    cant wait to go back

I ended up here because I was going to a music festival in the area, and they turned me away because I have a service animal. I wasn't going to do all that work for nothing and just go home, so I decided to look up my nearest campground and it was KOA in Milton. they made me feel welcome. they understood my dilemma. it was a wonderful weekend. lots of amenities and I just absolutely can't wait to go back next year. I'm going to try to make it a couple times. so much fun, just me and my dog. And one last the thing, my fellow campers were more than hospitable and very nice and I appreciate that very much.

    Campsite Was Average at Best

I took my son and one of his friends campjng to Bellvue State Park, however, we did not visit the actual park itself. The camp sites were close to one another, many had almost no privacy from the other campsites. We were at campsite 40, which had a severe incline. Also, if you prefer to hammock camp you may not be able to do so. I was able to find one tree and hook the other side up to my vehicle.

    Crazy Horse Campground

Used to be a great place to camp

Unfortunately, I can no longer say this is a great, affordable place to stay. The weekly rates increased by over $75 a week for the full hookup sites this season.

There was also a link to last years pricing still active until 4/16 that has since been deactivated when I asked to have my pricing adjusted to that amount. Seems deceptive to me, having 2 different prices in 2 different places on their site.  They will not honor the price and told me if I don't like it I can find somewhere else to camp.

Also, they no longer offer kayaks, which was the big draw to the campground.

We may keep our reservation this year, but likely won't be back next season.

    Great place on the river

I’m a tent camper so tucked in the back was great. It’s a bit of a normal RV easy camping almost glamping with the amenities around.

    Fun Oktoberfest celebration, clean park

We arrived after 5pm and were able to find out camp spot easily with the reservation email. Everyone was super friendly and there was a little Oktoberfest celebration going on with some families a few sites down. The bathrooms were alright, and there was a fire pit and picnic table at our site which was great. The walking trails are nice and there’s a volleyball net and little playground too.

    Great Group Sites

Well-kept, fairly secluded campsite with toilets nearby and only a short walk to the lake. I would definitely recommend for larger groups (up to 20)!

Great place full of trees and well kept

This place was the best on our trip so far. We were here for a couple nights. The pool was great (from 3-4 it’s adult swim, so the kids had to get out). The sites were very clean and it’s only about 40 minutes from Milwaukee. They have a ton of things to do for the family like a baseball backstop, sand volleyball, horse shoes, a playground etc.

    Lake Kegonsa State Park

Nice state park near enough to the main road

These sites are separated by plenty of vegetation giving you good privacy. Water and restrooms are nicely distributed. The garbage bin is on the way out of the campground. The office was empty when we arrived. The way to get a site is through their website or calling. We didn’t have enough service for the website so we talked with a helpful agent. We didn’t have much time to explore the campground but we did have a nice walk around the outer loop of sites. This is near the main highway and a nice place to camp.

Nice campground. Cement pads and blacktop roads. Clean shower houses. Train tracks border the campground and train horns are loud. Has sites with views of the Mississippi.

    Well Established Campground

Campground is convenient to Galena and Dubuque. We stayed in site 73, which they call a double. If the campground is full, it would be pretty tight. No negatives I encountered here to mention.

    Lovely Gov’ Dodge

We love to go kayaking here, the lakes are lovely. There are also lots of trails to explore. It can get busy, especially during the summer holidays. The beaches tend to be where the people are most dense. The campgrounds are pretty large but most sites offer good privacy. We stayed at Cox Hollow campground and enjoyed our stay. The stars were glorious. P.S. Bob’s Bitchin BBQ in Dodgeville is banging if you’re looking for a yum treat.

Quiet camping in old growth forest

We stayed for a night while passing through - ended up picking site #58 w/electric. It was next to the restrooms and water fountain, which was convenient. The campground road and sites were a bit curvy and heavily wooded, there's no way Starlink would work in the area we stayed and ATT was limited. I do think the campground has more to offer though; our stay was a short one because of our trip. Overall the night was quiet and enjoyable

    Very nice campground

Campground was clean and quiet. Bathrooms and showers were very nice! It gets very quiet earlier than I expected. My only complaint is that firewood was expensive! But I’d definitely stay again!

    Spacious with train tracks

The tent site that we were at was very specious for my dog to run freely with his long leash. A lot of shade and space for everyone. We stayed right by the bathrooms. Showers have a push button so water pressure and temperature was not very great. The river was a great view and campground was big to walk around. Plenty of people coming through but a quiet neighborhood. Other than the train passing right by us, we enjoyed our time there.

    Lake Kegonsa State Park

    Basic Campground on the Lake

Stopped in for a quick overnight with 3 friends. Site 61 was decently sized. we had a canopy over the picnic table, the REI Wonderland 6-person tent, two SUVs. That left us with room to sit around the fire and barely enough room to play some other frisbee games (Kan Jam and Bottle Bash). Flat space for the tent setup. nice fire ring. It rained a lot of the night, and we didn't have any puddles when morning came.

The park doesn't have too much in the way of hiking, but the available trails were well marked and maintained.

    No complaints, but nothing exceptional.

Cox Hollow - Governor Dodge State Park

    Loud, party vibe

The campsites here are deep with lots of greenery. However we chose this site thinking that it was on the end. The loops curl around so there were campers around us. On the other side was a playground that had children enjoying it all day. While this is great for some, our reactive dog was quite distracted.

Upon arriving at the check in, there is still a couple miles to wind around until the campground, longer to get to twin lakes campground. The road is hilly too. It’s not a problem in our vehicle but it would be tiring on a bicycle. There are showers in the center of our loop. It could be expanded a bit - we had short lines for the restrooms. Water , garbage and recycling are available as well as a dump station.

It was raining when we arrived but we drove around to see the park. We hiked the short distance to Stephen’s Falls and was not impressed. Maybe they need more rain this year but all we saw was a splatter.

We saw folks who kept their kayaks and canoes locked up by the lake. The beach looked nice too. The other end of the park has an equestrian campground. We did see some horses riding the trail around the park.

The vibe here wasn’t for us. Various sites had music playing loud enough for us to hear. Trails from camp would be great. We ended up walking along the narrow road.

    Lake Le-Aqua-Na

Camping with plenty of area to explore

This was an unexpected good find in Illinois. The campground was nice with the standard set up - picnic tables, restrooms, water available. You can follow the road or the trails and make your way to the lake. We didn't go in the lake but we saw people fishing.

The hiking trails were enjoyed often by us. We found one section that had some interesting wildflowers. We paused and turned around when we found the archery area. We suggest keeping an eye on hunting season if you head this way.

We would certainly return in the future.
