Multiple RV campgrounds surround the New Point area of Virginia, offering year-round access with varying hookup options. Grey's Point Camp in Topping provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service open April through mid-November, while Bethpage Camp-Resort in Urbanna maintains similar seasonal availability with big rig friendly sites. Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay operates year-round in Reedville with water, electric, and sewer connections suitable for larger motorhomes. American Heritage RV Park in Williamsburg features 160 sites with concrete pads, full hookups including 30/50-amp service, and ample pull-through spaces. "All of the spaces have concrete pads, full hook-ups, and cable TV. The staff was very friendly and helpful."

Access to these RV parks typically requires minimal navigation challenges, though some sites near water may have tighter turning radiuses. Dump stations are available at all featured parks, with most offering on-site sanitary services at individual sites. Cell service varies throughout the region, with spotty reception reported at parks closer to the Chesapeake Bay. According to one visitor, Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay has "beautiful campground that is well maintained" but limited cell coverage with T-Mobile. Most parks accommodate pets with designated walking areas, and on-site stores stock essentials including firewood and propane at select locations. Fall remains a popular camping season in the region, making advance reservations advisable, particularly for premium pull-through sites that can accommodate larger motorhomes.

      Kiptopeke State Park Campground

      Camping in high winds

This campground was very enjoyable.  I spent a lot of time at the fishing pier, learning to ID birds I had never identified before.  Brown pelicans were everywhere near the sunken ships.  I also talked to the Hawkwatch people for a bit.

My campsite was far enough from the bathroom I couldn't hear the door slam, but since I was the only one in the F loop, that wouldn't have mattered.  Since the loop was so empty, it was an absolute pleasure.

Had the campground been full, I would have felt too close to the people in tents in the sites next to me.

One great thing was that there weren't tent pads so we didn't have to worry about how to fit two tents on to one tent pad.

      Machicomoco State Park Campground

      Beautifully Quiet

Note to Self: No Primitive Site reservations...EVER. I love this park. It's situated far enough from the busy traffic noise...beautiful Virginia city of Hayes. When I arrived, it was such a scorching day and there wasn't nearly enough tree cover to shield my tent from the "son of Hades". Suffered heat exhaustion almost to the point of death...Literally. Night was my only respite. If it hadn't been for the wonderful camp attendants who came to my rescue, it would've been an utterly failed experience. Bless their hearts. Other than that, this was a great training experience for an old Novice camper. Now that I'm a bit more practiced, I'm going back 😁, armed with knowledge and more confidence.

      Machicomoco State Park Campground

      Nice Campground

The good: super clean and new restrooms / showers. The entire parking immaculate. Stayed at site 12. Offers water views and shade. Site 13 is similar and is probably the most ideal site.

Cons: zero privacy. The sites are basically scattered around an open grassy area and fairly close together.

Be aware: sites are not vehicle accessible. Need to carry your kit 50-75 yards.

      Newport News Park

      Beautiful scenery

Our stay is going to be the 21 days that are allowed. In that time, I have been on many nature walks with my dog. Very enjoyable, very well maintained. The only thing I did not like is the bathrooms. I have seen a cleaning lady come through, but I think it is primarily for the sinks and toilets. The shower curtains are moldy, lots of spiders. The shower pressure and temp are great. All in all, it is affordable and very peaceful.

      American Heritage RV Park

      Friendly, Convenient to Colonial Sites

We enjoyed our stay at American Heritage. We were offered a change of our assigned site if we would prefer to be closer to the bath house. We preferred staying where we were until we discovered that the electric hook-up was far enough away on the grass that we couldn't reach. (We have a little Scamp 13 and the plug was just a little too short.) We had a pull-through site(every other row was pull-through).

It had a full hook-up. The cover on the electric post was missing rivets, so we had to put it back in place ourselves, but there was no problem with the electric. We used 30 Amp for the RV and plugged in our backup battery to the 15 amp plug. The water pressure was good and consistent. We've had problems at other RV sites. We used the sewer connection with no problem at the end.

We did not have an umbrella at the picnic table and seriously considered buying a screen tent because we stayed for 4 days and it was HOT. Some sites had more shade. In fact, that's one thing we'd change next time. The pool was wonderful, the showers were clean and we used the laundry with no problems--they take quarters and washing and drying one load cost $5.00.

The staff was very friendly and responsive. Overall, we had a great stay and would stay again.

      Davis Lakes Resort

The Little Canping Gem of Suffolk

We stumbled across Davis Lakes Campground last year when we brought our camper down to visit our son and grandchildren. Originally, we planned to stay closer to Virginia Beach, but after finding Davis Lakes, we decided to give it a try. We were lucky enough to get site F28 right on the lake, and we enjoyed it so much that we came back this year—and even booked the exact same site.

After reading some of the other reviews, I wanted to share our experience because it was very different. Yes, there are some rules regarding dogs at the beach, but they never interfered with our stay. We enjoyed walking our dogs every morning around the campground and lakes, and it was a wonderful way to start each day.

The beach itself was clean, had plenty of nice chairs, and the AquaGlide was an absolute blast. We spent 5–6 hours a day swimming, and surprisingly, the beach never felt crowded.

One thing that really stood out was how fair the prices were. The campground store was stocked with essentials, and unlike many campgrounds, the prices were very reasonable. If you forgot a loaf of bread or wanted to grab a pool float, you didn’t feel like you were being gouged. They also have a cute snack shop, a spacious game room, and an impressive movie selection, making it a great place to spend a rainy afternoon.

