Best Glamping near Rumford, ME

This is a glamping campground and so much going on for kidd and adults. The pond is amazing. The store is huge! The sites are huge! We always get the same HHK. But they offer everything from a basic site to cottages. Nightly events for adults kids and family. Kayak/canoe rentals an anzing beach. Guided hikes. If you bring yoyr own kayaks there is a ruver with a take out close to the campground. U could walk back or drive in with a truck for pick up! This place is amazing! Will continue to go every year!

We stayed in the MainelyGlamping Camper Glamper which is a mobile glamping unit for hire. It was Memorial Day Weekend and we had a three night night stay. We loved the campground and it is great for our eight year old daughter who can safely ride her bike around with the other kids at the campground, enjoy the beach and enjoy the playground, but it still provides my husband and I with some relaxing/peaceful time together in the woods or sitting on the beach. We had two paddleboards which are add-ons with the MainelyGlamping package and we spent some time on one of the calm clear mornings paddling around the lake which was amazing.

We did the yurt for 2 nights. Man was it amazing. The north country and wandering back roads to find cool waterfalls and lakes.  Everyone at the campground was super nice, from John the park manager to other campers, spent one night hanging with another yurt group checking out the views from their spot over cold beers. The fire tower at the top allows perfect views of the area

the sites were all very private, the yurt was great, the bathroom was just a pit toilet

I have a love– hate relationship with KOA campgrounds. They tend to be overpriced and not consistent. You will find one that has nice sites at a decent price. Then, there are the others which are complete opposite. This KOA is on my good side.  There are lots of site choices, cabins, yurts, and tent sites to choose from.  The location is good as it is about 10-15 minutes far from the town of Freeport(home to L.L. Bean and tons of outlet stores), the pretty coastal town of South Freeport, four craft breweries and a cidery, and Bradbury Mountain State Park. The owners and work campers are very friendly and the super welcoming. Normally I am not concerned how nice people are but they go out of their way to make sure you get all the discounts you can and put you in a site that you prefer. 

We have stayed here a few times and are always impressed how well-cared for the grounds are and how and clean the common areas, bathrooms, and pool are. The grass is always cut, weeds trimmed, fire pits cleaned and there is no trash lying on the ground. There are lots of seasonal sites but they are in the back portion of the park with the transients being in the front. The park has nice super long 50 amp FHU pull-thrus in the front of the park which will fit any length RV and tow vehicle. Some of these sites are “buddy” sites with a shared patio, but are so wide that even if you don’t know your neighbors, it would not be a bother because you are far enough apart. The only downside to these pull thrus is there is no shade. We tend to be there in cooler months so shade is not a problem. However, the rest of the campground has a very park-like feel with over 50 acres there is plenty of room to roam and even a short nature trail through a wooded area. Many sites backup against the woods or are in wooded areas so keep that in mind when making your reservation. We give this park two thumbs up for their dog park which is ten times the size of the average KOA dog park. My lab had plenty of room to run and chase a ball and there were never any other dogs there which was nice. Plus, it was clean and free of dog poop! Normally, there are plenty of activities like s’mores by the fire, crafts, pony rides (yes, they have their own ponies on site), ice cream social, hay rides but this year they were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We don’t use those amenities anyway so that wasn’t a problem but can see that would be fun activities for kids. We were in a buddy sites with our friends and liked the shared patio. Since we were in the open area, we were able to get both satellite with our roof-mounted dome and some over-the-air channels from Portland which is about 45 minutes away. All of our hook-ups were in an accessible place but we were also in a long pull thru and could position the RV in the site accordingly. 

Some of the cons for this park are the lack of cable, so-so wifi, and the dusty gravel roads and pot holes. There are a few restrooms buildings scattered around the park which may not be close depending on what site you are in.

Here I am, going to ruin it... no, really pretend you didn't read this... The main campground is nice, it has some great group spots, and some close sites, even a few semiprivate ones. After all it is a campground build on an old section on RTE 16.  The campground as others have mentioned is right on the river, and a wonderful river it is.

This is primitive camping, no water, no electrical, but it does have pit toilets and boat rentals and a day use area.

The hidden spots though are totally private and not at the main site but else ware on rte. 16, the ranger told me about them.  They are amazing (I didn't say that)

Access is easy for any vehicle, minimal cell coverage.

They are currently doing a dig and finding some amazing artifacts!

