Great Site Great View

Easy drive up 160 from Pagosa. Pitched the tent in the afternoon and headed to town for a soak.

Room for a couple cars and several tents. Not PERFECTLY flat for the tent-folk.

View is killer - we hit it at about peak color.

Great views

Nice area, seems like 3+ camping areas, I stayed here for about 4 days. Some fire pits and good views on the drive up. Road was not busy. Verizon signal was spotty. Most of the time I did not have any signal.

Great spots close to Pagosa Springs

There are several pullouts along this 3 mile road. Room enough for our T@B trailer. Amazing views of the sunrise on nearby peaks.

Quiet space

Nice free spot to pull off of the road. Climb a gravel hill (doable in my 23ft class b) to get to a 5 or so dispersed spots. Some have a view others have trails.

Lovely sites close to Pagosa Springs

Lovely secluded sites. Road is in great condition. There are prob 4-6 great sites and a few more “turn out” type sites that could work in a pinch. Great views of the valley and mountains from several of the sites. We stayed here for two nights in two different sites and would def come back. The road is short and these are easy to get to. If you have more time and want to be near the river, look at the Del Norte dispersed area on East Fork Road. We also spent a night out there and much preferred being near the river however it IS a rougher road and takes a bit more time to reach.

Popular dispersed road camping

We didn’t drive too far in as there were a few decent dispersed pull outs within the first mile. Since all the established campgrounds and some of the forest service roads are still closed as of Apr 29 (why!?) there were several others looking for a spot. We snagged one that was reasonably level for our van. Had two people stop and ask if we were going to stay overnight as we were setting up. Very pleasant night, low 30s. No traffic until morning.

Limited space

I had a quick stay here one night. There was 2 camping spots but I pulled off and slept in my car. Very secluded. Next day I headed to rainbow falls, which has a hot spring. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful Scenery but at a Slope

A long dirt road takes you winding up switchbacks into a beautiful mountain scenery. I managed to get through alright in a newer model Honda Civic Sport, but wouldn't suggest it if there was any snow on the ground.

In some of the pull offs into the designated sites you may or will need a 4x4 to access. I had no service (AT&T), there are no water sources that I saw and of course no bathrooms or electrical plug ins here.

This entire area is at a slope, so you'd be hard pressed to find somewhere flat to set up your tent if you have one. This area would probably be better for hammocks, and for that reason I am deducting one star because the area is quite beautiful.

Great spot

Stayed here over 4th of July weekend and managed to grab this spot, which felt very lucky. There is really only one other spot on this road (shortly before the marked one here) and then the end of the road has a wide turn around which we saw someone use to camp with a pop up trailer. The site that’s marked here is really beautiful with a great view across to a meadow on a neighboring mountain. Lots of cows who made a good amount of noise but we didn’t mind. Stayed in a tent.

Great views - car camping

Great spot right off the road! This spot had plenty of space to park our car (a small RV would fit too). Great views and some shade.

Best of all the dispersed camps sites in our opinion.

Perfect seclusion

We grabbed a spot with a fire pit even though no fires are allowed right now. So quiet! No cows for us! Great place to camp when so many of the campsites we tried were closed already! We love free camping!!!

Great wild spot with some noisy neighbors

Dirt road off the highway into the San Juan National First. 4 designated campsites along the road with fire pits. Road dead ends after about 3 miles. Great views across the river gorge to a meadow on the opposite side of the valley. Our site had a pull through driveway of sorts with enough room by the fire pit for a tent or 2. No service (Verizon). Site was made unique by the herd of cattle that roamed the road and surrounding meadows. Kind of cool until they started mooing incessantly at 6am
