SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

The road into this free BLM dispersed site west of Moab sets the tone immediately. It runs through red desert terrain, with stretches prone to standing water, muddy trenches, and erosion after rain. The road is washing out in sections, and a standard 2WD van or sedan may not make it through. Reviewers consistently recommend 4x4 or at minimum AWD with good tires. That said, a flat spot roughly a quarter mile in can be reached by most vehicles, and a secondary spur off the main track gives a car or small SUV another option near a tree.

Once in, the site opens up toward open desert sightlines with rock monuments visible in the distance. As johny R. puts it, there are "beautiful views and some monuments in the distance." The main clearing is large enough to fit a small RV, and campfires are allowed. Cell service is limited. Verizon users report needing to walk around to find one or two bars, with reliable signal only back at the main road.

Rain changes the calculus here significantly. Water collects on the access road quickly, and the route back can flood before conditions improve. Timing a visit around the forecast matters. Nearby dispersed options like Island In the Sky Road BLM Dispersed near Big Flat and Whitbeck Rock BLM Dispersed — Island in the Sky offer comparable free camping if conditions make this road impassable. Come prepared, and this stretch of BLM land rewards the effort.

Visitors often highlighted spacious, flat sites with beautiful views, but access requires 4WD or high clearance due to muddy, washed-out roads. Cell service is limited with only occasional bars available.

4wd road 1 easy big spot

Road is washing out. Got to be to risky for 2wd van. Backed out. No solid verizon signal. If you walked around you might pick up 1 or 2 bars but I had to get back to main road for signal. There is 1 or maybe 2 big spots anyone could get to in just a car, maybe a quater mile down the road. Then a small road goes off across the main road that has a spot by a tree an suv or car could maybe get to. The main big spot pictured could fit a small RV. Beautiful views and some monuments in the distance.

Mildly hardcore off-roading, plateau views of surrounding

This was an experience. Driving to the campsite was mildly intense for the subu outback in x mode and no off-road tires. The road was muddy and had a trench in one side of it, there were stretches where standing water was deep and we drove around. Recommend 4x4 or good tires and AWD! The camp ground was so beautiful, would’ve kept going further but didn’t want to push the vehicle.

It often rains in this area so be wise if you go since the road back is going to be flooded.
