    Canandaigua-Rochester KOA

    Camping near Canandaigua, New York

Campers exploring the Canandaigua area discover a delightful mix of lakeside retreats, wooded state parks, and family-friendly RV resorts. Just minutes from downtown, Canandaigua City Park Campground offers easy access to local shops and the lakefront beach, making it a convenient base for those who want town amenities within walking distance. A short drive farther out leads to Keuka Lake State Park Campground and the privately owned Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, both of which feature spacious sites, clean facilities, and excellent opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and fishing on the Finger Lakes. For those seeking a quieter experience, numerous backcountry and dispersed sites are tucked into the surrounding National Forest, where campers can truly unplug—though it’s essential to bring all necessary supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill and the Stay Bristol Woodlands campground blend rustic charm with modern comforts: well-maintained restrooms, picnic shelters, and on-site hiking trails that wind through hardwood forests and offer scenic overlooks, especially stunning during fall foliage season. Travel logistics are a breeze when visitors prearrange an airport shuttle from Rochester or Syracuse airports, ensuring a smooth transition from plane to campsite. And for adventurers mapping out multiple stops across the Finger Lakes or beyond, reliable multi-city transfers provide comfortable, door-to-door rides—no rental car necessary. With its blend of waterfront sites, wooded hideaways, and nearby attractions—wineries, waterfalls, and historic villages—the Canandaigua region truly has something for every type of camper. Whether pitching a tent under the stars or rolling in with an RV, visitors will find endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    Webster Park

    Close Family Camping

We go to webster park family campground several times a year for the past few years. Usually sometime in early May and in late October with an occasional day or two mid summer. It is a smaller single loop campground with sites for tents/small trailers, larger trailers, and motor homes. He difference is 30a power and no water or sewer, 50a power and water, and 50a power and water/sewer. There is a dump station. The motor home sites are all along the entrance road. The small and large trailer sites are distributed around the loop. Nice central playground and bathroom/shower house. There is hiking in the park, lots of nice woods, big field for playing games/sports. It’s close to town and home for us. We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground. We like site 1 as well. We stay on the outer ring on that side of loop as it gives access to the woods and trails behind the sites. The campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone.

They allow reservations online on the monroe county parks website, and are open May 1st to October 31st.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

An old campsite that fits our needs

This is not a resort campground nor is it a campground built for escapism. It’s very close to Niagara Falls, the Rainbow Bridge (for driving into Canada), and Buffalo, NY.

Mike is very friendly; check in was easy. The sites are full hook up or w/e only. There are pull throughs and back-ins, 30amp and 50amp sites. Your site is assigned once you arrive. You pay a deposit when you book and pay the rest when you arrive.

They have Good Sam and weekly discounts and I was also given a cash/check discount. So our total was $51 a night for a week’s stay.

The sites toward the front are definitely more level and have better cell service, but the sites toward the back are better shaded. Cell service and wifi was enough for me to work during the week and stream at night.

The facilities could use some work. They are very old, and it’s hard to tell if they are clean or just old. Laundry is available - $2.50 a wash/$1.75 a dry.

Basically, don’t expect a beautiful vacation campground. I work full time remotely from the camper. I was able to work during the days and get to Niagara Falls, CAN, and Buffalo quickly after work. Even with the discount, which I’m thankful for, it is overpriced for what it is. But it served my needs, I felt safe, and the owner was friendly so 3 stars. With some TLC to the sites and the facilities, I’d give it 4.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

    Good location

This campground is open year around which is really hard to find in this area. We needed to come here for personal reasons before any other campground was opened. So far this isn’t bad could be better/ cleaner.

It is 50 amp full hook up with free Wi-Fi that doesn’t suck.

The site are paved level back ins and pull throughs

The staff was nice enough. Haven’t had much interaction with him.

There is a great Italian store right across the street and Niagara Falls down the road. I would stay here in a pinch again

    Niagara County Camping Resort

    Niagra County Camping Resort

Arrived late at night to this established site. This is a mixed accommodation campground with established long term residents & short term sites.

Some sites include a table, power access and tire rim for fire-ring. Showers & flushing toilets are near RV sites in back area. Small camp store, swimming pond & fishing pond. Manager, Christine very nice & helpful.

