Knob Noster State Park Campground permits pets across all accommodation types including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping options. Located 30 miles northeast of Green Ridge, the park maintains clean facilities with newly renovated bathhouses where pets can stay with their owners during overnight visits. The campground features both primitive sites and electric hookups suitable for pet owners, with accessible paths for dog walking throughout the grounds. Raccoons are frequently active in the area so campers need to secure food and pet supplies overnight. Camping hosts regularly patrol the grounds to ensure safety for all visitors including those with pets. The campground fills quickly on weekends but typically has ample availability during weekdays, making it ideal for pet owners seeking a quieter experience.

Nearby hiking trails provide excellent exercise opportunities for leashed dogs, with several trail systems accessible from the campground area. Pets must remain on leash throughout the park's various walking paths, including those around Lake Buteo where kayak rentals are available. Harry S. Truman State Park, approximately 30 miles south of Green Ridge, offers additional pet-friendly camping at Raccoon Ridge and Buck Ridge campgrounds with electric hookups and water access. The shaded sites provide ample protection from summer heat for pets, though owners should bring sufficient water supplies as hookups are limited to electricity at most sites. Several small lakes in the area allow pets near the shoreline but not in swimming areas. Campers traveling with multiple pets should arrive early for the best site selection as level spots with adequate room for pet containment tend to fill first.

Great Escape RV Park & Campground

      Nice for overnight

Just stopped for one night on our way east. Friendly host checked us in. Nice dog park with bench and shade. All sites are FHU. They offered to move us to a pull thru, but I picked our site based on proximity to the dog park, so I declined the move. We were in site 38, back-in 30 amp. Sites are a bit tight but no one next door so ok. I recommend for a stopover. Less fancy but nicer for dogs imo than Owl Creek which is one exit away. There is a pond for fishing (no license required) and a swimming pool.

      Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

      Great overnight

Easy access to Interstate and pull through sites were long enough for our truck and 32’ trailer without having to unhitch. Stayed just one night as we passed through. Looked like it would be a good place to stay for multiple nights.

Clean campground. Nice grounds. Two good fenced dog parks.

Only negatives were our hookups were literally in the next site next to their table, and their fire ring was very close to our trailer.

      Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

      Ok for a stopover

Stayed one night at the KOA in Oak Grove, just east of Kansas City. The sites were all sunny and since it was 100 degrees, it was hot. But the pool was nice and they had a nice dog park which was ok in the evening after it cooled off. Close to KC so we could drive in for BBQ.

Owl Creek Market and RV Park

      Great Spot

This campground has immaculate ground. All sites are pretty much gravel, but 'new' gravel & level. Pool very clean. Laundry 24/7 CLEAN!! SHOWERS EVEN CLEANER!! They have a Dutch Mkt here as well in front at ck-in that's awesome!! Everything you could imagine. 100 different cheeses even! I'd stay here again for sure. Dog Park; Trash P/U too!

Owl Creek Market and RV Park

      Nice for overnight

Stayed one night while traveling back to the east coast. It is a decent campground. The bath house was clean and showers were hot. Sites are close together. Mine had shade. There is a small dog park at the top of the hill.

I came late and left early, so didn't get to browse the cheese shop, but it looked nice. I would stay here again.

The Great Escape RV and Camp Resort

      Ok, not great

Stopped here for an overnight on our way home to Georgia from Yellowstone. It’s ok for a 1-night stop. I wouldn’t stay more. The sites are level, with long pull-throughs, with full hookups. But there is no shade. Also no store. There is a grill/bar that serves dinner, drinks and appetizers. Pool, playground, dog park, stocked fishing pond, laundry. Bathroom/shower facilities were ok. Several text sites did have shade.

      Turkey Creek RV Park

      Nice Campground! Nice and Quiet!

Turkey Creek was a very nice campground for our month long stay.  The park is well maintained and clean.  It is very quiet!  There is a train track nearby, but we only heard it a few times during our stay.

Amenities included full hook up, laundry room, bathrooms, showers and a fenced dog park where you 4 legged friends can enjoy some off-leash time.  We had 4 bars with AT&T and waffled between 1-3 bars with Verizon.

The location is great for visiting local attractions such as Branson Landing, Silver Dollar City and Top of the Rock.

Really appreciate the park manager, she was friendly and brought an overpayment to our attention and quickly issued a refund.

      Great experience overall!

Owl Creek Market and RV Park

      Nice campground

Nice campground, we stayed in spot 11. It was closest to the highway, so that might bother people but we barely noticed the cars this weekend. The dog park, kid park, and dumpster are next door, so if you are social you will meet plenty of people in this spot. There is a pool, bathrooms, laundry, and a cute little country store here. It appears they are expanding or at least have recently added camping spots, so that's good, but there are plenty We arrived late at night, 9 pm on a Friday, and there was still room for us without a reservation. There was plenty of room to back in the rig, they also have pull through spots if needed. I'd camp here again for sure.

