Evangeline Parish Police Jury Crooked Creek Recreation Area

i like the quiet section all the way in the back

i am a 77 year old disabled  vietnam veteran, my wife is 76 we love visiting people who are camping in the park but its not fun walking because of our disabilities. we have a nice little golf cart that is registered and insured but the 10.00 dollar fee is hard if we stay for 7 or 8 days. surely there something that can be done to reduce the cost or make if free for the disabled veterans and seniors. my info is on your computer. my email is blackieer@gmail.com. would someone please respond to my request? we would love to start campin there again     thanks ennis richard is my name

    White Oak Parish Park Campground

    This place needs 10 stars!

We couldn’t believe that this place is only $12 after we arrived! It is as nice as any experience campground we’ve stayed at! It has 8 pull through sites. Each site has electricity and water. They each have a fire ring, barbecue, garbage can and picnic table. Each site has a nice lawn and there are trees that provide shade. The tent area is tuck off next to the tree line and they have fire rings and barbecue pits as well. It has clean bathrooms and showers and it has a dump station. They have a huge picnic area along with a great park for kids. They provide a dog station with poop bags and trash. This is situated right on the river and is only a short walk for some amazing views. The campground was quiet and clean I would imagine it would be hard to get a spot here during the busy season! Early morning fisherman do come by the camp on their way to the boat launch but the noise didn’t bother us. This is truly a gem of Louisiana and one you should definitely take the time to discover.

    Holbrook Parish Park Campground

    Small, very pleasing campground

Three small loops in the park, one for tenters, and two for RVs. There is a small RV loop located by the boat ramp, and another located by the playground/bath house. We stayed at site 2 near the bath house. The site was far from level, sloping down in the front, but we were able to make it work. The staff were VERY friendly and the grounds well groomed . Fire rings and smoker grills were brand new. There are electric and water hookups but no sewer, a dump station is available on site. We plan to visit again on our return trip home. All at a bargain price. Recommended

    Acadiana Park Campground

    Great location

I stayed here in February 2025 for about 6 nights. It was very convenient and pleasant. Nice walking paths and a really interesting nature center. Not many amenities, but it's clean and quiet. They have a shower house that is not entirely reliable. BUT, still  well worth the time spent there as it's close to so much else in Lafayette itself and the surrounding region. Camping in Louisiana is sparse and very rustic, in general, so finding this well located spot was a huge bonus. I'm planning another stay in 2026. Hopefully the campground host,Jarod, is still there!

Guide to Jennings

Campgrounds near Jennings, Louisiana primarily offer RV accommodations with full hookups, though several also welcome tent campers. The terrain throughout Jefferson Davis Parish is characterized by flat bayou landscapes with elevations rarely exceeding 20 feet above sea level. Many camping options feature waterfront access along lakes and bayous that maintain consistent water levels throughout the year, providing reliable fishing opportunities regardless of seasonal rainfall.

What to do

Fishing access: Several campgrounds provide direct water access for anglers. At Myers Landing and RV Park, campers enjoy lakefront access with boat ramps. "The lakeside is beautiful, we loved the little market right in the front by the lake," notes one visitor.

Casino entertainment: Some campers use the area as a base for casino visits. The Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets connects directly to casino amenities. "They have a 24 hour shuttle that takes to back and forth to casino. That really is all there is to do here as Lake Charles is 44 min away," explains a reviewer.

Bird watching opportunities: The mature pine forests and bayou environments support diverse bird populations. According to a camper at Hidden Pines Campground, the campground features "mature pines" and "lots of birds," making it ideal for casual wildlife observation.

What campers like

Affordable rates: Budget-conscious campers appreciate the value found at several parks. One camper at Lorrain Parish Park Campground shared, "We lucked into the last available site in this 9-site campground. Sat along the bayou on a lovely deck and had a sweet happy hour. Water/electric hookups, dump station and clean showers. For $12! Score!"

Bayou environments: The waterfront settings receive consistent praise. A visitor described Lorrain Parish Park as having a "Great location along Bayou Lacassine, with free public access boat ramp. Very scenic area with cypress trees."

Pool amenities: Several campgrounds feature swimming pools that provide relief during hot summer months. At Hidden Pines Campground, one reviewer highlighted "Full hookups, level gravel sites. Mature pines. Lots of birds. Playground equipment for the kids. Pool."

What you should know

Weather considerations: Louisiana's climate impacts camping comfort significantly. At Hidden Pines Campground, a camper noted, "We chose Hidden Pines for our first trip with new travel trailer due to close to home. Not a lot of campers due to expected heavy rainfall. It did rain, but only one night so had relaxing time outdoors during daytime. Very impressed with Campground - no puddles or standing water with the amount of rain received."

Water quality issues: Some campgrounds have reported water quality concerns. A visitor to Myers Landing mentioned, "The water smelled very badly like metal and we had to turn it off and use our own tank water since it smelled so yucky. Not sure if that's the case on every camp site."

Limited facilities: Smaller campgrounds may offer basic amenities only. A visitor to Mermentau River RV Park stated, "Was power and water for our RV, but no sewer," highlighting the importance of checking available hookups before arrival.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds provide play equipment for children. A visitor to Lake Charles RV Resort by Rjourney simply stated, "The kids enjoyed it," while noting the family-friendly atmosphere.

Swimming options: Look for campgrounds with swimming facilities for summer visits. At Red Shoes RV Park, a camper noted, "The casino side has a lazy river and a swim up bar for adults, also slides," providing recreation for various age groups.

Dog-friendly facilities: Pet owners should seek campgrounds with dedicated pet areas. A reviewer at Red Shoes RV Park mentioned, "Nice dog park for your fur babies to play in," making it suitable for family trips including pets.

Tips from RVers

Hookup arrangements: RV campers should verify hookup locations for convenience. A camper at Cajun Haven RV Park shared, "Turns out that they are trying to clean the park and doing a bunch of upgrades. There is a lot of full time residents but it is quiet and we have had no issues."

Site conditions: Level sites with appropriate surfaces prevent leveling problems. At Lake Charles RV Resort by Rjourney, a visitor appreciated the "paved level sites" and noted, "This isn't a destination town so prices are reasonable and the facilities are in great condition."

Emergency accommodation: Several campgrounds can accommodate last-minute arrivals. At Hidden Pines Campground, a grateful camper shared, "Super nice owners. A tucked away beautiful spot but only 10 min. off I-10. Took us in last minute for 1 night."