Campground is relatively close to scenic drives along Lake Ontario & Niagra State Park, Niagra Falls.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

Guide to Hamlin

RV campgrounds near Hamlin, New York primarily operate from May through October, with mid-summer representing peak season for this Lake Ontario region. Situated at approximately 300 feet above sea level along the Lake Ontario Plain, the area experiences mild summers with temperatures typically ranging from 65-85°F. Most Hamlin-area campgrounds offer additional amenities beyond basic camping, including mini golf courses, scheduled activities, and access to local attractions.

What to do

Disc golf course: Southwoods RV Resort in Byron features an 18-hole disc golf course among its recreational offerings. "Southwoods is a beautiful campground and accommodates campers of all ages. 2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball. The employees are so helpful and nice!" reports Hope C.

Enjoy canal-side recreation: Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort provides direct access to the historic Erie Canal. "Kayak launches and boat marina nearby. The speed limit is 5 MPH and they mean it.... Kids on bikes and having a good time in the enormous play area and the pool far enough from the campsites but close to the store and watchful eye of the staff," notes Rachel T.

Lake Ontario viewing: While swimming isn't permitted at Lakeside State Park Campground, the park offers scenic lake overlooks and walking paths. "We could easily see Lake Ontario through the trees, and the air was filled with the sound of birds. The space between our site and the next was a bit muddy, but the sites themselves were dry," shares Danielle S.

What campers like

Family-friendly atmosphere: Many RV parks near Hamlin emphasize activities for children. "Family friendly park, lots of activities, park hosts/owners are hands on and awesome," writes Cheryl M. about Southwoods RV Resort. Weekly scheduled events keep younger campers engaged throughout their stay.

Clean facilities: Skyline RV Resort maintains well-kept amenities despite being a busy campground. "Great campground, a little tight if you like to spread out. The map was not correct and we did not have sewer hook up at the sight. The dumping station was free or included. The employees were very friendly," notes Paul G.

Weekend entertainment: Many campgrounds offer scheduled events, particularly on weekends. "During our stay they had a closing weekend pizza and wings party with live music for a small fee," mentions Nancy W. about her Southwoods experience, highlighting the social opportunities available to campers.

What you should know

Seasonal camper concentration: Several RV parks primarily serve long-term seasonal campers. "It was kinda close to other campers. Geared toward more seasonal campers. Covid only allows private campgrounds open so this was nice," notes Eric B. about Red Rock Ponds RV Resort.

Limited cell service: Cell phone coverage can be inconsistent at some parks, particularly those further from Rochester. Reception typically improves near the campground offices or common areas where WiFi boosters are installed.

Varied site quality: Site conditions can differ significantly within the same campground. "We chose a back-in 50-amp full hook-up site (M28) at $42/night. All the utilities were placed appropriately so we didn't need any extensions. The water pressure and electric were good," reports Nancy W. about her Southwoods RV Resort experience.

Tips for camping with families

Speed restrictions benefit children: Campgrounds enforce strict driving speed limits to enhance child safety. "The speed limit is 5 MPH and they mean it.... Kids on bikes and having a good time in the enormous play area," emphasizes Rachel T. about Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort.

Multiple playgrounds: Lei-ti Recreation Resort offers several age-appropriate play areas. "They have many activities like swimming, mini golf, a couple really nice playgrounds, fishing (the kids love getting sunnys and there are bass as well), an arcade, a small gym, etc.," mentions Kristine B.

Weekend population changes: Parks typically become busier and more family-oriented on weekends. "We stayed four nights (which included a weekend) and experienced the park going from half full and quiet to packed with lots of music, all-day fires, and big gatherings," observes Nancy W. about Southwoods RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: At some parks, finding a completely level spot requires patience. "Almost all of the sites are not even close to level. Not a big issue with a fifth wheel but a real hassle with a motorcoach. We changed sites three times and finally resigned ourselves to not being leveled," warns Donna C. about Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort.

Reservation timing matters: Most RV campgrounds near Hamlin require reservations, with weekend spots filling quickly during peak summer months. Midweek stays typically offer more availability and quieter camping experiences.

Big rig accessibility varies: While many parks advertise big-rig friendliness, site dimensions can make maneuvering challenging. "All campsite pads are gravel except for three long pull-thrus that are paved (M24-M26)," notes Nancy W. about Southwoods RV Resort, suggesting these specific sites for larger motorhomes or fifth wheels.
