TravelerThe campground had plenty of space for large rig, and the camp store had a good array of supplies in addition to being one of the few places to get sand sleds. Only complaint was there was not a lot of bathrooms, and there was a decently long line at sundown for showers.
ScoutThis is a great campground. The hosts are very friendly. I was lead via golf cart to my spot. Although there are a lot of spots, it doesn't feel like your neighbor is on top of you. It is very clean, and there's lots of grass, so it doesn't feel sterile. The cabins are very cute from the outside and they match the office and other buildings. The location is easy to find. It's about a mile North off of 160, and there's a good size gas station right at the intersection. There's a potluck tonight, too.
RangerStaff were amazing! So friendly. Breakfast on weekend was delicious and they even had GF waffles! Fun coffee kiosk too. We stayed at the bunkhouse which was a nice break from tent and camper life while we visited the sites nearby. Kids loved all the toys and peddle bikes.
Traveler2 1/2 miles into town and makes for a good bike ride. Bathroom, showers and laundry facilities are clean and well maintained. So helpful and contacting at the front desk and cute little store. A reasonable price and good location.
TravelerThis is our second time camping at The Hooper Pool (SandDunesPool.com). The first time we were in a C class in the boondocking area this time, we have a travel trailer with 30 amp & fresh water hooks. Water is the same hot water used to fill the pools, so it’s a little odd at first. Black water has to go to the dump site about 100 yards away. There are 10 RV sites with hooks, 3 rustic cabins, a lodge house, and an unimproved area that has RV pull through sites and tent pads. The unimproved areas are subject to high winds whereas the others are inside a wind break which works very well. Dogs are welcome in the camping areas but not in the pools. There are several pools filled with fish and frogs, but fishing (& frogging) aren’t allowed. We really like this site and plan to return at some point. Majestic views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and the San Luis Valley. The night sky is amazing but the RV sites with hook ups have two parking lot type lights with white lights that stay in all night. Not sure if that’s a new development or if it has always been that way. Coin operated laundry and showers on site or pay for admission to The Greenhouse (21+) Pool and use the showers there.
