Best Campgrounds near Churchville, NY

The western New York landscape surrounding Churchville features a mix of state parks, private RV resorts, and family campgrounds within a 30-mile radius. Letchworth State Park, often called the "Grand Canyon of the East," lies about 35 miles south and offers tent sites, RV hookups, and cabins alongside dramatic gorge views and waterfalls. Closer options include Southwoods RV Resort in Byron and Timberline Lake Park in Le Roy, both providing full hookup sites for RVs with seasonal operations from May through October. Hamlin Beach State Park Campground sits along Lake Ontario's shoreline approximately 25 miles north, featuring both tent and RV camping with beach access. Webster Park, managed by Monroe County, provides a quieter camping experience tucked into the woods yet remains conveniently close to Rochester.

Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from early May through mid-October, with advance reservations strongly recommended during summer weekends and holiday periods. State park campgrounds like Hamlin Beach and Letchworth typically open reservation windows 9 months in advance and fill quickly for prime summer dates. As one camper noted, "Letchworth is one of the best parks in New York state and a definite must-see, but this is a popular park so make reservations." Weather considerations include occasional summer thunderstorms and significant temperature variations between day and night, particularly in spring and fall. Many campgrounds enforce quiet hours beginning at 10 PM, and most state parks restrict pets to designated camping loops only.

Campers consistently highlight the natural features near camping areas as major draws. The waterfalls and gorge trails at Letchworth State Park receive particular praise, with one visitor noting, "Not only can you check out the beautiful waterfalls, but there are also many awesome trails, rivers, and caves to explore." Lake Ontario shoreline campgrounds offer sunset views described as "spectacular, particularly at sunset" by reviewers. Site privacy varies considerably across campgrounds, with outer loop sites generally providing more seclusion than interior locations. Families appreciate Webster Park for its "very quiet and very kid-friendly" atmosphere that allows children "to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone." Bathroom facilities range from recently renovated facilities with private shower rooms to older, more basic amenities depending on the specific campground.

    Niagara County Camping Resort

    Niagra County Camping Resort

Arrived late at night to this established site. This is a mixed accommodation campground with established long term residents & short term sites.

Some sites include a table, power access and tire rim for fire-ring. Showers & flushing toilets are near RV sites in back area. Small camp store, swimming pond & fishing pond. Manager, Christine very nice & helpful.

Campground is relatively close to scenic drives along Lake Ontario & Niagra State Park, Niagra Falls.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Inexpensive, Peaceful.

I've stayed here on 3 separate occasions, twice in RV 12 and once in RV 6.

I used the 30 AMP hookup and had zero issues.

Beautiful playground for my son to enjoy and meet other kiddos. Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours.

    Large dumpsters near entrance.

Dump stations are present, but I haven't used them yet.

Potable water is present at a small spigot.

The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station.

Hiking trails with gorgeous views of the valley within a 5 min walk of my campsite.

    Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground

    Kid friendly but Bee Problem

We had a lot of fun here and there’s a lot of activities for kids I would typically give this campsite 5 stars but our only problem was there were bees everywhere. I get some bees are apart of the camping experience and nature but we’ve never ran into this problem elsewhere. They were all over the campground it was very unpleasant and there was a nest under the playground we did advise management of.

    Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

    Relaxing 2 weeks

The camp store is closed along with no firewood and no laundry.

We stayed for 2 weeks and it was so relaxing. We loved biking through the loops and by the beach at the park. There was live music at the park during the week. The campground has an activity room full of things to do. As a state park, there are a lot of different people with different values, so be ready for the occasional obnoxious family. Our site was secluded and in the pines. We love it here and will definitely do this again!

    Stay Bristol Woodlands

    Well maintained and friendly Staff!

Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn’t get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time

    Beaver Meadow Family Campground

    Ridiculous pool rule

The campgrounds are nice. The staff, friendly. Brought our RV so I didn’t see the bathrooms. We had a site that was “lake view” which was funny because it’s a pond. It was stocked so fishing was fun. They have a nice heated pool. My only real issue is the ridiculous two adult pool rule if you are with kids. We spent all day at the rodeo. We came back ready to swim after being in the sun all day. Of course my toddler fell asleep so I stayed with him at the campsite and my husband took our other two kids to the pool. They were able to swim for 15 mins before the other people who were at the pool took off. So it was just my husband and kids left. The lady working in the office came out and told them they had to get out because“there has to be two adults and one has to stay on deck”. Like, what?!? Seriously? That’s the stupidest rule I’ve ever heard. So he gets my very disappointed kids out of the pool and they are just hanging out pool side hoping for basically a stranger to come swim so they can swim. They waited nearly an hour before they got defeated and came back to the camper. Stupid rule. I’ve never seen any campground ever have that rule. If you are that worried about a solo parent taking care of their kids, hire a life guard. Or make that pool rule known prior to booking. My kids had life jackets on and my husband is CPR certified. Literally will never come here again because of this rule. Lame lame LAME.

Guide to Churchville

Churchville's camping options extend beyond the immediate area into the rural countryside of Monroe and Genesee counties. The region sits at approximately 560 feet above sea level in western New York's glacial till plain, with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F during peak camping season. Most campgrounds operate from May through October, closing during winter months when temperatures regularly drop below freezing.

What to do

Fishing at private ponds: Gravel Ponds Fishing Recreation offers a different experience from the more developed state parks. "My mom used to play in a band called boys lie - we used to go to gravel ponds every 4th of July for AMAZING fireworks! And a really cool atmosphere," notes one visitor about this Scottsville location.

Mini-golf with the family: Southwoods RV Resort in Byron includes recreational amenities beyond standard campgrounds. "Southwoods is a beautiful campground and accommodates campers of all ages. 2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball. The employees are so helpful and nice!" writes Hope C.

Hiking woodland trails: The area features several nature paths for different ability levels. "There is a short nature trail through a wooded area," notes one camper about Southwoods, while another mentions Webster Park has "lots of beautiful trails" with varied terrain through forests and open fields.

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Hamlin Beach State Park Campground receives consistent praise for site layout. "The sites in the loop we stayed in had about 75' between driveways, all with varying levels of trees/brush between them, very secluded," explains Benjamin C., highlighting the generous spacing compared to more compact private campgrounds.

Clean facilities: Webster Park maintains high standards for bathrooms and showers. "Camp sites are private and have everything you need for tent camping! Showers and bathrooms clean! Sink available for dishes," reports Catherine, who visited with her son.

Family-friendly atmosphere: Webster Park creates a safe environment for younger campers. "The campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone," notes Scott C., emphasizing the independent play opportunities for children.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. For Letchworth State Park Campground, about 35 miles south of Churchville, "This is a popular park so make reservations," advises Amber A.

Cell phone coverage: Connectivity varies significantly across the region's best places to camp near Churchville. "Cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi," reports Carl C. about Webster Park, important information for those needing to stay connected.

Seasonal operations: Nearly all campgrounds close during winter months. Southwoods RV Resort operates "May 1 to October 31," while Hamlin Beach runs "May 13 to October 16," requiring advance planning for early or late season camping trips.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Position your campsite strategically at family-friendly parks. "We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground," suggests Scott C. about their Webster Park setup.

Water activities: Timberline Lake Park in Le Roy provides water recreation options. "This is a great spot! It's really quiet and you can really feel like you're getting away out here. Their little cabins are really cute and not too expensive too!" says Mariah G., highlighting the affordable accommodation options.

Entertainment options: Some campgrounds offer organized activities. At Southwoods, "We stayed in August and we really enjoyed the setup and location of all the amenities this campground has," notes Rich L., while another camper mentions their "busy events calendar throughout the year with lots of get-togethers."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Genesee Country Campground, different site types accommodate various camping styles. "Nice camp ground, $30/night, quiet, good quick stop over," notes Rachel C., pointing out the value for overnight stays.

Hookup availability: Water access requires planning at some campgrounds. "Sites are electric only but with a 100' hose you can reach a spigot from most any spot to re-fill the camper," advises Benjamin C. about Hamlin Beach State Park Campground.

Amenities check: Compare facilities before booking when considering the best camping near Churchville. "If you want secluded beaches, skip the public beach and head a little West of Area 4, take the sandy path to the water for an amazing hidden grotto," suggests a Hamlin Beach visitor, revealing a less crowded alternative to the main swimming areas.
