    Road Runner Travel Resort

    Wonderful Park

We discovered this place on a vacation trip to see a friend on Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce FL. We are now camping here seasonally in a 35 ft Class A RV. There's a large pool, a good-sized general / convenience store with all the essentials you might need, and a full restaurant right on site. The RV sites vary in size and set-up, most are level, most have a concrete patio. most have full hook-ups. There are also a number of "villas" (short, single-wide manufactured homes) that people either rent for an extended stay, or own, interspersed throughout the park. Many people live here year-round, and even more live here for three or six months during winter. There are 3 rustic cabins and a few spaces for tents. While this is billed as a "family" resort, most of the longer-term campers are retired, or "digital nomads" that work remotely. There are a few families with kids, and a few people like us who don't have children but are younger than retirement age. It's a good mix. There are adult activities - Bingo, karaoke, jam sessions, trivia night, pickleball, tennis, shuffleboard, Pentaque, cornhole, basketball, crafts (for adults), and more. Short stays are not cheap, but longer stays are pretty affordable considering the great pool and all there is to do. Oh, there are fireplaces at the premium pull-through sites, fires are allowed on regular sites only in a raised, enclosed firepit. There is also community firepit. We love it here.

West Palm Beach-Lion Country Safari KOA

    5 summer months

So, we were here a bit long term in the summer. Staying here in the summer is as bad as being in Vermont in winter. You need a reason to be there and sadly we did.
First off, waking up to lions roaring and bonobos scream in the morning was freaking amazing! I will treasure this memory for the rest of my life. The facilities are aging but are clean. The ladies in the front office were awesome and accommodating. We purchased a new RV while there and they had no issues moving us and making sure we were good with moving up from a 30 Amp to a 50 Amp site. At $99/night it is expensive and by not having the facilities of a KOA Holiday and being so far away from the Highway as a KOA Journey I can't give it 5 stars but, it is damn close.

    Whispering Palms Resort

55 and over campground Snowbird haven !

Very clean, all sites are concrete and mostly level. A mix of 30 and 50 amp hookups with water and sewer as well. There are 2 swimming pools, one is designated for families traveling with children. There is a small lake for catch and release fishing. Shuffleboard, tennis, horseshoe, bocce ball, and pickle ball courts. There are a couple of community building, one for playing pool (4 tables) and a card room. Another building for larger community events. It is a dog friendly campground, dogs must always be on a leash and not left outside unattended. After a full COVID recovery more community events are being planned. About 85% of the campground are permanent residents. Short term camping in the front of the park with some pull through sites for the big rigs. Easy access off of US Hwy 1 Sebastian, Fl.

    St Lucie South

    Beautiful getaway

The staff at check-in was the best. I talk with several over my 5 day stay sharing ideas and stories. Very helpful. The spots are laid out perfect. Easy to backend. Concert pads, gravel fire pit and covered picnic tables. No bad views i was in 3 different sites during my stay. Grounds are kept clean, cut, trim and edged. Reception good on t.v. Antenna and dish satellite. No wifi on sites but free wifi at reception area. Great river views. 3 bars on T-mobile. Your right at the locks so watch the boats pass from the gulf to the Ocean. Horseshoe pits. Clean showerhouse. Tent camping is primitive m. All RV sites have water 30 and 50 amp service. Sites on river will hold 45’ class A. Close to shopping. All sites have 30/50 amp service and water. Sewer is not available. Dump station near exit on way out,  Because of the cleanest of the campground and the friendly staff I rate this a five. they make up for the only downfall of being allowed to dump once per week or there is a fee of $20.00.  there is no charge for a honey wagon dump.  I would assume the extra fee is to encourage water management since there has been issues with algae growth in the waterways.

    Long Point Park Campground

    First time camper’s opinion

This is the first time we have gone camping in our new travel trailer. Therefore, I don’t have the experience to compare to. For what it’s worth…The sites are clean and have a picnic table and fire ring. Although I believe there is a burn ban at the moment. The outer sites at the waters edge have only electric and water hookups. There are some sites that have sewer hookups as well but are not directly on water. Some sites have a larger opening through the brush than others. I appreciate that you can view a photo of site when booking on their website. There is a dump station in the campground if needed. Staff that checked me in was friendly. Dog friendly. Very nice experience.

    Fisheating Creek Campground

    Nice Campground to Enjoy

Fish Eating Creek Outpost : Trails and canoe/kayak shuttle provided Water is a bit low right now. There is a 2 mile trail beginning in the campground. There is also a 6.7 mile trail within a short drive from the campground. I have included a map for this trail in photos.

(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer. Our rating of a campground is influenced by the following: The general ambiance- sort of wilderness feel the campground gives us. A selection of campsites which offer some visual privacy. Cleanliness of whatever type of the campsite and whatever facilities are offered is important and usually noted in my review.

Overall Rating: 3 Price 2023: $ 38 Usage during visit: Light Site Privacy: Open between sites Site Spacing: Fairly good Site surface: Most are paved . Some are soil/grass. Reservations: Accepted Campground Noise: Quiet during my visit Road Noise: Not noticeable Through Traffic in campground: No Electric Hookup: Yes Sewer Hookup: Some Dump Station: Yes Potable Water Available: At site Generators: At some sites allowed Bathroom: Flush Toilets Showers: Yes. Double Curtains Pull Throughs: Most if not all are back ins Cell Service (AT&T): 3 bars Setting: Open park like under large, scattered mossy trees . Recent Weather: to 50s for lows and to 80s for highs. Solar: In many sites should be good solar. The sites in P Loop probably will bony have adequate solar. Host: Yes. Staff friendly.
Rig size: Large rigs Sites: Perimeter sites are nicest in my opinion. Sites under the mossy trees are going to offer some shade.

