This Highway 1 pullout offers spectacular ocean views and legal overnight parking where most coastal spots prohibit camping. Visitors often highlighted the spacious flat area and peaceful nights, though safety concerns exist due to cliff proximity and no on-site facilities are available.

Gorgeous View

This place was perfect for us. We are self-contained in a travel bus so we didn’t have to worry about using the bathroom anywhere. The view was absolutely spectacular! We got up on our roof and watched the sunset over the waves! We weren’t bothered by the traffic noise, though it was a Tuesday night in March. We always carry earplugs anyway. It’s definitely close to the freeway, but you cannot beat the view!

If you don’t have your own bathroom facility, it might not be a great place to be because there’s no privacy. Also no cell service whatsoever. Which was actually kind of nice!

Good spot!

Quiet, not much going on, it's just a turnout. One other van staying there, not space for many more.

Just a rest stop

Great views but right off the road. Not much space to park or camp.

Too close from the road

This camping spot is so close from the busy road that we decided to find another one. It can be a good alternate spot and the view is really nice though.

Ragged Point PullOff

Great for a one night stay. The view is absolutely spectacular! There’s space for a tent and a few cars here but not much else. Very close to ragged point gas station.

Overall the night wasn’t too bad once traffic died down. Lots of road noise during the evening and early night.

Perfect for overnight

I got there around 5pm and there was 1 camper trying to repair something. Then around 8pm another car pulled in. I slept in my car with my dog, the place was quiet and has an area to the right where you could put a tent. Beautiful views.

Amazing Free Camping!

Great lay off with space for tents! The view is amazing! Just past the gas station at rugged point if you are driving south! Gas at the station is very expensive! No cell reception until you get to the Elephant Seals.

Convienent spot!

Convenient location! Also much less road noise than we expected! Got in around 9:30pm & left just after 7am. Super easy. Only had one other camper van there & they pulled up after us.

Nice pull off!

This is a great place to sleep along the one. Quite a few of the counties have no overnight parking or camping signs along the pull outs so this is one of the few nice and legal places to go it! There’s also a cute little breakfast place close by for the morning!

The views!

This is a great pull off on Hwy 1! It’s one of the few without a no camping sign, so we were not alone but it had plenty of space for three other car campers! The views are unreal!

Best view of all the pull offs, quite a steep drop off off of viewing area, so be mindful of children and dogs.

Cliffside "Camping"

This is not necessarily a campsite but it is a oversized pullout on Hwy 1 on Forest Service land so there are NO "No parking signs". We spent the afternoon, night and following morning here.

You'll have panoramic views of the ocean from the top of this cliffside pullout. You can hear the ocean all night. It is right on Hwy 1 but the car noise stops at night. All along hwy 1 are NO CAMPING signs so be aware. This one is an exception and worked out great. The view was amazing!! the sunset was AWESOME!

There is a large, for the most part, flat area that could fit a few vans or a couple of Class C's, and there is an area that appears to have been camped on before, to the right of the area for maybe tents. We were not bothered all night and it was quiet and peaceful. BE AWARE you are on a CLIFF! If you have little ones or pets be careful!

Hwy 1 is closed near Big Sur so perhaps traffic was less than normal. Not sure what it will be like once the road washout is fixed and you get more traffic from the north.

There is zero amenities. Bring your own water and deal with your personal waste accordingly.  Please help keep this area clean so we can continue to enjoy this spot.

Good AT&T service but zero Verizon, T-Mobile was roaming.
