    Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Campground

    A Wilderness Riverfront Oasis

The camp has access to nearly 4 miles of wilderness riverfront on a dead end road, and yet just a few miles to the beautiful town of Parsons WV in Tucker County! Home of 19th century tourist towns of Thomas / Davis / and Canaan Valley.

--> The Dryfork and Blackwater Rivers combine nearby, the pedestrian cable suspension bridge to Hendricks is less than half a mile downstream, the Fernow Experimental Forest is just a mile downstream, and the Monongahela national forest and huge unlogged forests are all around! And Brooklyn Heights Rd. is also a waterfall mecca after any decent rains including right here on the property and very nearby.

Hike, camp, swim, fish, bike tube, kayak, canoe, explore, forage, campfires, beach area fires, relax and enjoy!

--> Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Campground includes 35 acres of unlogged wilderness forest with roads, trails and 2100 feet of riverfront on the Dry Fork River.

--> The camp includes 15 camping sites (firepits, slabwood benches, parking, and future picnic tables), 5 primitive shelter cabin sites (10x`12 lofted barn cabins with hasp for your padlock), and a 10 spacious short term RV sites near the river (RV's 30 foot or less recommended).

--> Water spigots are available for general use by the office cabin and provide water from a mountain spring water source and must be considered non-potable - so boil to drink or bring your own water for consumption. Water spigots also on location for RV1 - RV4.

--> Also a couple of electric outlets are available for general use by the office cabin near sector B.

--> Waterfalls, creeks, kayak drop points, swimming, tubing, hiking, fishing, and water recreation abounds.

And the nearby towns of Parsons / Thomas / Davis / and Canaan Valley provide endless entertainment nearby with cafes, breweries, a distillery, music, restaurants and coffee shops, galleries and artwork. Also two state park lodges (Blackwater Falls Lodge, Canaan Valley Lodge), a national wildlife refuge, as well as endless rails to trails hiking trails throughout the county where railroads once ran during the coal and virgin forest harvest days of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. And the main street towns are still here and thriving!

    Overview

Seneca Shadows Campground overlooks Seneca Rocks and is surrounded by mountains on both the east and west. Hiking and nature study at Seneca Rocks are just a couple of the popular activities in the area. The North Fork South Branch Potomac River is nearby, making fishing a popular pastime. Two local caves beckon ambitious explorers, and the 900-foot high Seneca Rocks can be viewed from most campsites.

    Recreation

Rock climbers and hikers adore Seneca Rocks. Both sports will take visitors to the top of the impressive rocky tops with rewarding views of the mountains and valleys beyond. The hiking trail can be accessed across the street from the Seneca Shadows Campground. Seneca Rocks Visitor Center provides a catch-and-release fishing area, viewing platforms, educational displays and a gift shop.

    Natural Features

The campground sits in the river valley within the Monongahela National Forest, which extends over the north central highlands of the state, straddling many of the region's highest peaks. Elevations range from 1,000 to 4,863 feet above sea level. Variations in terrain and precipitation have created one of the most ecologically diverse national forests in the country.

    Nearby Attractions

Campers make Seneca Shadows a convenient base camp while traveling through the Potomac Highlands. Explore the scenic roadways, especially when fall colors are at their peak.

I grow mushrooms and sell them at the Harrisonburg Farmers Market. The camping area is about an acre and is beside the house. Park under a canopy of red cedar trees which are bug resistant so very few mosquitoes. Two fireplaces, first come first serve. No neighbors yet close to Harrisonburg. Free firewood. No curfews. Tent camping and conversion vans only. No RV's.

    Wonderful location, excellent RV Park

    July 10-19, 2020

As my wife and I were discussing my review, I asked her what could we point to to take away from a 5-star rating. Neither of us could think of a single thing.