P1-6 are my favorite sites here. They offer RVs more of a camping kind of atmosphere as they are a little more secluded. Not all have electric/sewer, so better check. They are under trees with moss hanging from them. Not all sites in P1-6 will accommodate a tall rig!

Pine Grove Campground — Jonathan Dickinson State Park

Pleasant area. Book far in advance!

There are limited options for affordable camping in this part of Florida, so plan to book your stay here a while in advance as it fills up. We are lucky to snag two nights here on our way to Miami. Lots of hiking options and some really nice views. The RV park has full hookups and is almost completely filled with older adult campers high end big rigs. Clean facilities and level sites though.

    Resort at Canopy Oaks

    Great Clean Site

Sites are all level, paved, and pretty big. We have a 40ft 5th wheel and fit the rig and truck on the site and still had room to spread out. Full hookups and high speed internet were available at each site as well. Plenty to do at the park from fishing, hitting golf balls, relaxing in the pool, feeding the goats, hanging out at the tiki bar, or watching the dogs run in the two dog parks. Very friendly and accommodating staff as well.

Guide to Okeechobee

Okeechobee campgrounds and RV sites provide direct access to Florida's second-largest freshwater lake, spanning 730 square miles with an average depth of only 9 feet. The region experiences a subtropical climate with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and winter lows rarely dropping below 40°F. Most camping options cluster around the lake's northeastern shore, offering waterfront access through canals connected to the main lake.

What to do

Fishing access: Barlows Fish and RV Camp sits directly on a canal with access to Lake Okeechobee. "Great lil place. Staff is very friendly. Small clubhouse with laundry, pool table and dart board. Neighbors were great," notes camper Jeff T. who appreciated the fishing opportunities.

Water activities: Zachary Taylor Waterfront RV Resort provides boat access to waterways connected to Lake Okeechobee. "Very nice park, staff very friendly, price very good for June. Everything you want or need is right here. Marinas and guides are close," according to camper William O.

Wildlife viewing: Seminole Brighton Casino RV Resort offers opportunities to observe local wildlife from your site. "We stayed at a lot that backed up to the nature preserve it was fabulous to look out our back window and look at nature and not another RV," reports Chad N., who enjoyed the natural setting.

What campers like

Pool facilities: Waters Edge Motor Coach & RV Resort maintains a swimming pool that receives positive reviews from campers. Kevin A. mentions, "Very nice facility. Very clean. Nicely landscaped. Right on the canal. Matched descriptions. Upscale facility."

Friendly community: North Lake Estates RV Resort creates a welcoming atmosphere according to visitors. One camper described the people as "very nice and helpful" and mentioned the spots are "nice and big and not too close to each other."

Site spacing: Treasure Coast RV Park offers reasonably spaced sites despite being in a resort setting. Nancy S. shared, "The sites are roomy, easy to get in, level, and the entire park is manicured! This is a great place to spend the winter season and easy to make friends."

What you should know

Seasonal occupancy: Most RV sites near Okeechobee, Florida fill quickly from January through March. Brighton RV Resort hosts many long-term residents during winter months. "A new casino is being built beginning Summer 2023 with expected completion in 2025. We were told the majority of the campsites and cabins will house the construction workers," notes one camper.

Weather considerations: Summer brings intense heat and occasional afternoon thunderstorms to the Okeechobee area. Hurricane season runs June through November, with September being the peak month for tropical systems.

Varied cell service: Lakeside North RV Resort has inconsistent cellular coverage depending on your provider. "We stayed here August-January. I did enjoyed staying here, however, I took 2 stars for the fact that we could BARELY get our camper in and out of the waterfront site," reports Heather, who experienced both connectivity and accessibility challenges.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Look for campgrounds with organized social events during your stay. Treasure Coast RV Park offers regular activities for campers. Whit J. notes, "Pool, pond, bingo, ice cream night, free breakfast Tuesdays and Friday night band by the pool (huge heated pool)."

Swimming options: Silver Palms RV Resort provides recreational swimming options for families. "Great amenities! Awesome and super helpful staff. People that fulltime there are very nice," shares Chad N.

Space requirements: Family campers should reserve sites with adequate room for equipment and outdoor gathering space. Logan at Waters Edge Motor Coach mentions, "This park is the nicest campground in Okeechobee its very clean and well taken care of and the spot are nice and big."

Tips from RVers

Entrance logistics: Some RV sites near Okeechobee have challenging access roads or entrances. Stuart K. notes about Treasure Coast RV Park: "Despite the first impressions you might have of the place given the war-torn side street you'll have to take north to access this location and the obfuscated sign that likely will have you drive right by the entrance."

Site selection: When booking at Encore Sunshine Travel, consider potential shade and road noise. "The campground was clean. Our site had pavers that were in disrepair and could be a tripping hazard. The sites were roomy for our 42' 5th wheel," reports Douglas T.

Seasonal pricing: RV accommodation costs vary significantly by season, with January through March commanding premium rates. Jamie from Waters Edge Motor Coach & RV Resort simply stated, "Nice paved sites with plenty of room. Owner is super nice."