Montrose Missouri Conservation Area Dispersed Camping

      Decent spot

It was quiet. We enjoyed our stay. I read about the black cat that was found there in the other review. It was still there when we camped in late December and quite hungry. Very friendly and needing love. We brought him home with us and he is the most amazing cat. Took a while to get litter trained but I’m glad we opened up our home to him before the bad weather got here. Thanks to this site, we found our new family member! Thanks to whoever posted.

    Guide to Green Ridge

The Green Ridge area offers camping opportunities along the shores of Harry S. Truman Lake, situated at approximately 706 feet elevation. Located in western Missouri, this region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters with occasional freezing conditions. Camping areas near Green Ridge typically provide electric hookups with limited full-service sites, requiring campers to plan accordingly for water access.

    What to do

Kayaking on Lake Buteo: Explore the calm waters at Knob Noster State Park Campground where rentals are available for paddling excursions. "There are a couple of small lakes, one of which has kayak rentals. Several hiking trails. I have stayed here before and never encountered any problems If you want a quiet relaxing campground, this may be for you," notes JoAnn P.

Fishing opportunities: Anglers can try their luck at several lakes in the region, especially at Clearfork Lake. "Clearfork Lake was great for fishing for us!" reports Kelsie L., highlighting the accessible shoreline fishing options within 30 miles of Green Ridge.

Biking on paved roads: The campground roads provide safe cycling routes for all ages. "Knob Noster State Park is a great park for the grandkids to ride their new bikes on the level smooth campground road in safety," explains John J., mentioning the family-friendly terrain.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Sparrowfoot Campground maintains well-kept amenities that receive regular attention. "The shower house is clean and big! The toilets are clean and get cleaned often. I will be back!" shares Lanei S., highlighting the maintenance standards approximately 40 miles southwest of Green Ridge.

Spacious campsites: Sites at many area campgrounds provide ample room between neighbors. Jennifer G. reports about Buck Ridge Campground: "We had enough space not to feel crowded. You could not easily hear your neighbors conversations."

Quiet atmosphere: Many campgrounds in the region offer peaceful settings away from traffic noise. "This campsite was very quiet with little to no traffic sounds. The host was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the spacious camp site and the trees that shaded our site," explains Grace G., describing the tranquil environment that makes Buck Ridge appealing for those seeking solitude.

    What you should know

Wildlife management challenges: Local wildlife, particularly raccoons, can be problematic at several campgrounds. "RRaccoon have taken over the park... About 40 in my camp the whole week making us scared," warns Angela D. about her experience at Knob Noster State Park Campground, suggesting visitors take proper food storage precautions.

Limited hookup options: Most campgrounds offer electric hookups only, requiring planning for water needs. "There is one loop with 50Amp sites but they reserve quickly. Day use of the boat launch is included," explains Landon W. about Thibaut Point, located approximately 30 miles south of Green Ridge.

Variable cell service: Connectivity can be limited at certain campgrounds. "In the A and B loops, very minimal cell service and very little opportunity to stream on the TVs," reports Russ G. about Sparrowfoot Campground, though others note good coverage with specific carriers.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: COE Harry S Truman Reservoir Long Shoal Park offers recreational facilities for children. "Loop B also has the playground which is right behind site B47. It's a newer playground and all equipment was nicely maintained. There are no swings," notes Devin M., though they mention the lack of seating areas for supervising adults.

Beach activities: Several campgrounds feature swimming areas ideal for family outings. "The park offered a brand new shower house this year. Water and sewage dump sites were always available and no waiting. Next to the campgrounds was a nice medium sized lake we took our 3 canoes on with all the kids and grandkids," shares John J. about his family experience at Knob Noster State Park.

Pet-friendly trails: Families camping with dogs can utilize the various walking paths throughout the region. The campgrounds near Green Ridge accommodate pets with designated walking areas and nearby hiking trails where leashes are required, allowing the whole family to explore together.

    Tips from RVers

Leveled parking pads: Raccoon Ridge Campground provides well-maintained sites suitable for recreational vehicles. "Great sites available. We enjoyed Raccoon Ridge at Truman State Park this weekend. Nice dump stations and fresh water," shares Cindy K., noting the convenient amenities for RV campers.

Electric-only considerations: Most campgrounds offer electric hookups without full services. "We didn't reserve a spot and had to take one of the last 'non-electric back in sites as all the many electric sites were already reserved and filled up fast. But, we were ok, as we had onboard water, sewer and DC power for lights, radio, awning, and jacks, we just switched our refrigerator to LP," explains John J., describing adaptations needed for camping without full hookups.

Reservation recommendations: Popular sites fill quickly, especially on weekends. "If you require electrical hookups, it is getting to be more common to plan ahead and submit a reservation in state parks as more and more young people are catching on to the camping experience," advises a camper, suggesting advance planning particularly for pet-friendly camping options near Green Ridge, Missouri.
