cry and complain with anything and everything you do. And let's not talk about speed limit. Will pick who to yell at for speeding on a golf cart while full size vehicles are flying through. Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else. Plenty of other choices.

Fantastic, family fun in a wooded campground located close to Cape May!

it offers a variety of camping experiences including teepees. A short 10 minute drive to Cape May beaches. Lots of activities at the camping resort and swimming either in one of three pools or a fresh water lake. I totally loved the teepee and exceeded my expectations. Everything was fantastic.

    Love it here

I stayed here last year. no info in bath housed, we showed in our camper. cable TV and wifi work ok. close to beaches. sunset and beaches on either side if ferry terminal jetti are free and no cost to park. they are on the bay so small waves. there's a lake and pool at the campground. staff and fellow campers are friendly. the entrance is unlit at night and sign us hidden by their shrubs if coming from the south. that's my only complaint

Beautiful campground, clean bathrooms, helpful staff

Awesome experience all around. Campground is secure at all times, tent spots were slightly smaller than what we expected but did the job nicely. All staff were helpful and even let us check in early. Very clean and tidy bathrooms. Beautiful campground, definitely going again!

    Nicely Kept

I will preface this review by saying that I did not stay at the campground, I merely took a tour.

My family is always interested in trying new campgrounds.  We usually stay down the road but wanted to check out this campground while we were in the area.  The staff was very friendly and welcoming.  The grounds were well kept.  The pool area looked nice and there were plenty of bathhouses and laundry (both are lacking where we usually stay).

Our RV is on the larger side so we don't feel like this campground would necessarily be a good choice for us since the sites seem a little smaller and the roads are a little tighter.  If you are a master maneuver-er then this wouldn't be a concern for you but as we've only had a handful of trips with this bigger RV we're still shy about tighter spots.
