Beautiful and quiet

07 and 08 2024.  We stayed in loop A, the showers and bathrooms are newer in this area and no matter what time of day or night I went, they were clean.  Sites have a good amount of trees and shade, if you need solar, look on Google maps first before picking site.  The parkway to Hamlin may have some shorter underpasses for tall rigs, so pay attention or check ahead if you have a large rig.  The beach is great, and there are several playgrounds for kids.  Never saw the dump stations busy, but then again we didn't go right at check out time either.  Kids will be kids and laugh and play during the day, even though we're retired, we enjoy the sound of happy children.  Come quiet time, it was just that, quiet.  Odds are you will need to level your rig, dirt, stone etc., but that's to be expected, we are camping after all.  All the staff that we came in contact with were pleasant and helpful.  We live relatively near Hamlin and plan on going there several times a year.  Perfect get away.

Un-Happy

I have camped there. If you do camp there do not reserve site A28. There is not enough pad to level a trailer. I could not get the front of my trailer low enough to level. It is a drainage run for the street and nothing but mud when it rains. The site is small and the fire pit is dug in and is flooded with water. There is only enough room to park one car. There was no dry spot to put up a tent. Very unhappy with this site. It needs some TLC.

Is this a spot? Dirty and loud but a nice beach

Big park with several loops.  Separate and across two roads from the Beach section of the Park. Got a reservation for Friday and Saturday but the spot in loop D was an inclined driveway next to the high voltage boxes for the campground.  Had to move the fire ring after smoking ourselves out the first night.  Right across from the building they called a bath house.  Filthy, urinal broken, one shower broken in mens.   Feces on the floor in womens.  Friday night quiet hours did not exist.  Spent Saturday early am listening to the neighbor loudly declare her preferences in music, men and liquor.  No Ranger in sight.

Minor redeeming qualities:  Nice beach and bike trails across road from campground.  Three lane dump station (only one for a four loop campground with 100s of "spots")

Beware:  Rigs approaching from East there are very low bridges (11' 3') between Rochester and the Park on the Parkway.

Big rigs beware!

Really clean sites with lots of trees but you’re still pretty close to your neighbors so not a ton of privacy. Bath houses are beautiful & the beach is lovely! We walked our dogs all along the trails & they played in the water down at the rocky area!!

BUT if you go here in a camper you better be super confident & comfortable maneuvering it. We have a 37 ft fifth wheel & if it wasn’t for how comfortable my husband is then we wouldn’t have gotten into our site. Lots of trees make the sites narrow & tight when backing in! But not impossible if you know what you’re doing.

Nice getaway

We’ve camped at Hamlin beach a few times and enjoyed it. We like the big open space to play kickball or other running games to pass the time by. There’s a few playgrounds for the younger kids to enjoy in camp as well as along the beach. Hopefully the snack bar by the water will be opening up again soon! The camp sites are pretty spacious which gives you a little more privacy from your neighbors. It’s definitely a great place to go for a small getaway.

Secluded

We stayed for 1 night on a Thursday. At&t reception is almost non existent.

On a plus side the park itself is beautiful. Created by the CCC during the new deal. The park is flanked by a nature trail on the. South side and a trail on the north side. The park is big. If you're going to do the trails I recommend a bike.

The trail on the north side is refered to as the devil's nose. Beautiful sunsets can be seen from that vantage point

Our particular site was a little snug getting into but opened up nicely behind the tree line at the road. Overall very nice, roomy, wooded, private sites with a nice beach not too far from the sites

Overall a great experience.

A few things stop me from giving a 5 star review. 1. No water hook ups (that was known before going, but still a con), 2. Facilities are not that clean, 3. Our site (098) was not that private (open to the street and one campsite, partially shielded from the other campsite). There were definitely some sites that looked awesome (like 103) that I’d go back to!

Overall, though, our site was large enough to back in and still have room behind our 25’ trailer. I enjoyed the general feel of being in the woods and then being able to drive a couple minutes to get to the beach access. Area 5 is covered in large rocks, but is a good place to take your dogs!

