BLM Mt. Blanca Rd. Dispersed

Pro: beautiful views... skies for days, at night the stars are bright and you can see city lights across the way, pretty quiet on the weekdays, right off the main road, 2 bars of Verizon, clean campsites

Con: the road coming in is washboard so have to go pretty slow, the higher you go the road turns into rocks. Our 2wd van did fine but last that we only saw 4x4 coming up. It gets pretty busy on the weekends but mostly towards the front. The higher you go the less cars! There is also some cactus here and there so keep an eye on your pets.

Overall, we've really enjoyed our stay here and appreciate the beautiful views!

Accessible to really any car that can travel on gravel roads, right off of 150/BLM access road. Close to sand dunes, a lot of people so find a spot early. Great weather and great views.

We set up the first night with a fire and quiet evening as we had plans to visit the park the next day. After hiking the park we ended up back here again for a fire and time for campfire fresh bread. It is a great spot with hiking and the park close by.

Decently close to the dunes. Beautiful mountain and sunset views! Easy road to get into camp. Tons of spots. Road definitely gets ruffer the further you go. We stayed about a mile or so in from the main entrance. Got our 36ft RV in with ease. I'd stay again for sure!

Subaru Impreza didn’t bottom out (that’s saying something). Easy road! Beautiful sunset and sunrise. Not sketchy, but pretty popular place even late October.

we arrived after dark and there were still plenty of spots. it was easy to find and the roads were in good conditions. this place had a lot of campers but the sites were very spread out. most sites had a fire pit and there was plenty of tumbleweeds to help start fires. we stayed here 2 nights when we were exploring the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve and it was around 15 minutes away.

We have been all over the states and this spot has won top place! The sunset alone was amazing. Bugs are the worst here than anywhere I’ve been so lots of bug spray! Cactuses everywhere too so wear your shoes. No one was around us and it was like peace on earth

Convenient location about 25 minutes from Great Sand Dunes NP. Several large sites at lower elevation, flat and large enough for an RV or two. Road is graded through the lower portion. As you get higher, the road gets rockier and narrower with some washouts. If you don’t have high clearance scout it out before attempting. Lower sites are very open but decent space between locations. The higher you go the better the sites with some piñon and good spacing. Would definitely return.

Was able to find a really nice open spot with amazing views of the mountains. Was big and spacious enough for me and my friend to camp in our vans. No one around for miles!

Quick and easy to find. Area was easily accessible. A great option for those on a budget and attempting to avoid paying fees for one night stays. Nice views of the valley and mountain behind. Sites were not the most level going up the mountainside and a bit rocky. Would stay there again!

This campsite is very popular, I would definitely recommend arriving early morning time to secure a spot. We got in fairly late in the night from Texas and had to drive in a ways. Many people left early in the morning so sites opened up fairly quickly. The road is graded and then turns into a rocky road that is manageable in a crossover for a ways then high clearance will be needed. There was a small flooded portion that is next to the helipad but we just drove up onto the helipad to get around it as to not risk getting stuck. There are plenty of sites available and even a circle drive in the front of the road if you don’t feel like venturing in during the night. There are A TON of flies! Lots of bug spray and loose clothing to avoid those pesky biting flies. We had a beautiful view of the mountain and Great Sand dunes is a short 20 minutes away. Our pups loved the large open spaces but beware of cacti and tiny burrs.

We ended up here by mistake, thinking we were at the Sacred White shell BLM. Glad we did though. Great views of The Twin Peaks and Blanca Peak. Lots of flat open space down low. We stopped as the road steepened and set up in a big spot that was close to the road. No complaints considering we got here an hour before dark. Views for miles here!

Several spots on this dirt road. The first ones are quite flat, then it's more complicated. It's close to the dirt road but there are not many people that use it

This place is awesome for a free campsite, free for 14 days, no hookup but as long you have generator and you can fill up your tanks its great. We hardly use the generator because its gets cooler specially at night. Highly recommended !

I saw constellations that I had only heard about. Our next door neighbors were dumb and loud, and didn’t know where to point their flashlights. I think I preferred the cows. Watch your step! Lots of cacti. Lots of space which is good, because lots of people seemed to know about it. Kind of designated spots for fire pits but seemed like they were camper made so I didn’t fully trust it. Always check the laws before lighting a fire, and PLEASE: if you want to light it, be prepared to fight it. or however the saying goes. It dipped down to upper forties so bring an extra blanket. And it was windy af. Also! The road was definitely difficult, so big rigs were down a lot farther than the tenters and the boondockers with SUVs. I have an SUV, so I made it up the mountain pretty far, and if you can safely do it in your own, that’s what I recommend doing. Less people
