Top-Rated RV Parks & Campgrounds near Barkley Lake

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Barkley Lake features several dedicated RV campgrounds with full hookup options, making it one of western Kentucky's most accessible destinations for RV camping. Tanglewood Campground and RV Resort provides 60 sites with concrete pads, electric, water and sewer connections, supporting both fifty and thirty-amp service. Birmingham Point Campground operates seasonally from March 15 to November 15, offering water, electric and sewer hookups with boat access. "Each site has plenty of room and comes with its own patio and cable TV connection," notes one visitor about Eagles Nest RV Park, which features all concrete pads with full-service utility kiosks. Indian Point RV Park in Eddyville has limited transient camping spaces but includes water and electric hookups, operating from April through November.

Most RV parks around Barkley Lake require advance reservations, particularly during summer months and fishing tournaments. Dump stations are available at select locations including Birmingham Point and Cypress Lakes RV Park, though positioning can sometimes be challenging. A review mentioned that at Indian Point, "the dump station could be on the wrong side of the road if you don't know which way to pull out for it to be on the correct side for your RV." Big rig accessibility varies by location, with Eagles Nest RV Park, Outback RV Resort, and Cypress Lakes all designated as big-rig friendly. Pet policies are generally permissive throughout the region, with most parks allowing pets but requiring them to be leashed when outside the RV.

    Paducah-Kentucky Lake KOA

    Decent KOA

Before arrival, we received a helpful confirmation email with clear directions for entering the campground, although the turn was easy with our 40-foot fifth wheel. Check-in was exceptionally friendly—we were even welcomed by a fellow Brinkley owner—and escorted to pull-through Site A6 with full hookups. The utilities were easy to reach, and water pressure was good. We were pleasantly surprised to learn we could park our truck anywhere, even on the grass. Starlink would be questionable because of the mature trees, but the campground's Wi-Fi was better than most we have experienced at around 50 Mbps download and 24 Mbps upload. We had two bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile, while our T-Mobile Home Internet work well. The upper A-loop pull-through sites are fairly level but somewhat close together. The terraced B, C, and D loops could be more challenging for larger rigs to maneuver, level, and exit. The campground also offers a fishing pond, cabins, tent sites, and a fenced dog park. Overall, this is a clean, well-maintained KOA Journey with friendly staff that worked very well for our overnight stay, and we would stay here again.

    Eddy Creek Marina Resort

    A Resort RV park

Eddy creek RV park is very well kept, clean, and somewhat secluded on Lake Barkley. Only open from April through Oct, the RV camp area is behind a code locked gate, which helps to keep the park private. There is a dump station, laundry facility, bath house , propane available and Echo Charlie's restaurant that serves typical American food that includes large servings!  I didn't see any tent sites, only RV sites, most with newer looking decks, level sites, electric and water hookup to each site.  The beach is private, the pool is private, everything is within walking distance, but most people were using golf carts, as it is a good distance from the RV area to the restaurant or the pool.  Bicycling would also be ideal, most areas are paved or at least compacted gravel.

    Canal Campground- Lake Barkley COE

    Nice COE campground

Grand Rivers KY Canal Campground at Barkley Lake COE Site 111 This is a great COE campground located between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, with views of the Barkley Dam. The canal connects them and you can see boats and occasionally barges passing through. There are over 100 campsites are available, many with water views. We had a spacious site with a river view. Other loops are closer together and no view. Sites offer electric and/or water hookups, tables and fire ring. Other amenities include clean old style bathhouses, a dump station, laundry facilities, a playground, and picnic pavilions. We saw several deer roaming the grounds. There's a great pizza place in town Papa Z.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

    Old and small

The sites are very small but spread out. Our 35 ft class a barely fit. They do show length limits for sites and they definitely max limit. There is electric (30 amp) and water at the site but it was 75 ft from my sites. Extensions are needed. The staff is friendly and the roads are paved but there are signs directing where to go. Great bathrooms and plentiful. Also coin operated laundry. Fairly close to the freeway.

    Hillman Ferry Campground

    Clean and Rustic

The best part of this campground is the beautiful rustic old timey feel. There are updated modern bathhouses dispersed throughout. The camp store is well stocked. There is a very nice boat ramp and several boat parking areas. “T” area is our favorite with full hookups and beautiful pine trees. A premier and amazing mountain bike trail system is accessible directly from campground!! The Canal Loop Trail and North South Trails are well known and revered by area mountain bikers and hikers. No WiFi or internet service. Cell signal in prior years have been spotty. Very family friendly and lots of kids riding bikes and playing everywhere!