This campground (RV Resort) is simply beautiful. Wooded, stone borders, stone walls, and stone fire pits at every site, plus full hookup at each site. They cater nicely to big rigs, offering numerous pull-through sites as well as back-in sites, as your need exists. Small rigs down to tent trailers camp here as well. There are only two restroom locations (same with the dumpsters; guests do not leave trash near their sites, guests are expected to take care of their own trash), but they are clean, well cared for, and odor free. Showers are the same.

Most sites are spaced enough to give some feeling of privacy, some are fairly close together. A few sites are nicely secluded for those of us that crave privacy. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, and include a “Camp host” for after hours problems. Because of Virginia restrictions due to the current COVID situation, as of this writing the pool and spacious game room are not open. Check with them if that is a gamechanger for you. Their cavern tour (discounted for guests at the RV park) was lovely. Marked well, lighted, relaxed. Our tour guide, Haley, was a sweetheart, taking time for the two little kids, and still giving the information older people like. Plenty of things to do nearby, including museums, Civil War Battlefields, shopping, and Skyline Drive (fantastic).

This is a quiet campground, with no street lights, and quiet hours from 11PM to 8AM. Definitely not a party campground, which totally endeared this place to us. Roads are gravel and can be a bit steep, 4-wheel drive is helpful.

We thoroughly loved our stay here, and assuming we are back this way, we don’t even plan on looking at other locations to stay. Can not praise this campground (RV Resort) enough.

    Great value

This resort exceeded our expectations. Sites are HUGE. They’re in the woods and up hills and around corners so you really feel like you’re camping, not at an rv resort. The value was great for our 2 month stay here. Peaceful. Saw many animals.

    Great Place

Endless Caverns RV resort is a great place to stay and the location is perfect! There are so many attractions nearby. We stayed over the Labor Day weekend and had a late arrival and Frank was very helpful in leading us to our site.

The campground is very quiet and not lit up like a Christmas tree which is something we prefer. If you’re looking for a great place to stay in the Shenandoah Valley look no further.

    Nice state park

great price, full hook ups, paved roads, family bathroom. This state park offered a lot of nature adventures right in your backyard. Hiking, biking, playground, sight seeing. There’s no shopping in the area (except the grocery store, dollar general and a few boutiques) but there are several parks in the area and great, unique sites. We went in Aug 2017 and the weather was lovely. Our site was full hook up with a backyard and plenty of room to roam and play!

    Very friendly

We were just traveling through on our way south and called to see if we could stay for a night. The campground was being shut down for the season but the owners accommodated us anyway! They let us fill water near their home which is on site and had a full hook up available for us.

Great location right on the water. Near a railroad but during our stay it was not running.

Location is prime!! Loved the RV sites right on the water. Perfect if you are a trout fisherman or hiker. Trail head to Chimney Rock is 2 minutes from camp site and Seneca Rock is about 20 minutes away. Full hook up and trash pick up from your site at on checkout. Local man had firewood for sale up the street as well!

    Excellent camping in Parsons

I really love Five River Campground in Parsons, WV. The owners are amazing! This campground is paved up to the campground. It has 120 RV sites many with full hook-ups. It can accommodate tents to large rigs. It has great cell signal for most carriers and even offers wifi and cable. It is a pretty level area so riding bicycles around the campground and even into town are doable. In August, they have a huge Bluegrass Festival here too! I will definitely be back here again! Only cons were I had to leave and no picnic tables.

    Great little RV campground

Only 10 sites right on the river. Great fishing. Very quiet. Full hookups for RVs including cable. A little pricey for the area. I Would stay here again. Easy access to Dolly Sods, short drive to Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob. Did I mention access to multiple areas for great trout fishing.

Endless Caverns RV Resort & Cottages

    Great Spot

Nestled right up against the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians, this is a great spot with semi- private spaces and full hook ups for RV’s. Check in was smooth with an escort. Resort has a pool on the property, well kept bathrooms, playground, and you can see the pride the staff has in the property and upkeep. There is a cavern tour which was really awesome (and relatively inexpensive), and the local town New Market has some small town shops and restaurants if you feel the need to explore locally. If Endless Caverns aren’t enough, nearby Luray Caverns are pretty close too which is very touristy.

