Nature's Retreat: A Sustainable Getaway with a Touch of Serenity

Incredible campground, and it was an unforgettable experience! The 2.3 acres are full of natural beauty, with the open meadow and food forest creating a peaceful and vibrant atmosphere. The birds, bees, and butterflies were everywhere, making it feel like a true nature retreat. The abundance of fresh bananas and the host's expertise in foraging added a unique touch. Plus, being so close to Riverbend Park and Jupiter's beaches was a huge bonus! Just like keeping track of GEPCO bill online at https://gepcobillsonline.pk/ helps me manage my energy usage, this campground taught me to appreciate natural resources and sustainability.

I have to start by saying that I haven't been here in a few years but I went there this week and I was amazed at the transformation. It is beautiful, clean and very welcoming. Each site has new outdoor furniture and is clean. These sites are just waiting for you to pull in. The staff was very nice and went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. I highly recommend a stay here. The pool is crystal clear and welcoming. It's located near many attractions and shopping. Beautiful sunset viewing across the street at Vista View Park and easy highway access. You're going to love your stay at this KOA!

      It’s the bees knees

This is a working bee farm, so bee aware if you have allergies. It is quiet, clean, and airy. You can’t hear your neighbors. Just take a breath and relax.

Love Steve the owner, he is very accommodating and loves what he does.

The air strip is an added extra. I love watching the planes take off and land.

All sites are full hookup. Great place to stay if you want to stay for awhile. So much to do and see.

Got here in March and it is now May. Feels like home.

Beautiful park, but no parking and very crowded

I was going to rent there, but it was so crowded that we would not be able to open our awnings and we were only allowed 1 car per spot. You have to pay $6.00 a day to park your car in a lot that is some distance away. This of course is in season, so I am sure that this was why is was the way it was. It was so crowded that I could not see how our 5th wheel would fit, not how we would be able to fit it in. I am so glad we went to visit before we were to stay 3 months there

      Larry & Penny Thompson Park

Quiet and Peaceful Campground, trees, greenery and option for long term

This is a very nice campground which is part of the Miami-Dade County park system.  It is close to the Encore Everglades park (about 4 miles) so we stayed here after we departed.  The campground is divided into pods and each pod has about 15 or so sites.  We were in pod 4 site 20 (420 lol).  We booked this camp with the intent to stay for a month or longer as my husband had an opportunity to Captain boats in Miami.

The park was very quiet.  Most of the campers were retirees, a few families with kids, but we were there in early January.  The grounds are nicely maintained with lots of places to walk and open space with trees.  They don't allow dogs off-leash and although it is adjacent to the rest of the Larry & Penny park, dogs are not even allowed in the main park, at all.  We did however find a few dog parks within four miles or so which were nice.

They have a very nice pool which was open daily Wed- Sunday 11am - 5pm.  It was raining and rather dreary during our stay so we didn't use the pool.  They have a nice Clubhouse and it looked okay with tables, chairs, books, puzzles, but again very quiet.  Not many activities except for a few and we didn't stay long enough to participate.  After a week, we decided to make moves back home to Lake Tahoe.  It was unseasonably cold, raining so no boat work and not an ideal spot for the dogs.  They don't have WiFi and since we were planning a longer stay, purchased the Starlink system since I work remote during the winter.  Starlink worked great, but costs $500+ to get started and then $120 or so a month.  If you are looking for an affordable long term/monthly stay, it is great.  The rates were $850 a month for full hook-ups.  They had last minute space available, too.

If you are in the area, check out the Miami Zoo.  We were there when they had the "Zoo Lights" a super fun evening event.  They have other events at the Zoo and lots to do nearby.  You are closer to town than Everglades Encore, but still close to the agricultural area.  I recommend but not as fun or as many activities as some other places.

      Reasonable price for great accommodations.

The good: The campground is very reasonably priced relative to accommodations in the surrounding area. The facilities are clean and functional. The meh: This is a family campground so you may end up with noisy neighbors (and/or their children). The bad: Code Compliance is strict and will lurk until you leave your site and then stick a nasty-gram to your door about whatever rule you violated. Apparently good tape is in short supply - I found my note under my camper by chance. They placed the note after nightfall.

