Pete's Draw Campground

Pete's Draw Campground sits along the North Platte River on BLM land, offering six first-come, first-served sites at $10 per night. Access requires navigating a rocky road that leads to a simple loop layout, but the drive rewards campers with direct river access and well-maintained facilities.

Each site features a covered picnic table, fire ring, and level tent pad suitable for both tent and RV camping. The vault toilets stay consistently clean with adequate supplies, while a dumpster near the restrooms handles trash service. Site 1 provides the most level ground according to campers, though it sits farthest from the facilities. The river lies below the camping area, accessible via a steep, rough path that fishermen regularly use to reach the water.

The campground operates on a no-pets policy and tends to fill up during peak season, particularly in late September when most sites stay occupied. Cell coverage varies by carrier, with AT&T and Verizon providing strong signals while T-Mobile users may experience slower speeds. Dan M. notes you can "walk down bank for fishing access," making this spot functional for anglers willing to navigate the terrain.

Generator use appears unrestricted, and the dry environment attracts numerous flies and insects, though biting varieties seem minimal. Plan for an overnight stay rather than extended camping unless fishing is your primary focus.

Serena escape

Really nice spot situated on the river with an easy loop for access. Road is a little rocky getting in and there are no amenities other than the view.

Dry, gravel, nice views. Might encounter generator noise.

I stayed here in late September and it was pretty busy, most or all of the sites were taken. I stayed in site 1, which I think is the most level. I was able to get perfectly level without any blocks. The pit toilets are on the other side of the campground from site 1, it's about a two minute walk. They were clean and usable. There is a dumpster by the bathrooms.

It's very dry here, not much green. There are a lot of flies and other bugs but none of them bit me. The river is beautiful but it is a ways down from the campsites. It's kind of a rough path to get down close to it. Several fisherman were doing it though.

I don't think there are any rules about generators, I noticed one camper seemed to be running theirs almost 24 hours a day.

The picnic tables and fire rings are in great shape. Each picnic table has a shade shelter over it.

I had great speeds from AT&T and Verizon here. My T-mobile device roamed onto AT&T and had a great signal but was slow.

There is another campground closer to the main road called Gray Reef Reservoir, I checked that one out too and it is very similar. But I prefer this one (Pete's Draw), mainly due to the site layout.

This is a great campground for an overnight, but you probably wouldn't stay longer unless you love to fish.

A QUICK TRIP OUT OF TOWN

Quiet, not many people this late in the season. Just a little off the path. Very peaceful listening to the river current trickling by. Highly recommend.

Quiet and well maintained campground

I would rate this higher than any dispersed campground. Well maintained campsites with new covered tables and leveled site for tents at each. Pit toilets were very clean with plenty of toilet paper. A hidden gem and a bargain at $10 a night
