Best Campgrounds near Greece, NY

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

State parks and county-managed campgrounds surround Greece, New York, providing a range of camping experiences within a short drive of the city. Hamlin Beach State Park, located approximately 20 miles northwest of Greece along Lake Ontario's shoreline, offers tent and RV sites with electrical hookups and modern amenities. Webster Park, managed by Monroe County and situated about 15 miles northeast of Greece, features a single-loop campground with sites for various camping styles including tent camping, RV parking, and cabin rentals. Letchworth State Park, known locally as the "Grand Canyon of the East," lies about 45 miles south and provides more extensive camping options with multiple loops accommodating tents, RVs, cabins, and glamping setups. Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from May through October.

Most camping facilities near Greece require advance reservations, particularly during summer weekends and holiday periods. The camping season typically runs from early May through late October, with some facilities closing earlier depending on weather conditions. As one camper noted, "Webster Park family campground is very quiet and kid-friendly, allowing children to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone." Lake Ontario influences local weather patterns, creating milder summer temperatures near the shoreline but also bringing occasional strong winds and sudden storms. Bug activity peaks in July and August, with mosquitoes being particularly prevalent near wooded sites and water features. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, though coverage may be spotty in some of the more remote sections of larger parks.

Lake Ontario access represents a significant draw for campers in the region. "Between Buffalo/Niagara Falls and Rochester on Lake Ontario, this park gives you a rocky and sandy shoreline with gentle waves to lull you to sleep," wrote one visitor about Hamlin Beach State Park. Site privacy varies considerably across campgrounds, with some locations offering well-separated, wooded sites while others feature more open layouts. Families frequently mention the abundance of recreational opportunities, including hiking trails, playgrounds, and water activities. Bathroom and shower facilities receive mixed reviews, with newer facilities at parks like Letchworth earning praise while older facilities at some locations are noted as functional but dated. Wildlife sightings commonly include deer, various bird species, and small mammals, adding to the natural experience despite proximity to urban areas.

    Niagara County Camping Resort

    Niagra County Camping Resort

Arrived late at night to this established site. This is a mixed accommodation campground with established long term residents & short term sites.

Some sites include a table, power access and tire rim for fire-ring. Showers & flushing toilets are near RV sites in back area. Small camp store, swimming pond & fishing pond. Manager, Christine very nice & helpful.

Campground is relatively close to scenic drives along Lake Ontario & Niagra State Park, Niagra Falls.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Inexpensive, Peaceful.

I've stayed here on 3 separate occasions, twice in RV 12 and once in RV 6.

I used the 30 AMP hookup and had zero issues.

Beautiful playground for my son to enjoy and meet other kiddos. Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours.

    Large dumpsters near entrance.

Dump stations are present, but I haven't used them yet.

Potable water is present at a small spigot.

The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station.

Hiking trails with gorgeous views of the valley within a 5 min walk of my campsite.

    Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground

    Kid friendly but Bee Problem

We had a lot of fun here and there’s a lot of activities for kids I would typically give this campsite 5 stars but our only problem was there were bees everywhere. I get some bees are apart of the camping experience and nature but we’ve never ran into this problem elsewhere. They were all over the campground it was very unpleasant and there was a nest under the playground we did advise management of.

    Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

    Relaxing 2 weeks

The camp store is closed along with no firewood and no laundry.

We stayed for 2 weeks and it was so relaxing. We loved biking through the loops and by the beach at the park. There was live music at the park during the week. The campground has an activity room full of things to do. As a state park, there are a lot of different people with different values, so be ready for the occasional obnoxious family. Our site was secluded and in the pines. We love it here and will definitely do this again!

    Stay Bristol Woodlands

    Well maintained and friendly Staff!

Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn’t get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time

Guide to Greece

Camping opportunities near Greece, New York range from lakeside sites to woodland retreats within 45 miles of town. The region experiences moderate seasonal changes with summer temperatures typically ranging from 65-82°F. Mosquitoes are most active from June through August, particularly near wetland areas at Webster Park and Hamlin Beach State Park campgrounds.

What to do

Fishing access points: Gravel Ponds Fishing Recreation Camping offers electric hookups for RVs with a stocked fishing area. "My mom used to play in a band called boys lie - we used to go to gravel ponds every 4th of July for AMAZING fireworks! And a really cool atmosphere," notes Briannah W.

Hidden shoreline spots: At Hamlin Beach State Park Campground, campers can find secluded beach areas beyond the main swimming zones. "If you want secluded beaches, skip the public beach and head a little West of Area 4, take the sandy path to the water for an amazing hidden grotto," recommends Benjamin C.

Nature trails: The south side of Hamlin Beach State Park features a dedicated nature trail with wetlands access. "The park is flanked by a nature trail on the south side and a trail on the north side. The park is big. If you're going to do the trails I recommend a bike," suggests Rino S.

What campers like

Wooded seclusion: Webster Park offers heavily wooded sites that provide natural privacy barriers. "This was our first trip here. It was nothing short of perfect. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Camp sites are wooded and private. Very quiet and peaceful," reports Amanda M.

