"I love the area around Jamaica State Park and have stayed a few times! There is plenty of trails in the area and you can go to the waterfall/rock slides and take a dip in the pools," notes Jackie G. Visitors should exercise caution at the falls, as safety concerns exist.
Fishing opportunities: Chapman Acres provides access to pond fishing with complementary equipment at their glamping sites. "A hidden path nearby brings you to a canopy covered swing that overlooks the pond. Another path leads you to the canoe access," according to Kathleen W. Their Bell Tent site includes solar lighting and battery-operated showers.
Local farm visits: Multiple campgrounds are within short drives of local farms. Tree Farm Campground offers on-site blueberry picking during summer months. As Emily H. notes, "It had well-maintained grounds and some cute activities for the younger kids. Even blueberry picking on site."

Wooded privacy: Seven Maples Campground features spacious woodland sites with greater separation than typical campgrounds. "We stayed in the Grove area. Our site 19 was spacious and wooded... The Grove and Hemlock Heights are particularly nice areas with more spacious, wooded and quiet sites," explains Erin M., contrasting these with more crowded central areas.
Clean facilities: Kampfires in Dummerston consistently receives positive reviews for their bathroom cleanliness. "They also have the cleanest and nicest shower you will find in a campground," states Mike B. The campground also features a food truck, store, mini-golf course, and festival space for seasonal events.
River access: Jamaica State Park Campground provides prime waterfront sites. "We managed to get a prime leanto site right on the river. We were only there for an overnight but we will be back. In the Spring the water is released behind Ball Dam, creating a white water adventure," shares M.A.D. P. Riverside sites often fill quickly during summer months.

At Kampfires in Dummerston, one camper reported, "SURPRISE- when I went to hook up the water, a pile of fresh bear scat was right there! They did say there was wildlife in the area!" Tips for camping with families
Playground amenities: Tree Farm Campground provides family-friendly facilities with a cozy indoor lounge. "There's a cozy lounge room to hang out in with games, books, crayons, and puzzles; a dog park with toys included; and fabulous hiking trails with lots to see, including a pond, waterfalls, and streams," reviews Lee A.
Swimming options: Jamaica State Park offers natural swimming areas. "Nice little weekend getaway. Clean bathrooms, roomy tent sites, nice staff. Fun playground and nature area for kids. Very family friendly place with beautiful hikes to Hamilton falls," according to Fransheska A. The park maintains sites from May through Columbus Day.
Kid-friendly activities: Spacious Skies Seven Maples features an extensive pool complex with water slides. "Pool with slides, arcade, playground, events hall," describes J L. Another visitor noted, "The pool is amazing for kids of all ages with water slides and a splash area."
Tips from RVers
Site selection considerations: At Woodmore Family Campground and RV Park, seasonal occupancy affects site availability. "50 percent or more is seasonal camp sites. Sites in back are ok with trees and different levels. Sites are a little closer than I usually find," notes John L. The campground operates from Mother's Day to mid-October.
Electrical systems: Camp Coldbrook Golf & RV Resort has reported electrical issues. "The electrical system has claimed countless rv components and 2 total losses. Instead of fixing it, they simply run generators for years. If you go take every precaution from the electrical. Its dangerous," warns Glenn M. Protective equipment is recommended.
Maneuverability challenges: Several RV parks near Hinsdale have navigation difficulties for larger rigs. At Dorset RV Park, "Larger rigs might want to avoid loop 6-14, especially for sites 8-12. Tree placement and a pretty sharp 110+ degree turn makes it challenging to maneuver," cautions Katie E., who stayed in a 35-foot rig.