Newly refurbished

It’s been a long time since my family and I have been camping at HBSP. We (my wife and I) have recently purchased a pull behind RV. This week is our “maiden voyage”. Previous camping trips have been either tent camping or with a pop-up; many, (years ago) here, at Hamlin. So we were a little nervous about all the details and “how-tos” of RV camping. Getting the kinks out has been a challenge but fun at the same time. Moving forward (pun intended), this will be our retirement “home”. So we were pleasantly surprised at our experience here at a somewhat newly refurbished campground. Oh, the layout of all the sites and roadways have remained the same. Mostly, the sites themselves have remained the same: clean, easily accessible, roomy, some secluded. But the reception area and bathrooms have vastly improved. Upon arrival, the staff greeted us very professionally and courteously. At check-in, all of our ID tags and such were ready and waiting for us; it took less than 5 minutes. It could not have been more seamless. We will return to Hamlin. This time, it won’t be so long. Ps. The cellular reception is also greatly improved!!

Beautiful views

Stop by ahead of time to see which site you like. Some sites were small. Some where huge! There were awesome trails from site to site so for us with 3 sites next to each other it was great. The kids literally ran from site to site all day long. Got them nice and tired. Beach was very nice and had a lifeguard. We had to walk but it wasn’t far because the parking lot was closed .

Good Lake Access

Great access to the shores of Lake Ontario from campground. Also few mile stretch of beaches. Short but pretty nature trail through the woods opposite the lake as well that goes through hard words and into wetlands.

Chill

Great place to hangout for a weekend, camp sites are walking distance to the lake. The only thing is the sites are pretty congested so make sure to look at the map before you choose your spot. I recommend site 161 if you can get it.

One word to describe the sites here: SPACIOUS

The sites in the loop we stayed in had about 75’ between driveways, all with varying levels of trees/brush between them, very secluded. The beach is a decent little hike, but very easy flat bike ride or about a minute in a car going 15mph. If you want secluded beaches, skip the public beach and head a little West of Area 4, take the sandy path to the water for an amazing hidden grotto. Sites are electric only but with a 100’ hose you can reach a spigot from most any spot to re-fill the camper.

Great spot

We had an extended family week long camping trip. Our group took up 6 spots and we had a great time. Lots of shade at the sites, bathrooms are decent. Pretty quiet for such a large place. Lots of beach front and sheltered picnic areas. Plenty of parking.

A great campground on a Great Lake

We happened upon this campground during a road trip. We didn't have a reservation and were lucky to get one of the few open sites on a holiday weekend. Free showers. Nice beach for swimming. To top it off, the local Lions Club was hosting a pancake breakfast for all campers.

Great place for camping or beach day!

The camping area is awesome, most sites are very private. Beach was clean and beautiful. Me and my wife had a great weekend! My only complaint is that the bathrooms need more than one toilet, other than that it was a great stay.

Nice place to camp on the way to Niagara Falls or a quick escape from the WNY cities. The park itself is pretty small (swimming & picnic), lots to do nearby though (wineries, Shakespeare Festival, Jell-o Museum). Mixed shade & sun, modern clean facilities.

Great Lakes camping in Western NY

Between Buffalo/Niagara Falls and Rochester on Lake Ontario, this park gives you a rocky and a sandy shoreline with gentle waves to lull you to sleep. Watch the sunrise/sunset over the lake! Excellent birding on site and in nearby Braddock Bay. Green open spaces for kids to play. Lots of activities all year. Easy hiking through the woods, marshes, and along the beach. They do close the beach sometimes for health concerns, check with the rangers.

Very affordable. Bring bugspray and make sure your bug screen on your tent is intact. Quality clean and well-run state park. Tons of campsites. Some shady areas. Hot showers & real toilets. Camp here for a few days and explore the area, it's close to highways but feels like it's in the middle of nowhere.

On beautiful Lake Ontario

I took the family camping to this State Park in the tenting area. The camp sites are a mixture of shade and sun making the experience very enjoyable where you will NOT bake in the sun every daylight hour. It has a beautiful well groomed sandy white beach fully staffed by certified lifeguards. For the boating enthusist there is a well designed boat launch. Not only is there great fishing off the piers into Lake Ontario but there is a pond easily accessed for most to fish for trout, bass, and other fresh water species. During the fall there is a huge salmon run where fish up to 30 lbs are caught regularly. The park itself is clean with many bathrooms with showers are available. Overall we had a great time
