Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area Redd Hollow Campground

ATV and dirt bike riders gain direct trail access from Redd Hollow Campground, with over 100 miles of off-road routes threading through Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. The self-service campground sits approximately 1.5 miles down a well-maintained gravel road that accommodates standard vehicles without requiring four-wheel drive.

The facility spreads across roughly 30 gravel-based sites, with about half offering direct lake views of Kentucky Lake. Sites vary in size from smaller spots suitable for tent camping to larger areas that can accommodate RVs up to 26 feet. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, while vault toilets and trash dumpsters serve the campground. Some sites sit directly on the water's edge, while others occupy higher ground with elevated lake vistas.

Campers register using the iron ranger system at the entrance after selecting their preferred site. Randy S. notes the sites are "gravel and pretty level." The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis year-round, making early arrival advisable during peak seasons.

Swimming draws visitors during summer months, while fishing remains popular throughout the year. The nearby Colson Hollow Group Camp Land Between the Lakes provides additional camping options for larger groups. Showers and restrooms allow riders to clean up after trail sessions.

Campers regularly cited the level gravel sites and lake views, with many mentioning fire rings and basic facilities. A common theme was the primitive setting that's great for ATV/dirt bike access to 100+ miles of trails.

Great dispersed campground

Great dispersed campground. Approx 1-1/2 miles off the highway down a one lane gravel road. Approx 30 sites. Sites are gravel and pretty level. At least half of the sites have a view of the lake. All sites have fire rings and picnic tables. Definitely would like to go back and camp there again. Were there with a 26 foot towable.

Redd Hollow is prime for being primitive!

Redd Hollow is a Self-service campground in Land Between the Lakes (LBL) with improved camp sites, fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilet and trash dumpsters. Some sites are directly on the water, some are higher up, with great views of the lake.  The campsites are pea gravel based, and while some are smaller and closer together (ideal for tents or car camping) there are a few that are large enough for dry docking a small RV.  I didn't pay attention to whether there was potable water, (I haul mine in) but the Dump Station just south of Golden Pond Visitor Center has potable water.

The road going back to Redd Hollow is an improved gravel road that is in good condition. Easily traveled in a car, 4WD is not needed.  All sites are first come- first served, so you will want to come early.  At Self Service areas, I drive through, find my site, then walk back to the entrance and complete the registration card, place payment in the envelope and drop it in the "Iron Ranger".   A Dispersed Camping permit does not allow you to camp in a self-service campground.

Awesome! Incredible views

Bring your atv, dirt bike or sidexside and cruise the trails right along Lake Barkley. They have over 100 miles of trails. They also have bathrooms and showers to rinse off after a day of enjoying hiking or riding. Pull a camper, drive an RV or pitch a tent. Swimming in the summer and fishing year around. The views are spectacular.
