Delaware Motel and RV Park offers year-round RV camping directly in New Castle, Delaware with basic electric hookups for motorhomes. Within a 30-mile radius, several top-rated RV campgrounds provide more substantial options, including Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina in Abingdon, Maryland, which features 91 sites with full hookups including 30/50 amp service, water, and sewer connections. This waterfront RV park accommodates big rigs and provides amenities like propane fill service and laundry facilities. Lums Pond State Park Campground in Delaware offers concrete pads with full hookup sites that were recently renovated. Sites are spacious enough for larger RVs, though some maneuvering may be required. As one RVer noted, "Sites were level, covered in clean gravel, had a concrete patio with picnic table and Adirondack chairs, and a nice fire ring. The site was big enough for our motor home."

Cell service varies significantly between RV parks in the region, with Verizon typically providing the strongest coverage at most locations. Many campgrounds require advance reservations, particularly during peak seasons from April through October. Dump stations are available at most parks, though quality and accessibility differ - Bar Harbor RV Park provides on-site sewer hookups while some state parks have more basic facilities. Pet-friendly policies are common throughout the area's RV campgrounds, though specific restrictions may apply. Navigation to some parks requires driving through residential areas, which can present challenges for larger motorhomes and fifth wheels. Winter camping options are limited primarily to Delaware Motel and RV Park and Village Scene Park in Hatfield, PA, both of which remain open year-round with varying levels of amenities and hookup options.

      Belleplain State Forest

      Quiet, Clean and Friendly

We stayed at the group site campground with our horse.  We found the sites to be large, and  clean.  The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have fall activities for the family, at the lake and nature hikes.  The porta potty's are very clean, have hand sanitizer and plenty of paper.   Will be returning again in a few weeks.  Plenty of trails to ride on.  A true gem in our own backyard.

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

Atsion Family Camp — Wharton State Forest

      Pine Barrens New Jersey

This campground is part of the Wharton State Forest and has several campgrounds in the area. Great wooded sites right on a lake. Pretty good separation between sites with good tree separation between sites. Some road noise not overly affecting site.

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

      Country Acres Campground

      Excellent But.

The campground is in excellent condition. The facilities are top notch. The excellence and care of the campground is evident. The 4 stars is only due to the road noise and many of the sites are on top of each other. You feel like your neighbor is at your camp fire.

Don’t go unless you want harassment

My check in was for 8-6-2026, and bc I’m a new driver and wanted to beat traffic I got there early (7am) so I sit there waiting till check in time. When suddenly the park police show up. He’s accusing me of camping over night there. I told him simply I wasn’t and where I was night prior (would never sleep somewhere without permission). So we go to the store to kill time before we check in. Come back for Check in and the whole staff in just the office alone were so arrogant and cold to my mom and I, leaving rude comments to us and not only where they like that but the staff outside the office was acting like that alongside the rangers and park police. They would watch us the whole visit in the distance parking there cars a little ways watching everything we did, even driving by slowly a bunch of times in just an hour alone. My mom and I couldn’t do anything with out them showing up 2 mins later. Example we were walking our dog enjoying our time(trying to) and all of a sudden one of the office ladies pulls up right in front of us speeding, parks their car, gets out and walks a distance from us standing there and taking pictures of us…. For walking our dog who’s on a leash and didn’t even do anything. The whole trip we felt uncomfortable and unwanted and to find out they police when we were going on walks where coming up to campers near us bribing them with free firewood to get any information on use (told to us by other camper). I paid a lot of money to be harassed and followed the whole time. We never did anything we abide by every rule and keep to ourselves everywhere we go. They even made my mother cry…

      Lums Pond State Park Campground

      Lums Pond campground

First time at this campground really like it a lot will be returning. The bathrooms are always clean. The grounds are always kept up. Just a really nice place to stay. Most of the sites have some kind of shade.

Quiet Getaway close to home for us

Mary & her crew run a great campground. Full hookup. Slow schedule during the week-camp store & pool mainly. Saturdays always have activities planned from bingo to quarter auctions, picnics & music. Each Saturday is different. Clean grounds. Nice playgrounds. Kiddie pool & nice size pool from 3-5’ deep. 2 cabins also available.

    Guide to New Castle

RV camping near New Castle, Delaware offers both year-round and seasonal options within a 30-mile radius. The region features a mix of private and state park campgrounds with full hookup sites ranging from basic electric-only options to complete amenities. New Castle sits along the Delaware River, with most nearby campgrounds positioned around waterways or ponds, providing water recreation opportunities during the warmer months from April through October.

