    Maxie's Campground

    Basic and nice

Stayed here with the Passport America discount and paid $23 for a 30 amp FHU site, so roughly double that for the full price. 50 amp is a bit more. Sites are all back in, and on the freeway, so it’s very loud. The website directs you to book your site online, but when we tried to do that, every single site showed as being available, which didn’t seem right to me, so we decided to just drive to the park first. Office was closed when we arrived (owners were at church), so we drove through the park, found an open site, found that site on their website, paid, and pulled in and set up. Owners pulled up to greet us and welcome us when they returned from church so I guess how we did it was fine.

Park is very basic, but nice. Free hot showers, nice laundry room ($4 for wash, $1.50 for dry- expensive but the machines are bigger than normal). There’s also a coke vending machine. Dumpster here but no recycling. Park offers free wifi but my Kaspersky internet security didn’t like something about it (doesn’t usually alert me when I use public wifi), so I just used my cell phone hotspot. Good cell service with ATT and Verizon.

Camp Margaritaville RV Resort Breaux Bridge

    Super fun place to be

Our site was $63 a night for 5 nights & $79 for two nights. We got a weekly rate of $574.16

We were in Site# 2144 The check in was at 12pm and Check out is at 11am.
We had Full hook- up with a concrete pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.

The site was easy to level.

Our site was fairly shaded with one tree. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring.

It is an easy access to the campground from highway -(less than 1 mile from highway).

There is free WiFi. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen but do have quite a few community fire pits.
They sell wood but were out the entire week we were there.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent golf carts. It is beneficial to have a golf cart to get around since it is a large campground. They would not let us use our e-bikes around the campground.

They do have multiple swimming pools including a water playground and splash pad. There is a huge hot tub. We especially loved the 21+pool with swim up bar. Water Amenities are open from March 29th-October 26th. You can also rent poolside cabanas. They have a few smaller ponds for catch & release fishing.

They have a decent general store with some food, accessories, and clothes options.

There is a separate Activity Center for kids. There are tons of scheduled activities for kids like gem mining, tie dying, candle making, candy bar bingo, sand art, etc.

There is a Playground. They also offer pickleball, cornhole, and basketball sport court. There is a Game room for kids. They have a workout room for adults.

There are three bars (one serving food) and a separate concession stand that also serves food.

Right outside of the park is a delicious restaurant/fresh seafood market with a daiquiri drive thru (many flavors).

There is live music on site!

The streets are paved and good for riding bikes. There is not really anywhere to ride bikes outside of campground.

They have multiple RV slip options along with cabins/cottages/villas for rent. Tent camping is not allowed.

They have many shower houses. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a few laundry facilities. They allow you to use cash or credit card. It is approximately $2 to wash and $2to dry a load.

They have a fenced in dog park (Barkaritaville) with a dog wash. It is located in the back far corner of the park.

Bugs were a little bit of an issue and bug spray was definitely needed.

There were no trails to hike in the campground but the park is so huge, it is a great walk within itself.

We shopped at the local market outside of the park and the Piggly Wiggly. We went on the Cajun Food Tour and definitely recommend this (link on CM’s website).

    Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp

Nice RV park. Convenient for canoeing in Bayou Teche.

Poches RV park is nice, well maintained, and has number of amenities. We had a wonderful weekend stay, and the weather was perfect. We canoed in the Shake Your Trail Feather festival on Bayou Teche. The RV park was close the the canoe trailhead. Take the time to explore the city of Breaux Bridge.

Go to Poches Market and buy some pork sausage stuffed with jalapeos. Also, be sure to make a reservation and go eat at Little Big Cup in Arnaudville about 15 minutes away.

Stayed in campsite#69. Back-in site with concrete parking, picnic table, and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water, and sewer hookups. It has a nice grass area with fire pit in the rear of the site next to the lake. Not much shade in the campsite. The site is located on the lake. Neighbors were pretty close. Roads in the park were asphalt or gravel. The free WiFi throughout the park was adequate for checking emails, surfing the web, etc. We camped in a Travel Trailer. Would stay here again. We camped at Poche's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Frog City RV Park

    Clean and spacious

Pool and hot tub, laundry, showers, fishing, free wifi. The dog area is large and has a place to wash your dog. Plenty of trees for shade and they accommodate 30 and 50 amp electric with water and sewer. There is also a dump station. Nice play ground for children. Beautiful walking/biking trail around the large pond.

South Campground — Chicot State Park

    Great State Park

Chicot State Park is wonderful and well maintained. We had a wonderful weekend stay, and the weather was perfect. Take the time to drive around to the East Landing in the evening before sunset. It has one of the prettiest views of Chicot Lake. Also drive down to the South Fishing Pier below the South Campground. It has a long pier that goes out into the lake. My son spent a lot of time at the splash pad. Be sure to visit the free La. State Arboretum onsite. It has a great visitor center with some fantastic exhibits and nice hiking trails.