    Canal Campground- Lake Barkley COE

    And then some.....

Canal Recreation Area is right by Grand Rivers, Ky and Patti's Settlement. That right there is enough said as far as outdoor activities go. Then you have Canal Rec Area that just adds too the vacation.

Book early because the best sites stay full, but really they are all pretty good sites. The different areas cover just about anything you are looking for in a site from big rig pull through sites, tiered tent sites, water and beach access sites and boat ramp sites.

There is a trail within the campground to walk, a day use area, newer showerhouse/laundry facilities and dump stations. The area is large enough to jog, bike and golf cart. If your not interested in the nearby entertainment there is enough to do right on site to keep you occupied for your entire vacation be it a day or a week+

    Indian Point RV Park

    Overnight only

The campground sits on three level overlooking Lake Barkly. There are only 5 pull-thru sites with full hookups on wide open ground, no shade. There are 16 water and electric sites. The 150+ sites are long term rental properties. There is a swimming pool, play ground, boat ramp, and game room. Dump site at entrance. More a retirement community than a RV camp.

    Spring Creek Campground

    Rv site

The pricing policy is complicated for long term they require $25 each person for background checks. The sites in the back are pretty tight and mostly long term. They do have nice sites near the office. They are pull through.

Guide to Barkley Lake

Barkley Lake in Kentucky covers over 57,900 acres with 1,004 miles of shoreline, offering water-based recreation near the Tennessee-Kentucky border. Water levels typically fluctuate between winter and summer pool heights, with elevation differences of approximately 5 feet between seasons. RV camping options remain open throughout these seasonal changes, with most campgrounds operating from early spring through mid-November.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Birmingham Point Campground offers excellent fishing access directly from the campground. "We enjoyed the lake view from our site plus we saw deer and eagles in the CG during our overnight stay," notes one visitor about the wildlife viewing opportunities that complement fishing activities.

Water recreation: Tanglewood Campground and RV Resort provides 60 concrete pad sites close to prime boating areas. This newer facility features amenities specifically designed for boaters accessing Barkley Lake, with full hookup capabilities supporting extended stays during peak fishing seasons.

Nature observation: Several campgrounds offer wildlife viewing opportunities. At Birmingham Point, visitors report regular sightings of "deer and eagles in the CG" making it ideal for nature photographers. The shoreline access points allow for bird watching throughout the day.

What campers like

Level sites: Eagles Nest RV Park receives consistent praise for their concrete pads. "Each pad is concrete and has its own patio and plenty of shade trees," notes one camper, highlighting the practical benefits for RV setup and stability.

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention the maintenance standards at Cypress Lakes RV Park. "Very clean facilities and lovely people! We'd stay again," reports one visitor, while another mentions "the showers are large and clean" — important considerations for extended stays.

Friendly atmosphere: The welcoming environment appears consistently across reviews. At Cypress Lakes, visitors note, "The staff makes you feel like a friend immediately," while at Eagles Nest, "Our campground hosts Shirley and Bobby were just phenomenal. Helpful, kind, and friendly."

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most Barkley Lake RV campgrounds operate from spring through fall, with specific schedules varying. Birmingham Point Campground runs from "Mar 15 - Nov 15," requiring advance planning for early or late season visits.

Site variations: At Indian Point RV Park, "Transient camping is in the hollow, seasonal camping is up the hill," with a reviewer noting limited spaces for temporary visitors despite water and electric hookups being available.

Dump station considerations: Some campgrounds have dump stations in challenging locations. At Indian Point, one reviewer cautions the dump station "could be on the wrong side of the road if you don't know which way to pull out for it to be on the correct side for your RV - and located in an area that could present a steep hill and curve to navigate to it."

Tips for camping with families

Recreation amenities: Venture River RV Park offers family-friendly facilities adjacent to water recreation. "We would stay here again and bring the cousins to play at the water park," notes one visitor, highlighting the convenience for families with children.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Outback RV Resort, visitors recommend selecting sites carefully. "The gravel site with a picnic table and fire pit was long enough for our 39' 5th wheel and our F-450," notes one RVer, showing adequate space for larger rigs.

Utility considerations: Water pressure varies between campgrounds. At Outback RV Resort, campers report "good water pressure and no issues with the utilities," while noting "3 bars on Verizon" for cell service — important information for remote workers.

Access challenges: Some RV sites around Barkley Lake require careful navigation. At Birmingham Point, one visitor cautions about site 25: "We would not recommended trying to anything longer than a 38' rig into the site due to the turn to get out," highlighting the importance of researching access before arrival.