The campground itself was clean and very well maintained. Although many of the sites are seasonal, they were neat, well cared for, and nothing like some seasonal campgrounds where sites become cluttered or run down. It was obvious that both the staff and the campers take pride in the campground.

The nightly rates were very reasonable, and while there is a visitor fee, we found it to be completely fair considering the amenities. We had an amazing time with our son and his family, and the campground played a big part in making those memories.

Davis Lakes isn’t a luxury resort, and that’s part of its charm. Its focus is on beautiful lakes, swimming, friendly service, and providing a relaxing camping experience. It reminded me of the kind of campgrounds I grew up enjoying—simple, welcoming, and centered around making great memories.

We’ll absolutely be back. If we lived closer, I’d seriously consider getting a seasonal site myself. In fact, my son is even talking about buying a camper just so he can keep it nearby and enjoy Davis Lakes more often. Many of the employees and seasonal campers are locals who return year after year, and I think that says everything you need to know about this place.

    Guide to New Point

RV camping near New Point, Virginia offers year-round options across the Chesapeake Bay region. The coastal peninsula location creates a moderate climate with average summer temperatures in the mid-80s and winter lows rarely below freezing. Sites within 30 miles of New Point feature a mix of wooded and waterfront locations, with many providing direct access to fishing and water activities in the region's tidal creeks and bays.

    What to do

Crabbing adventures: At Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay, visitors can access dedicated crabbing piers directly from the campground. "We had never been crabbing and this beautiful rv park has its own crabbing pier. There is boating, hiking, watching wild life and so many pretty birds," notes Mike T.

Historic exploration: Military Park Cheatham Annex provides an excellent base for exploring the colonial triangle. "This is an amazing recreational campground for military families and retirees that is located right on the York River between Williamsburg and Yorktown. It is immediately adjacent to the Colonial Parkway for easy access to historic Jamestown as well," reports Janet R.

Water activities: Many campers appreciate beach access at The Colonies RV and Travel Park, which offers both bay and creek views. "The campground is awesome. Beach is a short walk," notes James A., though he adds a practical warning that "there's a club on the beach. So be warned- it's a bit noisy."

    What campers like

Water views: Campers consistently mention the dual water views at several sites. "You can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset. There is a little beach down from our site and our dogs enjoyed their first dip in the bay," shares Jaime W. about The Colonies RV and Travel Park.

Well-maintained sites: American Heritage RV Park receives praise for its concrete pad sites. "The site was perfectly level, clean and well maintained. Nearby facilities were up to date and clean," reports Jason G., who appreciated the organization of this 160-site park.

Family activities: Bethpage Camp-Resort offers extensive water recreation options. "We loved this place! It has everything you need and more! Golf carts, mini golf, ice cream shop, friendly staff, restaurant, water park- amazing, spacious lots, very secluded, splash pad-fun for small children, small beach, kayaking available," describes one enthusiastic family.

    What you should know

Site specifics: Concrete pads are common at larger parks but not universal. "Our site was very nice site#10, a leveled concrete site with room to park our towed vehicle while still attached to our Motor Home. We also had a level concrete patio with a picnic table," notes Mary H. at American Heritage RV Park.

Seasonal considerations: Fall camping requires advance planning due to popularity. "We stayed in Sycamore 09. The site was clean and level. No fire pit or grill, so plan ahead. We went the last weekend the pool was open, which wasn't crowded at all," advises Michael B., who visited Bethpage Camp-Resort in September.

Cell reception variations: Reception strength varies significantly between providers. At Thousand Trails Virginia Landing, visitors should prepare for limited connectivity. "This is a very isolated, make sure you have everything you need, it's a 30 minute drive to the Walmart," warns Sean R.

    Tips for camping with families

Activities planning: Pools are major attractions at several campgrounds. "The pool is incredible for all ages. Employees are super friendly. Multiple kids playgrounds," notes a reviewer at Bethpage Camp-Resort, highlighting the family-friendly amenities.

Space considerations: Virginia Landing's layout allows for kid exploration. "The park is wide-open, which provided plenty of space for kids to roam and explore. Virginia Landing is located right on the shore and we felt perfectly comfortable allowing the kids to freely run around and engage in activities they don't typically (i.e. clamming, kite flying)," shares Jason G.

Transportation options: At several resorts, golf cart rentals help families navigate larger properties. "There are so many activities for kids at this campground. There are waters slides, playgrounds, fishing, water rentals, and campground sponsored fun. What's most noticeable are all of the golf carts. There's a lot of area to cover, so most bring their carts or you can rent one," explains Scott T. about Grey's Point Camp.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup placement: At Little Creek MWR RV Park, hookup locations may require extra equipment. "The connection boxes are set back pretty far on the sites, so you need longer hoses/cords. We had a long electric cord that reached and had to add a second water hose and second section of sewer hose to connect," advises a reviewer in a 25-foot Airstream.

Site selection strategy: At Thousand Trails properties, site selection happens upon arrival. "My first time with Thousand Trails and it's odd that you pick your spot once you get there. They were trying online check in but it didn't work," explains Kristina D., who stayed at Chesapeake Bay.

Road conditions: Access roads vary in quality throughout the region. "Roads are tight," cautions one reviewer about Bethpage Camp-Resort, while another notes about Little Creek MWR that "roads are decrepit with major potholes and in need of repair. The roads and some sites flood when raining."
