Alder Creek Pullover

A roadside pullover along Highway 1, Alder Creek Pullover sits on a scenic stretch of California's coast near Lucia. The spot provides views but comes with enforcement uncertainty—one camper reported being asked to leave by local law enforcement despite no posted overnight parking restrictions. The officer allowed them to finish their meal before moving on.

Self-contained camping in regular vehicles may face less scrutiny than obvious tent setups. Campers arriving after dark and departing early without setting up camp equipment might avoid attention. The pullover lacks facilities and serves primarily as an emergency overnight option for travelers along the coastal route. San Martin Top Dispersed — Los Padres NF offers a more established alternative just over a mile north for those seeking confirmed overnight parking.

Maybe ok for self contained one night stays

We pulled in around 6:00 after driving around for a while looking for a spot. Beautiful spot. However, while making food outside our truck a cop pulled up and said we couldn’t spend the night. He was super nice and said we could finish up our meal. We had set up a truck bed tent so we were technically self contained. So that may have something to do with it. If you are sleeping in a normal passenger vehicle or contained in a car it may be fine. As long as you are completely self contained. I wouldn’t think it was an issue if you drove in at dark and left first thing in the morning and didn’t “set up camp.” There are no signs prohibiting overnight parking.