Sebago Lake is a great state park, one of the few in Maine that offers hook-ups (W/E; there is a dump station). Its popularity results in higher rates and demand for resevations. Reservations open up in February a week before other state park campgrounds, with rates higher for non-Maine residents. Site are level and large, some of them along the waterfront. there are trails for walking along the lake and it's easy to launch a kayak. There is also a trailered boat launch. The beach is beautiful! Wonderful place for a family! I was there in autumn, but I imagine when it's busier in the summer, noise may be more of an issue.

Sebago Lake State Park is close to Portland, Maine and neighboring towns. Nice to be close to home so the drive to arrive isn’t so long. Nice scenery and helpful staff. An enjoyable weekend.

Rachel P has given a great review of the individual campsites; i have nothing to add to that! It's a rustic/no frills campground with vault toilets. This area is definitely a great spot to view moose or go fishing. It is also near Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge where you can view moose and loons galore! I've enjoyed kayaking and photography there. 

There are a mixture of sunny and shady sites, most along the river itself. The more open ones are better suited to RV/trailers. Scout out the ones at the very end before you drive down to 42. Kayaks and canoes are available for rental.

Beware! Google will direct you to a closed entrance to the park! If you're coming from Errol, you'll be fine, you'll see the main entrance before the closed one; If you're coming from the south, then continue past the first entrance and you'll reach the main one. i was here in October and it was COLD, so be prepared for all kinds of weather.

So we camped here for 1 night. It was big. Lots and lots of sites. We didn't really spend much time here. The woods in maine are really what its all about. We drove down to frenchmans swimming hole. It was a bit of a drive but it was worth every moment. We saw moose and other wild life. Its was fantastic.

Two lakes is great for families. Has the amenities needed for a fun family filled adventure...if thats what you want to call it.

Spent three nights at Mollidgewock State Park recently. Absolutely beautiful positioning next to a river. Clean sites - many covered in grass with wildflowers which were stunning. Ours had gravel which I ended up being pleased about after finding a tick crawling on our tent. The owner/manager was extremely friendly and helpful. The pit toilet was very clean, well-ventilated, and stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. The main bummer was the proximity to a road -- the road noise was pretty significant (you could also hear ATVs behind the road). I think it would have been less noisy further in the campground (higher-numbered sites) where the river noises were louder. I would definitely recommend a campsite further in (avoid sites #1-5 ish that are directly next to the road - car lights will shine in your tent at night as cars drive in). This wasn't a huge deal, but the sites further down were more private and further from the driveway. 

Errol does not have much in the way of grocery stores and there are apparently two restaurants but we didn't check those out. Excellent outdoor gear/supply store! 

They rent kayaks/canoes on the property which was fun (saw a bald eagle). Awesome hikes nearby - we did Dunn Falls in Maine. 

Overall, great campground but would probably choose a different site next time as I prefer a more private set up.

This is definitely a great area to camp. It’s close to Portland and set on the north end of the lake. The facilities are fairly decent and definitely geared towards families. There are two little beaches attached to the campground which tend to be less busy than the main beaches in the other areas of the park. My biggest recommendation would be to stay on the Naples Beach end of the campground as it’s a bit quieter. We’ve stayed here multiple times as a family and it’s a great location.

Visted this campground for 10 days.  Overall  very good experience.  

Pros: 

- Nice staff! They were very willing to work with our change in plans, and were even willing to call other future campers of our site to accommodate our extension. 

- Site are mostly good, at least what we could visualize.  Some complaints that some sites weren't level, but ours was acceptable.  

- Pool had many visitors, very family friendly. 

- Lots of kids over the weekend, again, family friendly. 

- Wash and Dry were only $1 each!!  That just seems reasonable based on so many campgrounds charging double and triple that. 

Cons: 

- Bathrooms/factilites were main reason for 1 less star.  Women's had extremely weak water flow.  Men's rooms had half the facilities "out of order".  Physical construction weren't amazing, but still ok.  I say this, because the facilities might simply be seen as less than optimal to some.

BF and I wanted a last minute fall weekend getaway in Maine, and ended up at the Augusta-Gardiner KOA. Generally tough to accomplish during leaf-peeping season, but we worked it out. We stayed at site T5, which was wooded but pretty open. Size was decent enough.

Overall, I’d say sites T8, T9, T10 are best if you’re tent camping. While all tent sites are tightly spaced next to one another, these 3 provide the most shade and privacy of the bunch.

Owners are super nice, but the campground could use a little love. Bathrooms and amenities are a little tired. There’s potential though, and some really cute details, like a little fairy house and homemade, bear-carved benches around a KOA-community fire pit, that make the campground endearing. Also, there’s a bunch to do during prime season, particularly for the kiddies- pool, mini-golf, bounce house, playground and space to runaround.
