RangerThis is a well maintained campgrounds with great friendly staff. The San Juan River and small lake are on property. We are in spot #40 a large pull through with electric and water only. Dump station available on property too, most spots are full service. Dog friendly and great paths around lake in which to walk your dog. Wifi throughout park and I have two bars of cell service with Verizon.
TravelerWe lucked on a pull through spot without reservations, very friendly office crew drove us to the spot. Full hookups & Wi-Fi. Right on the river with benches spread out to enjoy the scenery. Small little pond people were fishing not many catching. The sites are pretty close together but do come with picnic table and fire ring. Very close to town fun little place
Guidecampsites are w electric and water and sewer hookup. also a dump station. picnic table and firepit. lots of room for big rigs. nice showers/toilets and a big sink outside to do dishes. short drive to NP. pass on restaurant.
TravelerAfter crossing the bridge there are 4 sites, 2 on the left 2 on the right. Left 2 sites are blocked by fallen trees but can be crawled over with the right rig. First campsite on the right is the best one. Several fire pits, river access and wide area for big rigs. Enjoy!
LegendThis is an interesting spot to stay the night. It is right on the river and there are 1-5 sites with a playground, bathrooms, bbq pit, and a dump station. I'm not sure who takes care of this park but they have done a great job!
It is not pet friendly so keep them on a leash and walk them off property.
It is a free site but you can only stay 1 night max. It is not for tents but it will fit RV's and campervans just fine. Maximum RV length is 35 feet.
The best thing about this site is that it is within walking distance of Three Barrel Brewing Company! Excellent beer and a legit pizza oven!
RangerThis is my type of park. Located in a beautiful valley giving away to peaceful nights. At an altitude of 8100 feet I enjoyed pleasant days 76° and cool night 56°. Pet friendly park with WiFi and good Verizon cell service. Restrooms are still closed due to Covid 19. Took a day trip to Great Sand Dunes. Pass Port American card got me 50% off one night.
TravelerOne of few places to camp close to Great Sand Dunes NP in winter months. Electric sites with semi-covered picnic table and fire pits. I think toliet were closed for the season but didn’t try. Colorado hunting/fishing license required for sites
LegendThe Alamosa KOA was chosen by our family because we like to have the option for swimming at the end of a hard day of play in the National Parks. We made our reservation for our site in March, a mere three months before our mid-week, June 7 arrival.
This KOA has a nice sized heated, outdoor pool with reasonable hours, closing around 8:00 PM. The pool temperature was warm enough for even the adults to slip right into it. There is also a fantastic playground with updated equipment, including an elevated tunnel system that ends with safety slides. When you have a small child who loves to play, especially a special needs child, this is a big deal! Other amenities include showers and laundry facilities (we did not use either but they looked nice). Wi-Fi is advertised, and the signal is available, but was not even fast or reliable enough to load photos from Instagram or Twitter. Streaming would be out of the question, but it would probably suffice for checking email.
One of the more unique benefits offered at this KOA include on-site Hunt Brothers Pizza and breadsticks. Not only can you get hot, fresh pizza here, made to order, but they will deliver it to your site! In addition, they deliver wood and ice. This site also offers a weekend pancake breakfast (seasonal).
The RV sites were leveled very well, and they have both 30-amp and 50-amp sites available. There are small shade trees scattered throughout the camping area, but they are still quite young and small. I read some previous reviews that felt the sites were too close together. Although there was little privacy, we have certainly had less room between sites than we had in Alamosa. Perhaps with slide-outs it might be more compact, but our little Starcraft fit in just fine. In addition to RV sites, there are tent sites and camping cabins available.
Our take-away from Alamosa KOA: The view from the campsite and the kindness and helpfulness of the hosts, the Martin family, make this a return-trip campground for sure! Any questions for us about this site? Leave them in the comments below!
ScoutBeautiful spot, shared with one other truck a few spots away. Clean enough portapotty. Fire rings and picnic tables at every spot. Gravel road from both directions is choppy but ok. Can only go up to 30mph without bouncing too much. Worth it. Tent and pull through spots. No cell service.
