    Sea Rim State Park

This is part of a huge refuge with marshes and seashores. We got a cabin (not sure if there is a tent or RV area) and it was really nice: AC, unfurnished kitchen, comfy bunkbeds, screened deck (bring your own kitchen supplies and bedding). I’m pretty sure the cabins are relatively new (as of 2014) because of a hurricane sometime in the past decade. Absolutely beautiful for a day or the weekend.

    Miles of Beach Camping

Or stay in the small, open campground with picnic tables, fire rings, water and electric hook up and a nearby comfort station. There’s an outside cold water shower and an elevated walkway crossing wetland to the beach.

The birding is absolutely fantastic so come with binoculars. I saw great flocks of Avocets feeding at the waters edge along with Willets, and a variety of sandpipers and terns including Caspian. There’s a paved trail to hike through the wetlands. Bug spray is essential.

Beach camping is available to any vehicle or camper. The upper beach sand is hard packed like a road and it goes for about three miles on the East side and about 10 on the West side.

I can’t say enough about the staff who became dedicated to rescuing me after a major storm dumped three inches of rain in a couple of hours causing an inland pond to overflow cutting a channel through the beach to the Gulf. I was stranded about two miles out in my 2X4 camper van for two delightful days before they brought out the heavy equipment and towed me across the channel and back to the real world.

Gas up in Port Arthur before driving down.

    Intracoastal Parish Park Campground

    Dave and DiDi Go Crabbing

This was our second visit to this nice campground. Improvements were made after Hurricane Rita, All sites are gravel with plenty of room. Each side includes a picnic table-- with those between the two boat ramps covered--as well as a garbage can. Easy access to water for fishing and crabbing at the park plus convenient location to national refuge and coastline to the south. Bathrooms were adequate, spacious, and clean. Dump site also clean. Walkways and docks along the canal with a fish cleaning station on main covered dock area. New playground equipment and meeting room (rental) but closed due to COVID-19. Agree with previous review about noise. We were further away and didn't notice road or water noise at night. Good TV reception with regular antenna. Also no problems cell phone reception (ATT). We will definitely stay here again. This visit we were in our 25 ft travel trailer,

The mosquitoes are serious here, but the beach is gorgeous.

This was a spur-of-the-moment trip from NW Arkansas so we could dip our toes in the ocean in the middle of winter. It's unfortunate that you have to go through Port Arthur to get to the state park, but totally worth it once you get there. WARNING: the mosquitoes are serious here. We have an Aliner and although we use pool noodles to seal gaps in the A-frame's roof, they found a way in--hundreds of them. We only stayed the one night because of it. Having said that, if you have a class A/B/C camper, you should be fine. I wouldn't recommend it to tent campers even with the best bug spray...and we went in December! Clean, beautiful facilities. You can park in a site, or if you don't want/need utilities, you're allowed to camp on the beach.

Great for hiking, biking, and kayaking

If you like Louisiana Wildlife this is the place for you! I saw a couple of lounging alligators, egrets, snapping turtles, deer, and a chipmunk!!! I was kind of scared when I saw a sign on the trails warning of the gators! As far as RV camping, it wasn't a really nice area. The site we were in was 56, I don't reccomend it. Pretty unlevel and very close to other campers. When it rained, the water pooled on the backside and where the picnic table was. There was a shower house. It was old, but really clean.

    Sea Rim State Park Campground

Hidden Gem - except for the no-see-ums

We camped here Memorial Weekend. The primitive camping on the beach gives an amazing view. The beach sand above the tide is so firm, that even a couple 5th wheel Camping trailers had driven out to primitive spots. The spaces are spaced out really far, though, so thankfully we could not hear the generators. The primitive "sites" are really just posts along the grass before the dune line that have a trash barrel. There is no real enforcement of how close you are to the post, and no designated tent pad or fire ring. You can just dig out an area of sand for your campfire.

There are no showers or restrooms for the beach. However, there are drop toilets in the RV camping area, that you can walk or drive to. There is also an outdoor shower in the day use area along with a spigot that we used to wash dishes.

If there is a light breeze, then camping here is awesome. Unfortunately, swarms of no-see-ums appear if the wind stops. The wind stopped during the middle of our second night, and we were bitten so many times that it looked like we had poison ivy. The little bugs found a way into our tent. We actually decided to skip out at bedtime on our third night because the wind died down again. The bugs were swarming us and our citronella candles, and nothing seemed to deter them.

On the marsh side, there are several paddling trails. The ranger station rents out canoes and kayaks by the hour. We saw a few alligators on those trails. On the beach, we were able to go crabbing. The beach gets pretty crowded during the day with lots of day use people playing and fishing, but they seemed to stay closer to the start of the beach and not come very far down into our primitive area.

    Improvement road

This are has been hit by multiple hurricanes, flooding and fires. The rebuilding process is taking time but it is on it's way. Large viewing ponds of alligators, turtles and birds are surrounded by walking and biking trails for all different levels of activity. The sites are only full rv hookup because thats where the money is. Hopefully primative tent sites will open in the next year or two. Laundry, bathhouse and wifi are available. Ice, camping needs are NOT available for purchase but only an 8 minute drive away. Slight constant hum of traffic can be heard otherwise very quiet camp.