Stayed in campsite#84. It has a nice deck with picnic table. BBQ grill and fire pit are on the other side of the RV spot. Even though it is in the front, it is actually quite secluded with woods all around. Nearest neighbor was at least 40-50 ft. Away. My son could easily walk or ride his bike to the splash pad. Both AT&T and Verizon had poor signal(1 bar each). Was able to connect to the free park Wi-Fi. It was slow, but I could send text messages and make the occasional phone call. Wasn't a big deal, because I came here to camp and get unplugged. We camped at Chicot State Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Lakeview Park

    PRETTY, BUT NOISY

Don't get me wrong, I am not antisocial, but when I go camping I really want the natural quiet of nature. It was pretty busy, with many people gathered and partying. Kids driving crazy on golf carts. Otherwise, the property is pretty. The sites are easily accessible (our camper is approximately 30 ft). The showers were not available d/t covid 19, but were there. Our site 12 was level and had full hookups. Pet friendly. Large trees. Store on site and snack shop near the beach. Very kid friendly.

Camp Margaritaville RV Resort Breaux Bridge

    Peaceful & Clean

Let’s start that COVID sucks, a lot is closed due to the CVD but it’s also a holiday week I will add as we celebrate the New Year. During the week it is quiet, and pretty empty. Pet friendly, decent space between spots, all 30/50A cable sewer water hookups.

Guide to Lafayette

RV camping near Lafayette, Louisiana offers travelers level sites with full hookup access throughout the Acadiana region. Located in Louisiana's southwestern prairie, most campgrounds sit at elevations between 30-50 feet above sea level. Heavy rainfall can occur year-round with annual precipitation averaging 60 inches, making drainage an important consideration when selecting sites in this flat terrain.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Catfish Heaven Aqua Farm & RV Park maintains stocked ponds that campers can use during their stay. "Done a lot of fishing out here since I was a child- great place to take kids, lots of fun!" notes Lauren G. The park charges for caught fish and doesn't allow catch and release.

Sports tournaments: Acadian Oasis RV Park provides convenient lodging for teams and families attending events at nearby complexes. "We visited for a softball tournament and the location is perfect, less than a mile from the complex. There is a small fishing pond so bring a pole. My husband caught a bass," reports Tiffany M.

Cultural exploration: Visit local Cajun sites within short drives of RV parks in Lafayette Parish. "We visited the Tabasco factory on Avery island, took a swamp boat ride in Breaux Bridge, the Acadian and African American History Museums in St. Martinville, and Lafayette, all within a 30 minute drive of the campground," shares Doug C. about his stay at Parkside RV Park.

What campers like

Pool amenities: Camp Margaritaville RV Resort Breaux Bridge provides multiple swimming options. "How can you hate 3 pools with swim up bars, a giant hot tub and a well manicured park? Park really opens April 1 but we needed a taste of summer and we found it here," writes Mark S. The resort also features weekend entertainment for adults after swimming hours.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention bathroom cleanliness as a priority. "The bathhouses were clean, the showers reasonably hot, and the wifi was strong," reports Doug C. about Parkside RV Park's amenities. Most parks offer private shower stalls rather than communal shower areas.

Connectivity: Bayou Wilderness RV Campground provides reliable internet access. "The WiFi was good and folks were really helpful. The store had propane and ice which was great," mentions Jill. Cell service typically remains strong throughout the Lafayette area for both Verizon and AT&T customers.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Louisiana's subtropical climate means high humidity throughout summer months. Winter travelers appreciate milder temperatures, though occasional cold fronts can drop overnight lows into the 30s between December and February.

Reservation timing: Frog City RV Park offers convenient online booking. "Lanes are labeled clearly, so our spot was super easy to find after hrs. Clean and spacious pull-thru," reports Tonya B. Cancellation policies vary between parks, with some converting refunds to future stay credits.

Site spacing: Many parks feature concrete pads but limited privacy between sites. "Our 26' camper and Ford 150 truck fit in the spot without any extra space," notes Jackie H. about Camp Margaritaville. Site width averages 20-25 feet at most parks in the region.

Tips for camping with families

Pool safety rules: Parks with swimming facilities maintain strict policies. "We didn't realize a section of the pool was 21 and over and an armed security guard shined his flashlight in my eyes to get my attention, to tell my son to move 2 feet on the other side of the rope," warns Jackie H. about Camp Margaritaville's adult areas.

Playground conditions: Some campgrounds need equipment updates. "Only thing we noticed that needs work is the small playground. I thought our kids would tip the whole thing over while swinging!" cautions Pat&Amanda D. about Frog City RV Park's play areas.

Seasonal activities: Plan visits around structured programming. "We will be back! Love the friendly family party vibe this campground has! Beautiful amenities. We were there outside of pool season but there were bands and activities every weekend!" reports Claire M. about weekend entertainment at Camp Margaritaville.

Tips from RVers

Hookup locations: Position your rig strategically for utilities at Parkside RV Park. "You'll need a long sewer hose; the sewer hook ups are at the very back of the site," advises Erika P. Based on this feedback, pack extended sewer hoses for Lafayette area camping.

Laundry facilities: Bayou Wilderness RV Campground offers practical laundry options. "The laundry has 6 washers ($2.00) and 6 working dryers ($2.50). This is an excellent overnight stay with FHU," notes Andrew. Most parks maintain small laundry facilities with 4-8 machines.

Leveling requirements: Expect well-maintained sites requiring minimal setup. "The spaces are all level, paved, and long and wide enough to fit your RV and two vehicles," explains Erika P. about Parkside RV Park. Most campgrounds feature concrete or gravel pads that accommodate slideouts without additional leveling blocks.