Keep in mind that this campground is on the side of a mountain and it can get steep getting to some of the sites- but they have done a good job with copious amounts of gravel on roadways for traction.

Overall great experience and we’ll be back!

    Five River Campground

Family Friendly & Base for Outdoor Adventures

This was our first trip to Five River Campground, and we loved it! Beautiful spot on the river— only tent camping in a huge field separated us from the water. The interior was more crowded and didn’t have a view; but Joyce helped us pick a beautiful spot when we called for reservation.

Everyone was super friendly and helpful as we learn to set up our new teardrop to the full hook ups. John delivered firewood right to our site, and they texted the hours of the trading post store. Lots of happy, courteous kids and well-behaved dogs on leashes. Our pups loved it, especially swimming! We appreciated the poop bags and trash cans convos fly located around the campground. There are a ton of hikes within 30 minutes, and we checked out Douglas Falls. Next time, we’ll visit Lindy Observation deck and more of Blackwater Falls State Park. Grocery store, gas station and a family dollar all within a 5 min drive or walk.

East Fork Campground and Horse Stables

    Peaceful campground on a river

We thoroughly enjoyed this campground. Very peaceful, surrounded by mountains. The campground had stables and catered to people with horses, but we felt very welcomed by the owners. The campground was very quiet and is actually very near to what is referred to as"The Quiet Zone." Pocahontas County is home to the Green Bank National Radio Astronomy Observatory, a federal complex whose giant single-dish telescope detects"invisible energy waves" from space. Within 10 miles of the Observatory, the use of cell phones, Wi-Fi, microwaves, and other devices is banned.

Most of the sites were full hook-ups and the facilities were very clean and well maintained.

This campground in Durbin was great for exploring the north end of the Greenbrier River Trail, The West Fork Rail Trail, and other sites in the Monongahela National Forest. There isn't much in the town of Durbin except the Durbin Rocket, a century-old train, on which riders can experience a 10 mile, two-hour ride.

    camping for bigger rigs

There are a number of campgrounds in the Smoke Hole Canyon/Seneca Rocks area, but most of them are better suited to smaller rigs and tent campers. If you have a class A or are looking for something with full hookups, look no further. Located in the Smoke Hole Canyon resort area, not far from the caverns, this small campground offers 10 RV sites along the river. Picnic tables and fire rings available. Site are large and level, but close to one another and open. Dark sky and an open field for stargazing. There are cabins nearby, but no tents. No cell phone coverage.

Plenty to do in the immediate area, with the caverns, fishing, hiking, and climbing. Dolly Sods and Canaan Valley are also nearby.

    Season is March to December.

    Wildlife galore!!!

West Virginia is a state for anyone who enjoys the outdoors!!!! There are tons of out door activities! We recently camped 3 nights at Canaan Valley! We had a great time! The campsite was full hookup & very inexpensive!!!! Plenty of trees providing shade! There is a little park for the kids, it could use a little TLC! But we didn't spend much time there. There is a huge field that the kids enjoyed kite flying! The staff at the store/check in are very friendly and helpful with area attractions! There is a ton of wildlife in this state park! Deer galore! Someone saw a black bear on the trail (we did not)! Beautiful birds with tons of color! You have access to the pool at the resort (near the hotel)! The bathrooms are less than desirable, but you're good if you have an RV! There are tons of attractions in WV, you may just have to drive. We went to Smoke Hole Caverns and Seneca Rocks for the day, only a 45 minute drive! Well worth it! We will return! Only took off one star b/c of the playground & bathroom! Happy camping!

    Beautiful Location

My family and I liked this campground a lot. We had a camp site that was right against the river with full hookups. This seemed to be a well laid out campground with sites for weekenders in maybe the best location right along the river and the seasonal campers spread out around. The camp store was nice with everything you need, and the staff and owners were friendly as well. We were there for a long weekend and all agreed we would go back.

