    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Evansville, Wyoming serves as a convenient base for diverse camping experiences along the North Platte River corridor. River's Edge RV and Cabin Resort, located within city limits, offers year-round accommodations with 94 sites for tents, RVs, cabins, and yurts, many positioned along the riverbank. Within a 30-minute drive, campers can access multiple established campgrounds including Casper KOA in Bar Nunn and Beartrap Meadow County Park south of town. The surrounding area balances developed RV parks with more primitive options, particularly in the public lands extending toward Casper Mountain and along the river corridors where fishing access points sometimes permit overnight stays.

Weather conditions vary dramatically by season, with camping possible year-round at some locations but limited primarily to April through September at others. Wind is a persistent factor throughout the region, as noted by one camper: "Not much shade at all, and the wind whips through a lot. I was informed though that's a Wyoming thing anyway." Early September can bring unexpected snow and temperature drops into the 20s, while summer days typically reach the 70s with cool nights. Most developed campgrounds require reservations, particularly during summer weekends. Cell service is generally reliable near town but diminishes quickly in outlying areas and mountain locations. Travelers should maintain at least half a tank of fuel, as gas stations can be widely spaced along highways.

The North Platte River shapes the camping experience throughout the region, providing fishing opportunities and scenic views. Riverside tent sites at River's Edge RV and Cabin Resort receive particular praise for their shade trees and privacy compared to the more open RV sections. According to one visitor: "There were trees for shade and a nice breeze coming over the water. There was a good deal more privacy than the RV sites." Noise considerations vary by location, with some campgrounds experiencing train or highway sounds, while others offer more seclusion. Facilities range from full-hookup RV parks with amenities like laundry and playgrounds to primitive sites with vault toilets. Many campgrounds maintain clean facilities despite their rural settings, with several reviewers specifically noting well-maintained bathrooms and showers.

      Bucknum Rd BLM Dispersed Camping

Just fine for a one-night stop over

Simply a big flat expense shortly off the nearby highway. Ground is Bumpy due to recent rains but not muddy. A few scattered animal carcasses so this may be an area where the local authorities drop off roadkill! Nothing to block the wind and no shade but just fine for one night.

      Bucknum Rd BLM Dispersed Camping

      Peaceful

Not a soul in sight! We had a peaceful quiet evening. The night sky was beautiful! No cacti at our spot and only a few cowpies.

      Rim Campground

Quiet, pull through and back in

Nice distance between sites. Good mixture of pull through and back in sites. Bring your leveling blocks, you’ll need them. Vault toilets are well maintained. Great view from the observation deck.

      Oregon Trail Vacation

Park is away from any traffic and trains. The staff is friendly and dedicated to make your stay comfortable and worry free. Park is big and there is section for tent camping. Sites are close together. There is a small lake and North Platte River. We had an electric power issue and the manager came out evaluated the situation and contacted the maintenance guy and fix the problem right away.

      Ayres Natural Bridge Park

      Beautiful and peaceful!!!

This place was amazing. I came here a few years ago when I lived in Casper and swam and loved the place. I had no idea there was camping, let alone FREE. Amazing caretakers, amazing grounds, AMAZING birding. Up close and personal with cliff swallows. We were all alone after 8pm and had a great time walking and viewing wildlife! Definitely worth the drive out, an oasis in Wyoming.

      Douglas KOA

      Nice KOA

Nice KOA, but as usual, you’re very close to your neighbor. It’s hot, so we had to have electrical hookups. There are many sites, but they parked us RIGHT NEXT to another camper, with many empty ones to choose from.

      Glenrock South Recreation Complex

      Free camping

Large community recreation area with a horse arena, and several paddocks, day use picnic area, and five or six campsites, with concrete pads barbecue grills, and picnic tables. Community vault toilet, dumpster, an potable water. A little bit of a circuitous drive off the highway through the town of Glen Rock. There is a laundromat near the road to the campsite in Glen Rock. Lots of poplar trees near a small stream, so you had shade, but also mosquitoes. Unfortunately, no showers or ground fires, and a bit of a hike to the toilet from the camping area. Stays limited to 5 days. Free, first come first served.

      Riverside Park

      Free camping

Even though there is already a pin here, I'm pinning it with free dispersed camping because it's free, even if you're only dispersed around the parking lot. Free showers, water pump outs, and toilets. I don't know if you can pitch a tent, but the other amenities make it well worth a stop. It is right off the highway and excellent T-Mobile coverage. I was told that during hunting season they put up swing sets so hunters can hang and dress their game. I don't know if that's true, but be forewarned if you're here the fall.

      Riverside Park

      Free camping

This is a lovely City Park in the center of Douglas, Wyoming. You can stay here for up to 2 days in a large gravel parking lot. I don't think you can tent camp on the ground because the ground is watered at night. Free hot showers, free pump outs, free water and free dumpster. Picnic tables and barbecue grills in a lovely grassy area in the park or along the river. I am told that during hunting season, they set up swing sets, so hunters can hang game and dress it in the park. I don't know if this is true or not, but if you're here during hunting season, I wouldn't be surprised.

    Guide to Evansville

Established campgrounds cluster around Evansville, Wyoming, including the well-rated River's Edge RV and Cabin Resort situated alongside the North Platte River. The region includes both developed and rustic camping options with a mix of tent sites, RV parks, cabins, and glamping accommodations. Within a 15-mile radius of Evansville, campers can find popular spots like Casper KOA, Casper East RV Park, and several county park campgrounds on Casper Mountain south of the city. Most established sites offer amenities ranging from basic vault toilets to full hookups with electric, water, and sewer connections.

Seasonal conditions significantly impact camping in this high plains region, with most campgrounds maintaining year-round access while others operate only during summer months. "Open all year, a great rest stop to get out of windy conditions if I-25 is closed," noted one camper about River's Edge RV Park. Proximity to highways makes Evansville campgrounds convenient stopping points for travelers, though traffic and train noise can affect some locations. Most developed campgrounds in the area feature level, gravel sites with varying degrees of shade. Winter camping requires preparation for potentially severe weather, with temperatures frequently dropping below freezing. Reservations are recommended during summer months when fishing and water activities on the North Platte River attract visitors.

Several campgrounds provide direct river access, a feature consistently highlighted in visitor feedback. Sites along the North Platte River are particularly sought after for their water views and recreational opportunities. Tent campers report satisfaction with riverside locations at River's Edge, where sites feature more privacy than the RV areas. One visitor mentioned, "If you have SUV and RTT they have riverside sites that are excellent." Facilities vary considerably between campgrounds, with most RV parks offering clean showers, laundry facilities, and common areas. Casper Mountain campgrounds provide a more rustic experience with basic amenities and cooler temperatures due to their higher elevation.