Good experience, this was the first campground we ever visited with our RV but it was smooth. Price was okay (I guess), front desk lady was very friendly, slot was spacey and the pool seemed nice although we didn't use it (what a shame)

      Nice staff - clean park

A little confusing getting here if it’s your first time. GPS will tell you to turn left into the campground when it’s a right at the stop sign from 184th/127th. The staff at the front was super helpful, but we never got info on a wifi code and didn’t notice until it was too late. Super clean bathrooms, which was surprising since we generally don’t expect much when staying in a public park setting. Very quiet and great for what we needed. The sites have enough room. Our site backed up to the bathrooms / laundry but there was enough space between to not be disruptive.

      Unhealthy bees and uneven lot

We arrived in the late afternoon, parked the trailer and realized immediately that the spot was extremely uneven. If you're camping in a trailer even lots are a must. The lot we stayed in was not mowed, many ant piles and mosquitoes. The bee hive boxes look like they hadn't been taken care of in years. Steven rushed us out in less than an hour while we had so much to pack up (takes 1 hour to pack up a trailer correctly.

Excellent place to camp and chill

The sunsets over the water are spectacular. Even though I’m a local, you never get tired of watching them. My site was private and (mostly) clean. Easy pull throughs available if you’re not a savvy backer-upper. The only downside was the loud music playing at the park next door, and I love music! But after a while, and especially late at night, you want to slow the merengue down a bit, neighboring park :) There may have been a festival of sorts going on at that time, and if you’re up for a party, you know where to find it! Good thing I had the quiet on the left, party on the right option 😂🎉🍾 not complaining. Just observing. I’m still young enough to appreciate a good gathering and celebration. But if it’s extreme solace and quiet you’re seeking, go somewhere more primitive, perhaps? This is a hustling bustling area come season and it’s jam-packed with things to do. But I highly recommend this park for my fellow travelers and locals !

    Guide to Pompano Beach

Camping near Pompano Beach, Florida, offers a mix of beautiful scenery and fun activities for everyone. Whether you're looking for a family getaway or a peaceful retreat, there are several campgrounds to choose from.

    What to do

    • Explore nature trails: Many campgrounds have extensive trails. For instance, at Pine Grove Campground — Jonathan Dickinson State Park, one reviewer mentioned, "The trails are extensive, and the people are incredibly friendly and helpful."
    • Visit nearby beaches: Hobe Sound beach is close to Pine Grove Campground, making it easy to enjoy the sun and surf. A family camper noted, "The pine scrub forest makes for such an amazing adventure and perfect campsite experience."
    • Check out local attractions: Larry & Penny Thompson Park is near the Miami Zoo, which offers fun events like "Zoo Lights." One visitor shared, "If you are in the area, check out the Miami Zoo."

    What campers like

    • Clean facilities: Campers appreciate well-maintained restrooms and showers. A reviewer at Larry & Penny Thompson Park said, "Super clean bathrooms, which was surprising since we generally don’t expect much when staying in a public park setting."
    • Friendly staff: Many campers rave about the helpfulness of the staff. At Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA, one guest mentioned, "The staff was very nice and went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed."
    • Quiet atmosphere: Campgrounds like Midway Campground — Big Cypress National Preserve are known for their peaceful settings. A camper noted, "Great camp sites, leveled with electric for the RVs and tent camping off on the side."

    What you should know

    • Reservations are recommended: Many campgrounds fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons. A visitor at Florida St Lucie Lock North advised, "You’re supposed to write your name and permit number on a paper to display on your dash."
    • Mosquitoes can be a problem: Campers at West Palm Beach-Lion Country Safari KOA warned about the swarms of mosquitoes. One camper said, "Couldn’t even open the trailer door for a split second without 10 mosquitoes flying in."
    • Limited amenities at some sites: Not all campgrounds have full amenities. A reviewer at Dupuis Campground mentioned, "The outhouse is the way and you can smell it."

    Tips for camping with families

    • Choose family-friendly campgrounds: Look for places with playgrounds and activities. At John Prince Park Campground, one parent said, "The playgrounds are nice, and it’s pretty quiet."
    • Plan for activities: Bring bikes or canoes for fun family outings. A family camper at Pine Grove Campground shared, "There are bicycle trails, canoeing/kayaking options."
    • Pack snacks and drinks: Having food on hand can make outings easier. A camper at Larry & Penny Thompson Park noted, "They have a nice store and food truck down by the river."

    Tips from RVers