Site spacing: The campsites at Hamlin Beach State Park feature unusually large spacing compared to other area campgrounds. "The sites in the loop we stayed in had about 75' between driveways, all with varying levels of trees/brush between them, very secluded," explains Benjamin C.

Clean facilities: Monroe County Webster Park maintains separate shower facilities from restrooms. "We stayed 6 nights. There was an okay bathroom (a bit run down) and clean, separate hot showers nearby our site," notes Craig J.

What you should know

Seasonal amenities: Some campground facilities close earlier than others at Southwoods RV Resort. "We stayed at Southwoods while visiting the Rochester, NY area. The campground is quite large and has separate sections for seasonal and transient campers," explains Nancy W.

Cell service: Coverage varies significantly across camping sites near Greece, with some locations having poor reception. "We stayed for 1 night on a Thursday. At&t reception is almost non existent," warns Rino S. about Hamlin Beach.

Water hookup sharing: At Monroe County Webster Park, water access points are designed for multiple campsites. "Two-headed water spigots are shared by 2 sites, which worked reasonably well; we were glad we had an extra hose to reach back to our camper," advises Craig J.

Site conditions: After rainfall, some camping areas may experience drainage issues. "There was standing water in the road way. This place really needs to pave the road and provide asphalt RV pads," comments Craig J. about Monroe County Webster Park.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly campground: Big Guys Campground offers multiple activities designed specifically for children. "There is so much to do at this camp! They have a jump pillow, pool arcade, movie room, RC track, and bingo for everyone. Great place to go if you want the kids exhausted at the end of the day!!" recommends Scott H.

Freedom to roam: Webster Park has a loop design conducive to children exploring independently. "The campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone," notes Scott C.

Educational opportunities: Several area campgrounds feature interpretive nature trails. "Short but pretty nature trail through the woods opposite the lake as well that goes through hard woods and into wetlands," describes Erin T. about trails at Hamlin Beach.

Entertainment options: During peak season, Hamlin Beach offers scheduled activities. "We stayed for 2 weeks and it was so relaxing. We loved biking through the loops and by the beach at the park. There was live music at the park during the week," shares Scott H.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup options: Letchworth State Park Campground provides campsites with varying levels of hookups across different camping loops. "The campground, which is about 15 miles from the major falls area, offers what many come to expect from state parks. Most, if not all, campsites offer electrical and water is available close by," explains Shari G.

Parking access: Some campsites have challenging entry points requiring careful navigation. "Our particular site was a little snug getting into but opened up nicely behind the tree line at the road," shares Jason about Hamlin Beach.

Site leveling: The terrain varies across camping areas near Greece. "The sites are large and accommodating. It's clean, and that you have more privacy than other sites I've been to," explains Cedric B. about Monroe County Webster Park.

Reservation recommendations: For larger rigs, specific site selection is important when booking. "All campsite pads are gravel except for three long pull-thrus that are paved(M24-M26)," advises Nancy W. about Southwoods RV Resort.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities do Greek campgrounds typically offer?

Greek campgrounds typically offer essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. Most provide electrical hookups, clean shared bathroom facilities with hot showers, and potable water sources. Many coastal campgrounds include direct beach access and may offer water sports equipment rentals. Communal cooking areas or BBQ facilities are common, though larger sites might have on-site restaurants or mini-markets selling local products. Wi-Fi is increasingly available, especially at more developed sites. Laundry facilities, dishwashing stations, and waste disposal areas are standard at most locations. Premium campgrounds may offer additional amenities like swimming pools, children's playgrounds, sports facilities, and organized activities during high season.

When is the best season for tent camping in Greece?

The ideal season for tent camping in Greece is late spring (May-June) and early fall (September-October) when temperatures are pleasantly warm but not scorching. During these shoulder seasons, you'll enjoy daytime temperatures around 70-85°F (21-29°C) and mild nights perfect for sleeping outdoors. Summer months (July-August) bring intense heat, especially in southern regions, making tents uncomfortable during midday hours, though coastal areas benefit from sea breezes. The shoulder seasons also offer reduced crowds and lower prices at most campgrounds. Winter camping (November-March) is possible in southern regions like Crete but requires proper cold-weather gear as nights can be chilly and rainfall increases significantly. Many smaller campgrounds close during winter months.

Where are the best camping spots in Greece?

Greece offers stunning camping destinations along its coastlines and islands. The Peloponnese region features excellent beachfront camping areas with crystal-clear waters. Camping sites on islands like Crete, Rhodes, and Corfu combine beautiful Mediterranean landscapes with convenient access to beaches and local villages. Many campers enjoy spots in Halkidiki peninsula, known for its pristine beaches and pine forests. Mainland locations near historical sites like Delphi provide unique camping experiences where nature and culture intersect. When choosing a camping spot in Greece, consider proximity to beaches, historical sites, and local amenities. Most popular areas have established campgrounds with basic facilities, though wild camping options exist in more remote regions (though technically restricted in many areas).
