Best Campgrounds near Evansville, WY

Evansville, Wyoming serves as a convenient base for diverse camping experiences along the North Platte River corridor. River's Edge RV and Cabin Resort, located within city limits, offers year-round accommodations with 94 sites for tents, RVs, cabins, and yurts, many positioned along the riverbank. Within a 30-minute drive, campers can access multiple established campgrounds including Casper KOA in Bar Nunn and Beartrap Meadow County Park south of town. The surrounding area balances developed RV parks with more primitive options, particularly in the public lands extending toward Casper Mountain and along the river corridors where fishing access points sometimes permit overnight stays.

Weather conditions vary dramatically by season, with camping possible year-round at some locations but limited primarily to April through September at others. Wind is a persistent factor throughout the region, as noted by one camper: "Not much shade at all, and the wind whips through a lot. I was informed though that's a Wyoming thing anyway." Early September can bring unexpected snow and temperature drops into the 20s, while summer days typically reach the 70s with cool nights. Most developed campgrounds require reservations, particularly during summer weekends. Cell service is generally reliable near town but diminishes quickly in outlying areas and mountain locations. Travelers should maintain at least half a tank of fuel, as gas stations can be widely spaced along highways.

The North Platte River shapes the camping experience throughout the region, providing fishing opportunities and scenic views. Riverside tent sites at River's Edge RV and Cabin Resort receive particular praise for their shade trees and privacy compared to the more open RV sections. According to one visitor: "There were trees for shade and a nice breeze coming over the water. There was a good deal more privacy than the RV sites." Noise considerations vary by location, with some campgrounds experiencing train or highway sounds, while others offer more seclusion. Facilities range from full-hookup RV parks with amenities like laundry and playgrounds to primitive sites with vault toilets. Many campgrounds maintain clean facilities despite their rural settings, with several reviewers specifically noting well-maintained bathrooms and showers.

    Pete's Draw Campground

    Serena escape

Really nice spot situated on the river with an easy loop for access. Road is a little rocky getting in and there are no amenities other than the view.

    Bishops Point Campground

    Unkept & slightly trashy

Campground empty during October, appears it is a busy campground during peak season for boaters and anglers. The sites are unmaintained and in need of some love. There is a lot of trash around the campground, beer cans and bottles along all the roads in the bushes. If you’re walking dogs, be careful of broken glass and old fishing hooks. The views, sky and wildlife here are the reason for the 3 stars. No water, power or dump. Has vault toilets, trash, picnic tables and fire rings. Very peaceful during shoulder season, very low traffic even on the weekends.

    Chalk Bluffs Campground

Beautiful views of North Platte River

Rated a 4 star due to the wash board road. Take your time getting to the camp site, once pass the boat ramp the road is much better. Great dry camping parked on spot #3 with 30’ camper. Only a few people here in October taking advantage of this gem.

    Bucknum Rd BLM Dispersed Camping

    Good for one night

This was a great area to quickly stop overnight, however be very careful and aware of the mud. We got stuck and had to get towed. Saw a great sunrise though!

    Glenrock South Recreation Complex

    Nice and free camping

Our GPS was able to easily guide us here. Unfortunately it’s raining so we haven’t really explored the area but there is a small playground and it looks like maybe a rodeo set up. Each site has a grill set up which you can see in the picture. There’s also a picnic table and there is water available although there’s not a hook up at each site. There’s also a disc golf course set up. It is right next to the interstate so there is interstate noise but it’s not all that bad. Especially since it’s free. There’s lots of nice shade and some areas of sunshine also. The campground seems to be well kept up. Although we have a small rig After we got here, we saw someone with the large rig with a toad. It is now morning and both of us agreed the traffic was not a bother last night at all. There are people that bring their dogs out here to walk them off lead. And the trash cans were full. We would definitely stay here again.

    Canyon Overlook Dispersed

    Not open

Drive out here and the land seems to have become private property and is no longer able to be driven. We had to go ways past it to find somewhere to camp.