    Beautiful

Had a wonderful time. Clean restroom and showers. Pretty level site. But, roads to your sites were extremely steep. We got there the day it rained all morning. Roads were washed out. Our rv was tossed around trying to get to our site. Kinda scary twice. Felt like we were going to topple over! Half hour later, they had trucks there putting in stones where the road had huge holes! Caverns were exquisite!

Stokesville campground is a little rough around the edges but offers access to lots of miles of trails in George Washington National Forest. There is an awesome swimming hole on the North River, Four miles of flow mountain bike trails inside the campground with endless miles of trails just outside. Stokesville is a mountain bike destination that cyclists travel from all around, the the campground is alot of those cyclists gateway to gwnf. The campground has primitive tent sites up in the woods and full hookup pull through sites. A playground for kids and fishing pond.

    Five River Campground

    Nature All Around

As new (to RV) camping with a nuCamp teardrop, we chose this spot for a last minute getaway! I’m so glad we did. About a 2:45 hour drive from Pittsburgh, PA the drive in on a Friday late afternoon helped decompress the pain and heaviness of our current world. So many windy (but safe) country road as we entered the campgrounds. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous pulling in to the site. I thought it would be a bit more secluded from other RVs. Many kids running around and on bikes so I was questioning our decision. However - it was just the right spot!! All of the other campers were so generous to help us navigate backing in our new Teardrop, including John, the owner. He spent plenty of time coaching us to park all the way to the do’s and don’t s of hooking up electric and sewage. His wife Joyce showed us to our space and was so warm and friendly, and helped us secure this spot when we called to ask a few questions before booking. And really, all the other campers were cheering us on when we got the little Teardrop in the best spot!! We backed up to a large field (spot 3) and had a great view of the river! I didn’t feel crowded at all!! Our two dogs swam in the river, we took a hike to Douglas Falls on the Blackwater Canyon trail and really did some necessary healing from the world here. We are grateful. And as two women traveling together, we felt included and welcomed from all the campers and owners and staff. We will go back. This is a beautiful area of our country.

My only complaint is that the sites are so close together. But boy did we love this park! Not terrible unlevel rv spots with water and electric. They have free wifi which works pretty well. An adorable camp store with some toiletries and other essentials like condiments and s'mores supplies. A few stuffed animals, tshirts/hoodies, stickers etc. I had to buy a hoodie since it was so ridiculously soft and normal priced at $39. Wood and ice available also along with a pepsi machine. Attendant was a very nice helpful young man. Actually every single worker there was super friendly and helpful and even had some great conversations. Also available are tent sites and gorgeously remodeled cabins we would love to come back and check out. Lovely nature center with a friendly and very knowledgable lady, some gifts and lots of things to check out including furs, microscopes, videos, a cute turtle and a blue hill fish and crayfish. Picnic area outside and playground as well. The lake was beautiful and the lodge was certainly a sight to see. We even checked out the marina and had lunch in the lodge restaurant. Food was good (like your average pub faire) and service was fantastic. Lodge also had quite the gift shop with the average memorabilia but also some things from local artists like candles, lotions, lip balms and soaps. Also some pottery/glass items. Will definitely return.

    Blackwater Falls State Park Campground

    Nice remote quiet park

We enjoyed our stay. Lot of trails within the park. Most sites had no privacy but we didn't see it as an issue for us. We got lucky and had an almost dead level site but there are some tricky sites there so choose your site carefully. The roads within the campground are narrow and the sites, which are asphalt, are pretty narrow as well, maybe 10'. There was a 5th wheel across the road from us in a drive through that gave up, they just couldn't get level. Don't know where they went. Every morning and evening there were a number of deer roaming through the park. The bath houses are old but clean. Since there was no wi-fi and sad cell service we went to the lodge and use their wi-fi to download some youtube videos to watch a night.  Everyone knows about Blackwater Falls but just outside of Thomas there is a Douglas Falls that's becoming more popular as word spreads.
