Elephant seals and sunsets

This is a great stop if you want to spend some time with the elephant seals without the crowds of Big Sur.

No go

National forest is closed Gated off There is a sign there that states no car camping

Plans change when Big Sur is on fire

We got here on a Friday around 11am for a walk in site and the campground was packed. Luckily the campground hosts were very nice and had placed us in the overflow campsites. Which was just a small open area with another group already set up there. The next day they gave us a walk in campsite so we could have a campfire. However it was next to the restroom and the wind brought the smell to our site. The host did keep the toilets clean though. Lots of mosquitos around as well.

Tide spots but...

Like I said tide spots between the rigs. But have good infrastructure with pool, spa, laundry, club house. Require kind carpet or artificial grass because the paviment is dirt. Good location and nice staff. Full hookup and spot to big rigs.

Good but lot noise....

Rangers drive big trucks and tractors several times a day. Make the place little noise. Dry camping, some spots with water and electricity. Hot showers pay with tokens careful the showers are really hot. Clean free restroom and nice trail to the beach. Overall is good.

Wildlife abound

Very easy to drive to. Paved all the way. Individual fire rings and picnic table at each site. Very clean.

Beautiful

Beautiful out-of-the-way park halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Lots of green space lots of room for kids to play full hook ups available .bathrooms are neat and clean. There is a nice free museum. It’s a county park reasonable rates $25 a night. Unfortunately it’s closed till 2021 due to COVID-19.

Bikepacking Resting Grounds

A cute little spot along US1 to rest during my Bikepacking trip in March. There’s not many options for water, which made for an awkward shower at spigot. Campsites seemed to be spread out though everyone can be seen throughout most of the park. Felt safe and well rested.

Bring your ATV join

Turkey Flat is a great place for groups to camp and drink beer around a fire. Wake up and fire up those off - road vehicles and maybe take a gun out to where they hunt turkeys or wild boar. It’s pretty removed from and residential developments so noise is no problem! 2 Vault toilets, picnic tables, no water, 20$ overnite/10$ day use, first come first served

Camping, Fishing, Boating, and Riding Horses at Santa Margarita Lake

Santa Margarita Lake is a lovely, quiet medium size lake used for drinking water in San Luis Obispo County, Los Padres National Forest. There are 60 campsites; 54 tent/RV, 2 Boat-in and 4 horse camps. There is a playground and a pool available in summer as swimming in the lake is not allowed. Canoe/boat rentals are available as well as a launch ramp and marina store. This lake is popular with smaller fishing and recreational boats. Amenities include flush toilets in main camp, picnic table, fire pits but no hook ups. Reservations are online except for horse camps which require a phone call to County Parks 805-788-2387, fees run 38$-36$ per night.