    What to do

Kayaking and fishing at Lums Pond: Access 200 acres of pond water at Lums Pond State Park Campground, where electric motors only are permitted. The park offers a 7-mile hiking trail and 8-mile multi-purpose trail around the pond. "We took her older cousins to the fishing pier, and we didn't even get a nibble, but I think it was too cold for panfish that close to shore," notes one camper about early season fishing conditions.

Tubing on the river: At Thousand Trails Circle M, the campground sits in the center of a horseshoe curve of the river. "The campground sits in the center of a horseshoe curve of the river, bring tubes and kayaks! We didn't know but went and bought a tube and spent the day on the river!" Riverside sites are available but can get muddy during rainy periods.

Miniature golf and arcade games: Many campgrounds in the region offer family recreation facilities. Spring Gulch Resort Campground has a miniature golf course, though some reviewers note it "could use some upkeep." The resort also offers sports equipment: "Lots of sports gear available for free to use within park, has to be returned by 5 when main office closes."

    What campers like

Concrete pads and spacious sites: The renovated sites at Lums Pond State Park provide solid foundations for RVs of all sizes. "Sites are big and all were redone in the last few years with concrete pads, 30 amp service and full sewer," notes a regular visitor. Another camper adds, "In February, about 1/4 of the sites were occupied. It was very quiet. The sites are large and well spaced."

Indoor and outdoor pools: For year-round swimming, Lake-In-Wood Campground provides both indoor and outdoor pool options. "Great pools and classes (water aerobics was fun for everyone)," mentions one visitor. Facilities at many campgrounds are seasonal, with most outdoor pools operating from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Waterfront camping: Direct water access from your site is available at multiple locations. Bar Harbor RV Park positions many sites right at the water's edge. "Some sites you are right on the waters edge. Bathroom was clean, pool was closed...not too many campers but it sure was a nice time," reports one off-season visitor who enjoyed kayaking directly from their site.

    What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds in the region operate April through November, with limited winter options. Village Scene Park in Hatfield, PA remains open year-round and offers electric hookups. "We've stayed here a couple times in past... This visit we stayed six months may to October," explains one long-term camper.

Varied cell service: Connectivity varies significantly by location. Sun Valley Campground reports: "No internet. 2 bars LTE on T-Mobile." Most campgrounds near Interstate 95 have better cellular reception than those in more rural settings west of New Castle.

Reservation requirements: Campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. For Lums Pond State Park: "Book early because it fills up fast!" Weekend reservations should be made 2-3 months in advance for summer stays, while shoulder season (April-May, September-October) may allow for more last-minute bookings.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Select campgrounds with recently updated play areas for younger children. "Our kids love all the activities to do!!" notes a family at Thousand Trails Circle M. Another campground, Mays Landing Resort, received this feedback: "The playground was great my daughter really enjoyed the scavenger hunt."

Special events and activities: Weekend programming is common at larger resorts. "This campground was very nice. They had a live band one evening. Activities though the day were fun," reports a camper at Spring Gulch Resort. Halloween events are particularly popular, with one visitor to Mays Landing Resort noting: "Halloween decorations were the best. The playground was great my daughter really enjoyed the scavenger hunt."

Swimming options: Indoor pools extend the swimming season at select locations. Lake-In-Wood Campground has "indoor and outdoor pool." At Sun Valley Campground, a visitor highlighted the "Great swimming pool, immaculately clean bathrooms and showers" as features that made their stay enjoyable enough to extend it.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region have uneven terrain. "Sites were nice size and orderly. Sites next to us had a pipe break, they had a maintenance crew come out immediately and fix it," notes a camper at Spring Gulch Resort. At Mays Landing Resort, a camper reported: "Site are very unleveled so the staff switched us to a pull thru space that was a bit more level but still very unleveled."

Maneuvering considerations: Some parks have tight access roads. Village Scene Park sits "in the middle of an otherwise sprawling suburban area" where "you'll be driving down tree-lined, shady streets one moment and the very next, you'll happen across this unusual spot." This can create challenges for larger motorhomes.

RV size limitations: While Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina accommodates big rigs, access requires caution: "You have to drive through a residential neighborhood to reach Bar Harbor, so big rigs take care/caution." The park does offer waterfront sites, with a camper noting "many sites are on the water" despite the somewhat confined layout.