    Vinton RV Park

Easy to Access, Great for Overnight Stop or Long Term

Only $375/mo for Long Term, All Utilities Included, Free Wi-Fi and Free Laundry!

We were heading back to Texas after Spring Break and needed a quiet, easy stop for the night. Vinton RV Park ended up being a perfect fit for our family. It’s right off I-10, super easy to find and book, and felt peaceful the moment we pulled in. At first, we had looked at a few other parks online that looked a bit more“luxury” in the photos, but when we got here, we were honestly surprised—in a good way. The amenity center here is actually really nice and has more of a resort feel than some of the other places nearby. Our boys had a blast riding their bikes around the park. It’s a big property, and we felt totally comfortable letting them run around since it’s well off the main road. There's even a gate at the entrance, which adds an extra layer of peace of mind(it was open when we arrived, but I imagine it gets closed later on). All in all, it was a great family-friendly stop, and we’ll definitely keep it on our list for future trips.

Guide to Cameron

Cabin rentals near Cameron, Louisiana offer options from rustic to fully-equipped accommodations within a coastal wetland environment. The area sits at a low elevation, typically less than 10 feet above sea level, creating unique camping conditions where water access is abundant but high ground can be limited. Summer temperatures average 90°F with high humidity, while winter nights can drop into the 40s.

What to do

Fishing from cabin sites: Several waterfront cabin locations provide direct access to fishing. At Myers Landing and RV Park, cabins offer lakeside views where "we had a waterfront view and hated to leave to head home," as one visitor noted. Their small market near the lake provides bait and fishing supplies.

Kayaking marsh trails: The wetland ecosystem surrounding cabin locations offers excellent paddling opportunities. Sea Rim State Park has "great kayaking trail maps and recommendations from the rangers on where to go," according to a camper. The park includes both marsh and beach paddling routes with wildlife viewing.

Wildlife observation: Cabins serve as comfortable bases for wildlife watching. One reviewer at Sam Houston Jones State Park mentioned, "If you like Louisiana Wildlife this is the place for you! I saw a couple of lounging alligators, egrets, snapping turtles, deer, and a chipmunk!"

What campers like

Clean recreation centers: Many cabin campgrounds maintain well-kept community facilities. A visitor to Vinton RV Park commented, "The REC center looks new and clean. I love the FREE laundry on site and the pool being clean and open." These amenities provide comfort beyond individual cabins.

Waterfront views: Cabins with water views rank consistently high in visitor satisfaction. One Myers Landing guest shared, "Rustic mom and pop place tucked away in a country setting right on the water," highlighting the peaceful setting that made their stay memorable.

Family-friendly activities: Several cabin locations offer amenities specifically for children. At Little Lake Charles Resort, families appreciate that there's "lots to do with pool, water slide, water play area mini golf and fishing," making it ideal for longer cabin stays with kids.

What you should know

Seasonal mosquito intensity: The coastal location means significant insect pressure, particularly in warmer months. A camper at Sea Rim State Park advised to "get bug spray from office PRIOR TO DOING ANYTHING!" emphasizing the importance of preparation.

Site conditions vary significantly: Quality and maintenance of cabin areas can differ greatly between locations. At Intracoastal Parish Park, improvements made after Hurricane Rita resulted in "all sites are gravel with plenty of room," while other parks may have less consistent upkeep.

Noise considerations: Several cabin locations have unique noise factors to consider. One reviewer noted of Intracoastal Parish Park: "The only problem was we were right on the water and near the bridge and my husband didn't sleep well with the traffic and boat noise." Selecting sites further from waterways or roads can improve sleeping conditions.

Tips for camping with families

Bathroom facilities: When evaluating cabins for family stays, check bathroom quality and proximity. A reviewer at Sam Houston Jones State Park noted, "There is a shower house. It was old, but really clean," indicating adequate facilities despite age.

Water recreation options: Families with children often prefer cabins near swimming areas. Little Lake Charles Resort receives positive feedback for its "pool, water slide, water play area" that keeps children entertained during summer months when temperatures regularly exceed 90°F.

Gate closing times: Some parks enforce strict access schedules that impact evening activities. A Sea Rim visitor warned, "This is the only park that I've encountered that literally locks their gate at night... There is no way in, no way out until the next morning," an important consideration for families planning evening outings.

Tips from RVers

Laundry access: For extended cabin stays, laundry facilities become essential. Vinton RV Park offers a notable benefit where "electric, Wi-Fi, free laundry and premium amenities are all included in the rent," eliminating extra costs for longer stays.

Off-season value: Several cabin locations offer significantly reduced rates during non-peak times. Sam Houston Jones State Park has pricing of "$20/night during the week and $28/night on the weekend. These prices are for off-peak season," providing substantial savings for flexible travelers.

Water quality concerns: Some cabin areas have water issues worth noting. A Myers Landing visitor cautioned, "The water smelled very badly like metal and we had to turn it off and use our own tank water since it smelled so yucky," suggesting bringing bottled water for drinking and cooking.
